Hi all! This is a bonus video for this week. There will be another video going up on Thursday or Friday too! :) Thanks for watching and let me know your favorite art store where you live 👇
We are so very proud of the artists on our team- thanks for sharing your experience! One thing you will ONLY find at Blick is Utrecht-brand artist's colors and mediums- hope you get to try them next visit!
Your team at the Fort Lauderdale store were all so incredibly friendly and helpful. Superior!! And thank you for letting me know this! I'll be sure to check them out next time! :)
I love Blick for most of my painting and drawing supplies. I tend to go to Jerry's for frames--they have an amazing selection, although the prices have increased astonishingly there. Blick, if you could get some museum-quality frames that compare to the ones Jerry's sells, but maybe a bit more affordable, you'd be my exclusive supplier!
The blick store ( formly Utrecht ) in providence ri, is the only place I go to get my quality art supplies, even though I live one mile away from Michael’s
Jerry's Artarama tends to specialize in "fine art" supply, so that is why you see more paint varieties and bigger sizes. It's also why you found more other kinds of stuff at Blick, they carry a vast variety of products, not just "fine art" but crafts, too, so there is not as much space for the full array of Liquitex products, for instance. Though online I think you can get those things that seemed to be missing. I don't live near ANY big art/craft supply store (except Joanne's) so I have to order everything online.
honestly as a Floridian it wouldn't surprise me if the folks at Jerry's weren't necessary suspicious of you, just shocked that people still choose to wear masks anymore. FL govt has sort of declared COVID over with and mask mandates have been being eased/lifted by businesses for well over a year now. glad you got to check it out though, I got my travel easel from Jerry's for a killer price and I love it! :)
Oh because Florida…….I live in Wa state and personally know at least 3 people who have caught COVID this past month alone, one in the last week! As a immunocompromised individual, this pandemic is faaaaaar from over and far from safe for people like me. Just wish the rest of the US would be courteous and wear masks even when we’re not mandated. Stopping the spread will help the US with infection rates.
@@dawnchesbro4189 exactly this! I just got Covid last week after being super careful because my immune system is lacking. The way this state handled the pandemic I’m honestly surprised it didn’t happen sooner.
I work at a Joann Fabrics store and we recently had a lot of stuff on clearance. Part of it is shipments of goods not making it to us in time so they came either on sale or on clearance. Plus we are making way for the next season so we have to sell off a lot of the summer stuff so you may see lots of sales and clearance
That Blick store has such a big selection of supplies! Very cool, there aren’t any of those around me or I’d totally go 😃My favorite art store is this tiny local (well actually not so local anymore cause I moved…it’s like 2 hours away now but whatever) art store called The Drawing Board. The employees are so nice, all the products are specifically artist quality and really good, and around twice a month (at least they used to do this I haven’t been in a while) they have little samples at the door which is really cool. Sometimes a tiny container of one color of golden paint, sometimes watercolor swatch cards so you can try out a small amount of the colors, it’s just a nice little bonus. And also during quarantine they mailed out packs of origami paper to people on their mailing list to make little cranes and when they were finally able to reopen they asked people to bring in the cranes and made a beautiful window display made by the whole community :) I just realized this was a super long comment and I’m sorry!!
I used to work at Jerry's Artarama, when the West Palm Beach location was still open in the Custom Framing Department. They moved to Tallahassee and became a wholesale store a year after I left. I moved and I'm not close to a Jerry's anymore.. The store in Raleigh, SC is the main store, so if you every get a chance to go check it out, I recommend it! I always wanted to check out the Deerfield store, but never had a chance to. It's nice to see it vicariously through your video! Thanks! I can check that off my bucket list! The paper drawers were loud at our store too! It was a joy to work there, especially as an artist myself, I got to see new things as they came in. I remember when we got the new liqutex displays. ^w^ Ahhh so many good memories! Thanks for this!
I love Blick, but the locations tend to be in cities which isn’t always as accessible for in person shopping. But I’m SO happy you mentioned Jerry’s, I’ve never heard of them before and moved to a new area with very few pro art stores around, and now I found one very close to me!! Thank you! 🥺🙏
Love me some Jerry's ( & Jackson's Art ). I used to be a huge Blick and Michaels fan until I stumbled onto Artarama. I love their vast inventory variety and the fact that their shipping is fast x countless sales.
