This maybe more than just a coincidence. But, I see a common thread in each of the iconic statements you mentioned. James Earl Jones’ character is challenging another character into making a serious life-altering decision. Perhaps these statements hit with such great emotional impact because Jones is not only acting this role, he’s reliving it. In an interview Jones once did, he spoke of self-doubt because he had a stuttering problem. A teacher in Jones’ early childhood noticed Jones wrote really good poetry. But, she challenged him, saying, “I don’t believe you wrote this. Prove to me this is your own work by reciting your poem in class without script and without stuttering” He took the teacher up this challenge and delivered his poem flawlessly. The teacher responded with “Now we have something we can work with” Can you imagine what we, the entertainment loving public, would have missed out on had Jones not risen to this challenge? In a singular defining moment, Jones made a decision that would set the course for how he would live the rest of his life. And so it is with the characters he portrays. He’s being that teacher from his childhood all over again and he’s challenging someone else to be more than what they currently are.

In the original book, “Shoeless Joe”, the character who accompanied the narrator to the Red Sox game was J. D. Salinger. He was a recluse and would never be in a movie. But it was a great visual while reading the book.

This is the most iconic speech ever given in baseball history and every word true. So much so it helped give us the game between the Yankees and the Sox at the new field of dreams. ⚾️
Whoever wrote that speech deserves an award as well as our thanks. James Earl Jones' reading of it is every bit as brilliant. I tear up and even cry when he intones "It reminds us of all that once was good, and it could be again", for I am old enough to remember the 1950's and early 60's in both baseball and America. We have lost a lot, but we still have a chance to recover this country and its innocence, as it was during WWII until the killing of JFK.
No, John, we really don't. It's time to stop longing for a past that never was and work toward having a future that embraces ALL of us and not just a select few as it was in the 40's through today.

This is probably one of the greatest movie speeches of all time. Because everything James earl Jones said was absolutely true! Its enough to bring a tear to your eye.
A baseball field is more then approximately 3 acres of land. It's the smell of new-mown grass, and old gloves, the feel of a summer sun on your face and the "horse-hide" in your hand, the sounds of a bat cracking a solid hit, or a good "rhubarb" on the field, and the belief, at the start of every season, anything IS possible. It's young ballplayers laughing and joking with one another, while playing a game to the "death." Halted only by a setting sun, or our mothers calling us to dinner out of back-porch screen-doors. A baseball field may not be Heaven, ...but it's as close to it, as a lot of us ever came.
I managed to get to the Field of Dreams from Australia last year. I just realised I sat right with Kevin Costner sat. The speech says they will pay because they have money and its peace they need. So so true, I sat and took it all in and let all the bad out. It may be Iowa but it is heaven

So many things about the US I disagree with (states running themselves, gun laws, health insurance to name a few) but the passion and spirit of what America is, that's something you can't fault, the message has just gotten lost and needs to be found again.

On Wednesday the Astros beat the Dodgers to win the first WS of their franchise's history. Yesterday I cried. Not because I'm a Dodgers fan, not because I'm a Rangers fan, not because I don't like the Astros , but because the 2017 baseball season is over and I won't get to see my beloved Red Sox play until spring. But I'm more than a Red Sox fan. I'm a baseball fan, and I would take any opportunity to watch any baseball game. Weather it be between the Red Sox and Yankees, the Padres and Cubs or just my brother's little league game. Normally this speech by James Earl Jones gives me chills, but today it almost made me cry because these words are so true and baseball is such an amazing sport. It has bonded my family, and my friends and perfect strangers together because we all share one love. The love of baseball.
As a fellow Red Sox fan, that's why 2018 was so bittersweet for me. As incredible as the season was, and trust me, it was *incredible,* you'll never get to see that same team again. If the Red Sox can go back-to-back, it would be great, but it's fair to wonder if it'll have the same majesty of 2018 if it does happen.

This monologue wouldn't have been nearly as good if another actor had played the role. The conviction of James Earl Jones' voice lends authenticity to this scene. He wasn't just reciting. His facial expressions, his hand gestures, his demeanor are perfect. The movie itself was made infinitely better by the presence of Mr. Jones - a true American treasure in entertainment.

26 My Yanks are gona destroy you next year, 16-1 is emblazened in our skulls and we seek vengeance every single day.
How can you not be romantic about Baseball?!
Opening day and I am listening to this speech
Only James Earl Jones could turn "bb-base-ba-hall" into four glorious syllables.
First time I saw James Earl Jones was on Sesame street as a kid. Been my favorite actor ever since.
This scene and speech gave me a greater appreciation for history. The past is important both good and bad. Cherish it and learn from it.
The romance in baseball is unlike any other, it is America's pastime for a reason. The one constant through the years has been baseball. True words.
Such great acting
RIP James Earl Jones...enjoy your time on the field.
Eine der besten Reden, welche in einem Film vorgetragen wurde! ❤️
This movie had such a great cast, it’s great on so many levels.
Used to be that innocent. Shame how people change. Grew up in Des Moines till 69. I remember as a kid of this kind of innocents fond memories from days long gone. Southern Ohio
Congrats to the White Sox on the win tonight, really was a miracle 9th inning homer.
Congrats Freon a Yankees fan. The game was awesome. They should do it every year
Only James Earl Jones! And only James Earl Jones could deliver this monologue in such a way with that voice. It’s so emotionally with a quiet peace.
