You whoever you are have absolutely nailed the deal with this song. It's the seesaw melody and outro which made this the most magical song DM has ever made, even beyond ENJOY, this song contains magical elements which transcend space and time.
The veryyyyy underrated Martin Gore! Fantastic Song. His voice, use of string section & guitar is magnificent. One of my favorite Depeche Mode Songs of all time!
I cannot and have not gotten over how transcendent that guitar melody is when it comes in. Such perfect lead up to the moment, can't help but have tears
This was the song that made my mom buy Ultra, and Ultra was the album that made me a Depeche Mode fan, so thank you mom. Also becoming a Depeche Mode fan raised the bar for what I consider to be good music.
The guitar before the strings and then the strings is simply indescribable . I am trying not to exaggerate but this is one of the greatest songs ever made
Here is a song From the wrong side of town Where I'm bound To the ground By the loneliest sound That pounds from within And is pinning me down Here is a page From the emptiest stage A cage or the heaviest cross ever made A gauge of the deadliest trap ever laid And I thank you For bringing me here For showing me home For singing these tears Finally I've found That I belong here The heat and the sickliest Sweet smelling sheets That cling to the backs of my knees And my feet But I'm drowning in time To a desperate beat And I thank you For bringing me here For showing me home For singing these tears Finally I've found That I belong Feels like home I should have known From my first breath God send the only true friend I call mine Pretend that I'll make amends The next time Befriend the glorious end of the line And I thank you For bringing me here For showing me home For singing these tears Finally I've found That I belong here
This is stunning. I much prefer this slightly slower tempo album version to the single. It's much longer for one thing, which is always an advantage, but you get far more of the powerful instrumental section at the end with that lovely ear-vibrating deep bass synth under the violins. It's also probably Martin's best solo vocal song.
A dark, ominous, almost suffocating melody mixed with the most emotive and hopeful lyrics and voice. That's what makes this song stand out and so special.
I had this played at our wedding a couple of years ago, to walk out of the church to. There was a little confusion in the crowd at the first minute or so, thankfully we had a long walk to give it time to build. But when the chorus dropped, holy hell. One of the top moments in my entire life.
This ending. The most beautiful ever. Just spiralling up and up 💫... Goosebumps every time! I 🖤 DM and this is my fave from Martin although I would love to hear Dave sing this.
I have just heard this song for the second time in a month on my favourite radio station and I had to look it up... I guess I have to dive deeper into DM discography. Thank you for the music!
There are those who might say this is Depeche Mode's greatest song. And they'd have a strong case. This isn't quite like anything else somehow in their catalogue. I thought they couldn't do better than Enjoy the Silence, but somehow, this can touch yet deeper.
Just listening to 'Home' . A masterpiece in its own right? Absolutely superb song and music the way it ends simplt blows me away how good it really is.
Never really delved deeply into the lyrics, I always thought it was about love, but now I believe he's speaking as if he was already in the great beyond. He's thanking JC his only true friend for showing him home which is the afterlife , (glorious end of the line) and he speaks of being under ground with no sound and being in an empty stage (cage) deadliest trap ever made which to me translates to being in a casket. And when your in the casket you smell this sweet but yet sickly scent ( why I don't like funerals that scent lingers in your mind for a while) and the heat makes the casket satin sheets cling to the backs of his knees and his feet. So in my opinion he must have a very difficult life full of depression and questioning why he was even born, (he should have known from his first breath) and his only way out was suicide and finally got the courage to do it and through that he found peace and is thankful that he was shown home which is where he belonged all along. DM forever!!
The song is about substance addiction, not God or Jesus. The "god sent friend" is alcohol or maybe drugs, because only those things make him feel less shitty. In lyrics Martin says "pretend that I'll make amends the next time", meaning he keeps telling himself that it's okay to drink just one more time, only to use the same excuse again and again.
My interpretation. .. showing gratitude to Someone .. something for helping to find a state of peace and joy.... Love this song as it brought peace to me during a hard time when released.. DM fan since 1985.
This song is so fucking beautiful. Fucky but fascination fact: David Gahan wrote this album as a reaffirmation of life after he survived a suicide attempt via cocaine OD and had a fucking heart attack. I'm so profoundly grateful the medics and whoever/whatever else was able to bring him back. This album got be through some rough shit and was in constant rotation during my most formative teenage years. 🖤🖤🖤🦇🖤🖤🖤
The only song I ever listen a lot because I'm familiar with it from this album is Its no Good but this one might be another fave. Martin's voice is so beautiful and the composition with this song takes it another level🔥
one of my favorite DM songs. used to think it was underestimated, underappreciated, etc. & when i saw them live in the mid 2000s i was proven SO wrong. the audience reaction to the song being performed live was electric. so many people in that audience as ecstatic & emotional as me, profoundly singing along. teary goosebumps. thank you, Martin.
"UMA DAS MAIS ÉPICAS E CLIMÁTICAS CANÇÕES QUE JÁ OUVI!... TRISTEMENTE MARAVILHOSA E PROFUNDA ATÉ À ESPINHA. MARAVILHOSO SOLO DE GUITARRA... UM SONHO REAL!" 🤗 🇧🇷 - M.S.C.
Korn would've made a great cover out of this. It reminds me of something you'd hear on their Untouchables album. I've seen Korn many times and am surprised they never did something like this unlike Word Up or Another Brick In The Wall. All in all this song is among Depeche Mode's best along with Barrel Of A Gun, Sister Of Night, Freestate, and The Bottom Line.
I'd LOVE to hear Korn cover a DM song. Jonathan Davis grew up listening to British New Wave music and it's highly likely DM was on his teenage playlist.
La gente reniega de la salida de Alan Wilder pero es evidente que Gore y él aprendieron mucho uno del otro.Esta canción tiene una atmósfera preciosa, Wilder sigue presente.
+KARMAkilledyou It's interesting you say that. I want to make a remix of this song, starting at 5:05, and layer it with other parts. Thing is, I don't know how to re-mix. LOL. If someone could tell me what software and or hardware I'd need to get started, I would.
Hey Biker, I just wanted to thank you, for turning me on to Audacity! I absolutely love it! I'm in the middle of re-mixing this song. I still have a lot to learn about Audacity, and I don't know when I'll be finished, but I will post it, when I do. Again, thank you!
One of my favourite songs, Depeche Mode at their finest. Absolutely love the outro of this song.
I also love the ending of this song.
I recommend you to listen to this interlude by Peter Gordeno. I cut it out for my ringtone ))