I love checking out different art stores when I'm on vacation. That's the only reason I've been to a Jerry's. I enjoy Blick, but we also have a couple of Artist and Craftsman locations near me. I totally geek out at a art store, I walk around so many times. lol
I always thought it weird when RUclipsrs don't ask for permission to film before actually doing so. Most places let you these days and then employees aren't like "wtf is that person doing". Obviously you run the risk they might say no but you could also call and ask before going to avoid going and not being able to.
I'm guessing that, because of the prevalence of phone cameras, this is no longer an issue, but when I was in retail (back in the '90s and '00s), it was illegal to take pictures of the outside of a store (in a mall at least), or inside the store itself.
I actually asked when I went to the oldest art store in the US, after seeing Chloe’s video and finding out it was doable as a day trip. I didn’t really film much inside of Jerry’s when I went, however I also didn’t have my iPod charged enough either. I haven’t filmed much at Michael’s either.
I was just about to write the same. If you don't know if you can film inside, why dont you ask? it's private property so they do have the right to refuse you filming, so I would always go with a different approach: "I am a respected art RUclipsr, can I film inside?"
I think you're really going to enjoy that Golden modeling paste. It can give a lot of body to acrylic and give you that oil look. It does dry a little chalky, but not too bad. I love it. It's a shame you didn't get any of the slow drying Golden. That with the modeling paste can almost replicate the feeling of oils.
I love shopping online at Blick and Jerry's. I tend to get paint from Jerry's and drawing supplies from Blick because they're very slightly cheaper that way. We have a Blick nearby but I've never been in that one but I have been in one in Chicago. When I go shopping locally, I go to a local shop, or Joann or Michael's for sales. When Joann was phasing out Winsor and Newton acrylics in favor of Golden, I cleaned out the clearance racks. The way you love Liquitex is the way I love Golden.
Loved the video! Also, I bought your brush pack just a bit ago. Excited to use them! I'm partial to Jerry's tbh. I got around $100 worth of mixed media paper pads ,in all different sizes, for like $25!!! Blick is cool too though!! Random thought, but I feel like Jerry's is more like the Home Depot of art and Blick is moreso like a Target.
OMG! If you went all the way to Boca Raton, you could have visited the Jerry's Artarama Wholesale club in Miami which would have been only an hour away!
I love Blick so dearly. I’m not much of an artist, so I don’t know what half of the stuff at Blick’s is used for, but that doesn’t stop me from drooling over them.
If you ever come to Houston, you need to visit Texas Art Supply. Their prices are often competitive with Amazon, sometimes even cheaper! We also have a Jerry's here in Houston.
Yes, yes yes!!! And TAS has been around since 1950...the Montrose location has been my favorite art store since my highschool days. I could spend hours there!!
Love living vicariously through your visit to art stores! I rely mostly on ordering online because I'm handicapped and can't drive. We do have a local Michaels & a Hobby Lobby; however, our Michaels is not that well stocked comparably. The more fluid Golden is not for paint pouring. It is just for techniques which require less viscosity. You can get a nice smooth application with them and as a bonus, they actually are surprisingly more highly pigmented. I am wondering if the natural canvas requires gesso? Or are you meant to paint straight on it?
I personally go ahead and gesso smooth wood panels before doing paint just as insurance that the paint will stick well. The wood will drink gesso up so I usually but a couple of layers down. Then over that, you'll probably need at least two layers of paint to get solid, even coverage for your base. I use Liquitex Basics on the reg if that helps any. As for actual, natural canvas yes. You will need to prime it before use as well.
I'm working on a series where I paint/draw a face in the middle of the canvas/page and then put stuff around them, like the first one is succulents, I plan to do flowers and crystals at some point too. The paintings, though, will be a painted face behind a bunch of sculpted, whatever item I've chosen, where I'll sculpt them out of cos-clay and then paint them. I'm very much looking forward to doing so. The succulent one is all pencil cray9n and it is taking me FOREVER!
