@@johnwymer1215 Wow! such an original comment. Do you understand people have different takes on characters not only in movies but novels and plays? What's the point of creating stories if we can't do character studies and learn from them?
I love the detail at 2:31 where the camera pans to Roger comforting Maggie, it’s not normal for a kid that age to have the awareness or empathy to do something like that. Al says later in the movie that “we expect great things from you, kid” and we get the sense throughout the movie that Roger was chosen by the angels for a reason beyond just being a foster kid. He’ll become a person who puts others before himself, and he’s genuinely good to his core.
When he says "maybe we will see him again, in court or something" and ahe responds with " God forbid". That was so sweet. She genuinely cared for Miguel, but she never wants to see him in a court again. Roger is such an emotionally intelligent kid.
@@Nate-rl6he I was just about to post the same thing. Younger kids have lots more ambition. JP was so hopeful for Miguel even though he was set in his own reality. I always wondered how old Miguel was. The guy nearly had a mustache but I’ve heard of boys growing full beards at age 12.
I love the foster parent she legit cares about the kids she raises even if they are not the kindest. I will never know what its like being a foster kid i guess that starts when your parents are gone from the world... But dealing with it as a kid is ultra harder than as a grown up
As a kid, I never understood why Maggie didn't want to see Miguel in court like Roger suggested. As an adult, I realized that the reason why Maggie said "God forbid", was because she didn't want to see Miguel in court because it would've most likely been for juvenile detention or prison sentencing as an adult. She really cared them, hoping the kids under her care had a shot at a normal life with loving parents. This movie, while not a commercial success, did something very admirable in portraying how difficult life for children under foster care can be and providing a comforting story for those who have gone through that process.
Funny, it's just about the same for me....I never realized it was the "in court" she was referring to. (I think in addition to the other possibilities, she's hoping Miguel doesn't return to the short-term foster system - maybe Miguel has bounced back and forth because he's such a difficult case.) Actually as a kid I always thought Maggie didn't want to see Miguel at all because Miguel was a jerk 🤣
No it would be because foster cares goal is a temporary home for kids before being placed back with their parents. She is a temporary home, basically when kids are pulled and need a place that night they go to her place while arangments are made to place them in a permanent home. This is usually a few days. Once placed in a home a kid can be sent back to their parents or adopted out if the parent gives up all rights or has them stripped. If he gets placed back with his parents and then they see him in court again it means he is going though the system again. I went though the system a few times growing up.
Exactly. Seeing him again in court would mean he's moving families again or in trouble. Maggie is great and so is Roger. He had a crazy amount of emotional intelligence and attention to others emotional state.
David: Mr. Knox, I wanted to remind you that you are gonna fire me on Friday, aren’t you? Knox: You’re bonded with the boys. David: Bonded? Knox: Yeah, you’re gonna stick around, David. Roger: Yeah, stick around, David. Knox: You got job security. David: Job security? Who knew? 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Roger understanding jp's aversion to cars and how he reacted to Maggie telling him about Miguel shows how ridiculously emotionally mature that kid was. Most 12 year Olds would crumble under that along with growing up in a short term care house.
Jp: thanks for the ride home 😄 Knox: ... he speaks 😳 I always found that part to be funny. That's how everyone reacts when a shy person talks 😆 Also i don't get why JP says that he will miss miguel. I do remember that miguel was honestly a jerk, especially to JP. Then again, JP is just so sweet and innocent, goes to show in how kind he really is. he doesn't hold grudges 🥺
Especially with trying to take away his appetite, particularly for dessert (claiming the JELL-O is really food-colored cat brains) and calling him a name that is not nice, in fact, downright unacceptable, especially to a younger child ("Shut up, butthead!").
His mom didn't get murdered. J.P. got taken away from her due to them living in a car and not in a more suitable living environment after his dad passed away. Same thing with Roger and his dad after his mom passed away. That's why they got placed in a foster home until they got things figured out.
