✎ In the fourth grade, he was diagnosed with hyperactivity and took Ritalin for several years so that he could focus during school. After high school, Rollins attended American University in Washington D.C., but dropped out after one semester. He began working minimum-wage jobs, including a job as a courier for kidney samples at the National Institutes of Health. After performing in the short-lived Washington, D.C. band State of Alert in 1980, Rollins fronted the California hardcore punk band Black Flag. Following the band's breakup, Rollins established the record label and publishing company 2.13.61. Since Black Flag disbanded, Rollins has hosted numerous radio shows. He formed the Rollins Band, which toured with a number of lineups from 1987 until 2003, and during 2006. He's the host of the educational history television series 10 Things You Don't Know About, joining the show for its second and third seasons. In 1995, Henry Rollins produced Australian hard rock band the Mark of Cain's third full-length album Ill at Ease. He had recurring dramatic roles in the second season of Sons of Anarchy.

I am a 61 year old man who paused his birthright to be himself and express it for 9/10 of his life. Henry Rollins is manna from heaven for me due to his subtext that born talent is a myth and its never too late follow your dream. Let me die trying just like he will, it beats just fading away.

When I was in Special Forces, I had to go on this obstacle course called Nasty Nick. It was at the Rowe Center. Anyways, the whole time I went through the obstacle course, Henry Rollins screamed, "I'm a liar" over the PA system. Back in 2013, I was with my girlfriend at Jack London Square in Oakland, CA, i saw him in person, and i told him thank you for that song, because I'd never have made it through that day without it. He was really short too, and not as big as I thought he was. I was bigger and taller than him but he was such a nice guy. I took a picture with him and I was so amazed to actually see my hero in the flesh. He's an amazing dude.

I'm Henry's age, raised on Black Flag and that whole work ethic, got into music the same way and reason. Great to see younger generations getting into it. Talent is the easy part, it's installed at the factory but it will only get you so far. But I have seen many, many talented people drop off when the road gets bumpy. However a work ethic is self installed. Thats the Mule you need to ride. You have to keep getting up every day and grind and grind, even if it;s only out of spite. That's where you find your craft . You may not be able to out sing, play, write, dance, paint somebody. But you can always out work them

Very inspiring! I had already been chasing dreams, and taking every opportunity that was dropped in my lap when I was turned on to Henry Rollins in the mid-2000's. Late to the party, sure, but I got there. His mirrors the message I've been pushing for years: if you want it, take it. Open your eyes to the opportunities around you, don't doubt yourself, but prepare to fail a few thousand times. That's how you learn, and that's how you stay true to your path. My life has been a very colorful canvas, to which I'm still applying all the color I can. With the extra inspiration that Henry has given me, I continue to take a punk rock approach to life. I don't look or sound punk rock, but that lifestyle and all that it embodies is alive within me and I am in tune with it. One additional element that puts me above the fray: I honor my ancestors. I descend from a very popular lineage, and the attributes that were alive in my ancestors are alive in me and many of my relatives today. We're naturally talented it seems, but I think it's something that is programmed in all of us, it's just a matter of tapping into it. Research your lineage if you can, and tap into your potential.

I identify with Henry Rollins, I was always told I would be nothing have nothing by teachers and principal's beaten on. watching him Grow as a man and turn the anger into a passion for success is a Story that Man can learn from. He's talented. I'd love to have that confidence and Talent... Ive been angry to the point of dangerous for many years mostly becuase of feeling inferior having a learning disability and Overweight tryi g to fit in. Beaten on Talked at not to and treated like an animal in many ways, You become an animal, simply wanting to die at one point or another. Then one day You just start to fight or die And when you do, You hit harder than hell and suprise some asshole that thinks hes better than you becuase of being privileged the feeling is amazing... for people like me, I'm lucky to have survived to be an adult. Ive still been an asshole and made many mistakes, But I'm a father a good father and that in itself makes me feel as if I made it...

Hank became a role model for a lot disaffected, angry young men of my generation (X), that gravitated toward the punk/underground scene, and we’re all better for it. His deprecating sense of humor, something I first heard 32 years ago on one of his first spoken word tapes in my best friend’s shitty car (hey, at least he had one🤦🏻‍♂), has always stuck with me. And whether because of his influence, or just dumb coincidence, it became a blueprint for mine. Cause if you can truly laugh at yourself, nothing bad - grief, depression, poverty, even a broken heart - will ever define you or your world. I’m glad some younger folks have found him worth listening to as well.

He's so right, he always thinks about not trying to fuck up and just focus, I've had situations like this where I went to acting camp for one summer cause my older brother who was actually into acting got us in for free. I was always worried about fucking my lines up but I did pretty well and stood out when I wasn't trying to stand out and be unique, nope people enjoyed my acting and were having a good laugh from it. But the whole time I was telling my self not to fuck up while also reciting my lines in my mind. It was theatre acting too. So it would've been a hit or miss but it was definitely a home run.