Hi! There's a Jerry's Artarama in West Hartford, CT, a Blick Art Supply in Plainville, CT, a Michaels in many nearby cities (southington is closest to plainville), and a really cool Art store in New Haven that I'm drawing a blank on the name. The 3 above are all within 20 minutes driving from the others.
I have a jerry's artarama kinda nearby that I go to for fancy stuff. I had to go there for drafting because they have vellum (not to be confused with valium). I didn't know they were a chain.
Chloe.... WHY.... sniff sniff you forgot to take us down the watercolor isles!!!! I'm so sad. I love you and your videos, I know you're not much into watercolor but you went so far to visit these stores..... I would have loved to see the watercolor isles.
My favorite is Art Supply Warehouse which I know you visited in the past before. I've been going there for years and I really love it. For online shopping I love going to Jerry's or Blicks.
I had to pause when I saw the oldest art stores thumbnail and description because I noticed it said Massachusetts and love how she spelled Worcester since most people think you pronounce it war-chester but it's actually pronounced wuss-ter, no one pronounced the "r", I thought it was cute! In case anyone wanted a lesson on how to pronounce weirdly spelled Massachusetts cities/towns, which you probably don't 😂 I just found it funny
@@meanncat3050 Whoops that was a simple spelling error haha. We also say it Wuss-ter in the UK! Since the Massachusetts Worcester is named after Worcester in the UK :)
Blick hands down. If you had bought the damaged pad at Blick they would have replaced it no question. I purchased some pastel mat that had a tiny flaw on 2 sheets, I received a replacement within 3 days. Also if you ever get into watercolor, buy full sheets and make your own block. So much less expensive.
I went to Blick for the first time a few weeks ago and found that watercolor flip book thing that you reviewed- and I bought it to try it out! As far as watercolor- they also had Daniel Smith dot cards! To try colors before committing to buying a whole tube or pan! :) lovely video as always
I live VERY close to Jerry’s in NJ and the people there are great and won’t be concerned about masks. Here in NJ many still wear them. I do miss Pearl Art tho.
I love those art store touring videos, I live in Karachi, Pakistan, there are art store here but not big as these stores...such ASMR to experience art materials.
My favorite art shop is definitely Jerry's (Their shipping and online customer service has been superior to everywhere else I've tried such as Blick) but I only shop online because the art shops near me are in the big city which I don't like to go to. Golden is definitely my go to brand of acrylic paint! I'd love to hear how you get on with it compared to liquitex. You can use the thinner golden paint to get finer details as well.
Chloe, come to Houston! We have Texas Art Supply, Larry’s Arts and Crafts, and Art Supply on Alameda Road. There is also Texas Art Asylum which is the Goodwill of arts and craft supplies. I can spend hours in there looking around.
I’m always so entertained when I see your videos! Just what I needed after a longgggggg work day! I feel like I got my art fix without leaving the house, lol!
Reminds me of my art school days. There was a Utrecht, Dick Blick, and other small art stores in Minneapolis. Now they are all closed and you have to drive to the suburbs or order online for art supplies. Also, with the burlap canvas make sure you prime it with gesso.
The ones in the tubes that you normally use are "heavy body" acrylics. The one you got in the bottle at Michael's is a "fluid acrylic," and yes that's used for paint pouring or possibly crafts.
That Jerry's is so much bigger than the one in Austin! Still my favorite store, though - the only comparable stores around here are Michael's and Hobby Lobby, and they're just not the same.
I saw Jerry's was having sales again and bought a bunch of watercolors online from them (My nearest Jerry's is a half a day's drive from where we live and we're sick in this household. So traveling is a no go). I'm glad I finally gave in and looked online at least! I also got a handy brush organizer rack thing. It was fun, lol.
Chloe, you bring such joy and make me laugh so much! Jerry's employees are so cordial and helpful here in SE Texas. They were probably awed by your sincerity and beauty. Truly! No Blick stores here. (To Blick--> coming soon?)
