      yeah, Irish Guy said it himself, Potter's rejecting decent job offers, he's probably waiting for England, and he's the natural choice as sort of what, the 2nd best English manager right now? Maybe O'Neil is better. But they wouldn't get Howe so makes sense that they'd go for the best unemployed one. I reckon Potter would be like Southgate with more tactics, and probably also better football, which tbh is what England fans would probably want

      Two words. The media.
      Do you want more clarification? Tabloids, outright made-up stories, pitting players against each other with said stories, the pressure to win trophies at every opportunity despite absolutely no evidence of them being capable of it over the past 60 years except for a home tournament. Not to mention the skepticism you will receive from some branches of the media if you're a foreign coach, but that's a whole other can of worms that I don't want to open. Point being, there are challenges unique to managing this country that are minimal or are non-existent in comparison with other national teams.

      it's also the most scrutinised job in football. It can destroy your reputation and is actually more dangerous the better a manager is perceived. If I were a top-tier manager I would take almost any job that isn't England

    • @williamnicks2148
      @williamnicks2148 Месяц назад +7

      You don't take it with a free hand. A lot of your squad selection is determined by the FA playing favorites and the media demanding overrated and overhyped players be selected, and make sure you punish those players who went foreign by leaving them out (except Kane and Bellingham because they're media darlings). The FA do not want a manager, they want a yes-man who won't criticize them and will follow orders. No serious manager wants that sort of job, they will just decline the job and wait for a suitable club opening.

    • @cherm722
      @cherm722 Месяц назад +6

      @@williamnicks2148 I agree with this heavily. It blows my mind that the likes of James Tavernier, Ryan Kent and Connor Goldson never even got a look in with the England team. I understand England have had an incredible batch of right sided full backs come through over the years, but around the 21/22 season, James Tavernier was statistically one of the best fullbacks in the entirety of the European continent. Not just because he was playing in the Scottish Premiership- he was doing it in European competition too. I'm not even a Rangers fan, but it just blows my mind that foreign players, even if they are slightly up north in Scotland, can't get anywhere near the national setup.

    Bullingham has said he wants an english manager which i find utterly pathetic. We just had one for 8 years and won nothing and yet you got a progressive coach like poch wanting the job but thats too much for his old geezer to handle. Why not let the nation choose rather than some suit and tie who knows nothing about football

    Noone wants international jobs anymore there undesirable. Euro winners spain hired the spain youth coach who was sacked in a few months at alaves in his last job in 2011. Spalleti was semi retired after leaving napoli then took Italy job. Scaloni was picked cause his friendship with Messi who had zero experience, Deschamps was basically the only option for france

    Rooney C? He’s responsible for Birmingham going from a playoff spot to relegation, and was only brought in because of his identity as a player. England would implode under Rooney.

    Ancellotti would not be good. He does well at big clubs cuz he just lets the players do whatever, but anything else and he’s terrible. He was coach at Napoli and the team basically held a coup to get him to leave cuz they wouldn’t be practicing nearly as much as they should
