One of my favorite phrases when I'm teaching children is "simple, but not easy." Something that takes time and practice but at least it's very basic to conceptualize. I love how you described the "athletic position."

Another good tip from the coach! My tip is to look at the type of shoes you are wearing. Most shoes have too narrow of a toe box and is actually very unnatural. If you can find some good barefoot shoes that have a wide toe box it does really help with balance. Remember that the big toe provides a lot of balance when you are on the balls of your feet. I learned this from watching Casey White's videos and he himself uses barefoot style shoes.

Traditional shoes also elevate the heel which can also make it difficult to get on your toes because the shoes are forcing you lift your heel even higher and lean forward more.

Good video. TY. Question about sequencing...I have heard and would tend to think it's correct to start the forward swing from the ground up. Hips, torso, shoulder, arm, elbow etc. BUT i see Mcbeth starts his forward swing with the off arm and then the hips then torso, arm etc. I am familiar with the slingshot method and want to be sure my eyes don't deceive me.
Is it correct to say..We start forward movement with the off arm (before full reach back/slingshot method) and then the hips?

Pushing off your feet is essential to get momentum going in the direction of where your trying to move your energy. Too many disc golfers think its all about twisting and turning when trying to to put power on the disc. No way would you want to turn your body almost all the way around and not push off your back leg when trying to hit a baseball. I really think its the reach back where people fall apart. To get full extension with the proper mechanics is an advanced level technique. Starting off with just shoulder coil with little reach back in my personal experience helps people stay on the balls of their feet.

No, it's all about arming the disc. I saw that in on a recent Slingshot video. All lawnmower pull!

What on earth does he mean people say not to use their back leg? What person who throws far is saying that?

A LOT of people end up in horse stance when they're throwing.

I think the bigger issue in this case is his foot being turned all the way back which eventually puts him in a horse stance.

Your one video sequence of your progression and failures and grinding with music a year or so ago, brought me to tears. That, is real disc golf, the real commitment, the real sacrifice.

I have watched all your videos, really appreciate the hard work you have put in. Now I am 45 years old 6'4" 175 lbs been playing for 4 years every day, 900 rated, but I can throw about 390' 400' on flat ground no wind with my regular form without engaging my off arm much. Now I do gain power, when I pull that off arm in, and stay on the back leg, but, I feel more torque in my knees. I notice that people with a very tall lean build like myself seem to generate enough power to win tournaments easily without looking like Paul mcbeth, perhaps is more compact player under 6' that thrive with the Paul mcbeth form being perhaps stronger and less injury prone. The archetype very tall and thin players like myself have to deal with delicate joints and can just use my 6'3" wingspan and big hands to easily get 65mph with little effort.

Always a good reminder for anyone from beginners to intermediate players to go back to basics sometimes and make sure you are doing this. Thanks Coach T!