This was so fun! I have shopped on their websites but have not had the opportunity to shop in store (yet!) I also wanted to share that one of your videos when you first got your Flexispot desk had me bookmark their website and I have seen how much you love your desk. After we moved, we finally upgraded my husband's desktop computer to one of their gaming desks (his old desk was our even older but much loved table, which is now my very own art table, lol!) We love it and I just wanted to thank you for introducing this brand :)
I got a chuckle outta the llama head and neck shaped Blick bag while going through Jerry's bag!! Major road tripping for Jerry's. Better and safer online I suspect. Nice to see Blick responding to your video!! Thanks for the comparison video!
I thank god every day for the Jerry’s here in Houston ❤️ THE BEST selection of art supplies in the city - and we have quite a few art supply stores here!
I don't know if you have ever been to one because I think there are only 3 in the US but SCRAP is a cool thrift store Craft store. They have vintage and donated art supplies.
Just a suggestion to grab a phone charging cord for your car! I do a lot of road trips, but I also use Waze anytime I’m driving(for traffic, hazards, etc) and gps is definitely a battery sucker. Even if you don’t road trip often, having a charging accessory in the car at all times is a plus. 🔋 📱🎉
I would love to see you sit down and do a create this book series like Moriah's. Where you just dedicate a video to doing a few pages until the book is all done!
Hullo Chloe, I like Jerry’s and Blick’s more than Michael’s. Michael’s has higher prices and a smaller selection of painting supplies, well in my local store. I have never been inside of a Jerry’s and only in a Blick’s store twice. So I am more of an online shopper. I hope you contact Jerry’s and ask for a replacement pad or refund! They have never failed to compensate me for anything that has arrived broken or damaged if I let them know about it! I do wish to comment on the Arches paper, if you think of those 20 sheets as 20 paintings the price was VERY reasonable! I have purchased paper in 22x30 sheets and if you are a watercolor painter this is the best way to buy paper! Thank you for sharing this experience with us your videos are truly inspirational and you are such a lovely person.
Both of my favorite stores! But I've never been in person lol. That canvas you've never seen others use, I use it! It's such a fun texture to work with
Cool. IF I ever go to the States again… (I’m in Canada). I will have a long list of Stores I’ll want to shop at…. And those two are at the top of my list. I love and prefer wood panels too. But They’re expensive, so I rarely get them…. I use “Canvas boards” instead. My favourite Acrylic paint is Windsor and Newton…
When I was in Art School we had 2 really good art supply stores in Philadelphia. Pearl Paint and Utrecht. Sadly they both shut down so to my knowledge there are no art stores left in the area. The closest would be Michael's.
I would love to visit Blicks! It looks amazing and has a huge seletion of art supplies! I work at JoAnn Fabrics, would love to see what you think of our store! Always a pleasure to watch your videos!
I've got physical locations of both in CT, but tend to order from both online more often. Can't beat them as a tag team: Blick's website had more detailed pigment info on Holbein's Artist Gouache lines; Jerry's has the US exclusive on Charvin acrylics I want to try.
I went to the oldest art store in the US after seeing your video of going there. I also went to Jerry’s in the Spring when I found out there’s one in the town my uncle and brother live in. I got one of the wooden panels from there as well and also got some C’arandache Neo Color crayons from there. I haven’t been to Blick’s yet and am not sure where the nearest would be.

You should look up Jacksons in the UK not massive but lots of really unique speaclist stuff like hand made papers and pastels you would love it
There’s just something about art stores that makes it feel like it’s Christmas 😅
Thank you for the bonus video and showing the wonderful supplies! I love Blick stores. They're incredible
Wow I love seeing you go to all the different types of Art stores Ms. Chloe I love you and your channel forever and always 💕
I'm jealous of this road trip. LOL.
I wish I could visit all of the art stores and buy all of the things.
I’ve never heard of Jerry’s but I work at Artist and Craftsman!! Love this place (:
You should go to Texas art supply. There’s one near Katy Texas and another one in downtown Houston. Though I suggest the one in Houston
I love stationary shopping vlogs. I just loving seeing all the art supplies even if I’m not an artist 🥹
Walking into a Jerry's, going by your vlog, feels like walking into a Curry's here in Ontario Canada.