One of the GREATEST songs ever written and performed.
Without a doubt!!!
One of the strongest lyrics ever to define a human being
One of the most appropriate comment ever to define a human being. Thanks, Sir.
You know while everybody thinks that violator is Depeche Mode greatest album, I think the ultra is my personal favorite
My fav is construction time again
Me too
My favorite was always songs of faith and devotion.
I hate ultra, and i feel better knowing that it is at least someone's favorite
@@Lena-1312 I'm just glad you feel something. I was worried about you
is it only me who gets the goose bumps while listening?
it's the guitar/violin/synth outro that gets me everytime.
Barbara Pakányi yhy
Absolutely not. I get those too... this is the most beautiful song ever from Depeche Mode. When there is talent , there's a song like this one.
I get them too!!!!
Not just you my friend
This was the song that made my mom buy Ultra, and Ultra was the album that made me a Depeche Mode fan, so thank you mom. Also becoming a Depeche Mode fan raised the bar for what I consider to be good music.
I didn't think DM had enough DAKKA for da orks. :P
grugonk much much love *tear drop*
The string section at the end of the song is one of my favourite parts of any song ever
The guitar before the strings and then the strings is simply indescribable . I am trying not to exaggerate but this is one of the greatest songs ever made
YES INDEED
Same for me
Same here!! A fan since 83 I’m 52
@@johnrappaport3105 I absolutely agree. This song deserves all the attention in the world.
Beautiful song, one of the best with Martin's vocal. God bless him, Dave and Andy and long live Depeche Mode!
Here is a song
From the wrong side of town
Where I'm bound
To the ground
By the loneliest sound
That pounds from within
And is pinning me down
Here is a page
From the emptiest stage
A cage or the heaviest cross ever made
A gauge of the deadliest trap ever laid
And I thank you
For bringing me here
For showing me home
For singing these tears
Finally I've found
That I belong here
The heat and the sickliest
Sweet smelling sheets
That cling to the backs of my knees
And my feet
But I'm drowning in time
To a desperate beat
And I thank you
For bringing me here
For showing me home
For singing these tears
Finally I've found
That I belong
Feels like home
I should have known
From my first breath
God send the only true friend
I call mine
Pretend that I'll make amends
The next time
Befriend the glorious end of the line
And I thank you
For bringing me here
For showing me home
For singing these tears
Finally I've found
That I belong here
So true.......
Mee Howski Are you serious? Those are the Lyrics...
thanks for the lyrics
Why do people write lyrics to the song we already listen to? Doesn't make sense
because its sometimes hard to understand as an non english speaker :D
The outro. So dramatic. So emotional. IM NOT CRYING YOURE CRYING MARTINS VOICE MAKES ME FEEL SOME TYPE OF WAY
Thank you depeche mode for blessing us with so much amazing music. We are in debt.
Well fucking said sir....
A debt that im glad to pay each day until the day i die.
This song has the greatest fade out!
Howard Shillingford yes. To be honest I wish the syncopation in the percussion was used throughout the whole song.
YES
It really does
YES!! I can listen overs& over…..
Ever since 1st heard it….
This is the best Depeche mode song ever.

Magical

You won't be disappointed.
There is over 40 years of diving...but Depeche Mode is religion, you will figure it out.
One of a multitude of amazing songs by my favorite band since 1985
You’re in for a treat!
Love the string section in this song.
one of the most beautiful melodies n lyrics ive heard! so soothing, pure perfection! great lyrics n the voice of Martin Gore, sounds like angels
Without question, this is the SINGLE greatest song in Depeche Mode history. This is their greatest song.
John Rappaport best MARTIN song maybe.... not best Depeche song hehehe
John Rappaport lyrically
Without a shadow of doubt
@@ShipDeckSurvivor For me this is my favorite song of all songs ever produced by human beings.
Uhhh NO
DM doing only 1 album with Tim Simenon while doing 3 with Ben Hillier is one of the biggest musical head scratchers ever
Ben hillier is a bad producer?? ¿¿?

Ein großartiges Album von einer der besten Bands der Welt.!!!!!!!!
Great song and a standout in their live sets when Martin orchestrates to the crowd to join in at the end
this song is deep. love it. it has David's recovery written all over it.

Afterthought: maybe not necessarily suicide but one way or another he met his fate and death came upon him. And is now in peace by being "home"
Jose Olaso good job
Precisely. This song is about Martin's depression and contemplating suicide.
This song is about death. Do some research...
one of the best Depeche Mode songs no lie
GORGEOUS and Perfect. Really.