There’s a jerrys and block probably 20 mins from each other in Phoenix
I saw Jerry's was having sales again and bought a bunch of watercolors online from them (My nearest Jerry's is a half a day's drive from where we live and we're sick in this household. So traveling is a no go). I'm glad I finally gave in and looked online at least! I also got a handy brush organizer rack thing. It was fun, lol.
Thanks for sharing this....we don't have those stores here in Belgium so it's nice to see what you can get there.....love your videos 👍👍👍😍😍😍😍🥰🥰🥰
Hey chloe I'm a huge fan of your channel and your work. Also the intro was hilarious.
I never realized I was so lucky to have both Jerry’s and Blick’s in the same city! They’ve both really close to RISD
There is a Blicks Outlet store a little over an hour from me!! I LOVE IT! Knoxville Illinois
For your next road trip, I recommend Cheap Joe’s in North Carolina! That said my favorite local to me art store is Arizona Art Supply.
You are such an incredible artist!!! I love your videos♥️
Chloe, you bring such joy and make me laugh so much! Jerry's employees are so cordial and helpful here in SE Texas. They were probably awed by your sincerity and beauty. Truly! No Blick stores here. (To Blick--> coming soon?)
I now must make it my mission to go to Jerry’s Artarama! It looks like my DREAM!
The intro is EVERYTHING 😂🤍
If you're in Texas, there's a local chain called "Asel Art Supply." They just announced they'll be closing all stores by the end of the year.
Road trip! Great haul. Enjoy! Blessing.
You soooo need to do a painting on that giant canvas!
I love Blick and Jerry’s. I have spent so much this summer because the sales have been unreal
These videos are always so satisfying for some reason :) you guys are so spoiled with your art shops in America!
I don't know if you have ever been to one because I think there are only 3 in the US but SCRAP is a cool thrift store Craft store. They have vintage and donated art supplies.
Is that the store in San Francisco? I went and it was very cool!
That is funny promo for the promo for standing desk. You sold that with you and your dog sitting and posing on the desk going up & down.
I love Golden fluid acrylic paint. I have done several paintings with it.
The Art Store (formerly Commercial Art Supply) in Syracuse, NY is my favorite art store in the US.
If you ever visit the Netherlands, visit 'pipoos'. It's not that big but fun to shop.
Or go to 'Swaak' in Utrecht (city in the Netherlands)
I like using the golden fluid acrylics for underpainting- esp quinacridone nickel azo gold
Both of my favorite stores! But I've never been in person lol. That canvas you've never seen others use, I use it! It's such a fun texture to work with
the nice thing about golden and liquitex (even blick's utrecht) they mix well with each othher
Oooo, vicarious shopping, I love it! I can't, so I really enjoyed this, thanks!
Chloe, if you are excited by the idea of liquid watercolors you might enjoy Dr. PH martins colors :)
I wondered if they had a Jerry's here (Phoenix)and they do. Woohoo!🙂
I would love to visit Blicks! It looks amazing and has a huge seletion of art supplies! I work at JoAnn Fabrics, would love to see what you think of our store! Always a pleasure to watch your videos!
the intro was ✨🌸💗
I've got physical locations of both in CT, but tend to order from both online more often. Can't beat them as a tag team: Blick's website had more detailed pigment info on Holbein's Artist Gouache lines; Jerry's has the US exclusive on Charvin acrylics I want to try.
Because you mentioned it you reminded me that I’ve been meaning to make another trip to Sam Flax.💜
the next time you're in the uk i would highly recommend visiting cass art (if u haven't already) xo
In my state we have an art supply store called artisans and they also have the slow dry golden paint I have some and love it
I went to the oldest art store in the US after seeing your video of going there. I also went to Jerry’s in the Spring when I found out there’s one in the town my uncle and brother live in. I got one of the wooden panels from there as well and also got some C’arandache Neo Color crayons from there.
I haven’t been to Blick’s yet and am not sure where the nearest would be.
Molding paint is so cool to use
I nailed a set of Uni pencils (all hardness) from Blick for $16. What a steal!
Looks like you could have gone ro Tempe!!! Whooo my area!!! But we don't have disneyworld and I have feeling that was a deciding factor!!!