I don't necessarily agree with all of Henry's opinions and beliefs, but I do respect his opinion and beliefs, because he's not afraid to sit down with someone he doesn't agree with and hold a civil conversation... He isn't afraid to stand up for himself... He isn't afraid to say, "hey, that's not right..." But you know, he is afraid, and that's what makes him courageous, and he's honest, he doesn't let his emotions get in the way of facts... I have a deep appreciation and respect for him... Thank you Henry Rollins, for teaching me that punk rock is about being honest and alive, to actually live the life we've been given...

this is how I found this video " I searched for Beavis & Butthead episodes the other day on a firestick. I found every one ever made so I then thought I will just watch the ones I kind of remember from when I was a teenager. I liked episodes for a few things, the stupidity and dumbness of the cartoon and the music they watched and mocked. In one of the episodes the track "Liar" is in there and I remember the chorus just being a pure shout of "I'M A LIARRRRR" combined with huge guitars and big drum hits. So I search youtube a couple of hours ago and found the full track from a live concert where the crowd is covered in shit and pushing each other around. there is an obvious anger within the music and the people listening to it, but it's raw and not fabricated and I love that. I then see a bunch of other stuff about his interviews and I absolutely had no idea how much knowledge through life experiences he is armed him, and willing to tell. I've been sat here listening to many interviews of his and he is very consuming to the ear. I have been very negative about myself recently being stuck in a rut and angry about society with all the terror and acts of violence and evil against innocent folks. I am a kind natured individual but I feel this mass of huge anger inside myself at the same time that wants to explode on anyone or anything that threatens me or my woman to the point where if I really got into something bad I would do something worse to end it and be the one facing the consequences. This man Henry Rollins has given me some perspective to think about.

"The future is whatever you make it". Although pretty much everything I've ever heard Henry say has inspired me in some way. The fact that I sit where I am today, almost 10 years drug free and unafraid is a direct result of Henry's words. I'm a bit thick headed so it took until I was 38 to figure out I was doing almost everything the wrong way. Rollins is a constant reminder that good or bad, I put me exactly where I am. Everything worthwhile requires work and nothing is free. He is my favorite, classic narcist. Deeply damaged. In psychology we call him a "fear bonded" person. Chances are he didn't get any love, security and emotional safety ( or very little) in the first 8 years of his life. But it creates to most intresting persons.

Always refreshing when the person doing the interview is prepared, asks their questions and most importantly, just shuts up and lets them answer. I miss how discussions used to take place and now we have "triggers" and "safe zones" where grown ass men and women in College, the very place to be challenged and face different opinions, go lay down in a safe room with a blanket and a stuffed animal. I'm not saying that intentionally trying to hurt someone is at all a useful means of communication just to prove a point or to obtain a reaction. However, it is still a shitload better than this so-called "Social Justice" mentality or the professors teaching lesbian dance theory (sorry, I know that is used way too often).
But, a lot of these people have tenor and well, I am obviously glad I never had to deal with it but in some ways, I wish I could at least go back to witness it and then be astonished at how they can still somehow make it even worse by defending it with insane..... well shit, insanity is a good overall apt description so I will leave it at that. If you disagree, awesome! Unfortunately and apparently, disagreeing with someone now results in some type of academic punishment at the same time they have classes on literally what it's like being "twenty something". We are losing people who would have normally been on the front lines ready to fight because of this. Even in my 30's, I already fear that we may never have the same warriors who sacrificed all in war like those before them. They still exist and they still do it for us but far too many are starting to hate the idea all while never understanding what the idea even is.
Sorry for the rant, it's called being a little pumped up from listening to a guy put honesty before political correctness and possibly hurting someones feelings. In some ways, offending someone just makes me want to come back and make sure they are offended even worse. Then, I will laugh when they try to offend me back and actually, honestly, from the heart, have a smile on my face. I just hope that one day soon, this slumber of ignorance will go away and some people will wake the fuck back up again. Otherwise, half of the preparation for the rest of some peoples life will have come and gone right by them and near the end, suddenly, the regret sinks in and some wish they could do it all over again. It's happened to so many people and amazingly, colleges are still moving back in time out of fear for someones feelings rather than the fear of not speaking the truth regardless of who is "offended". Well, that concept can kiss my ass. I'll take the truth and factual information as hard as it might be to believe every single time and always will no matter what.
Oh, fuck you if you disagree with my opinion..... the one thing everyone has plenty of but they are becoming afraid to even speak it out loud. Hell, even I don't push my beliefs of religion or spiritualism, politics, etc. on anyone in this world. It doesn't matter and I don't care to be honest what you do or don't believe. That is a beautiful thing we are also slowly losing sight of although history books are filled with examples of both horrific and unbelievably beautiful stories both accurate and completely false as we have learned through the decades and centuries. Yet, there are those who become more upset over an insult than they do over war and the horrors and dissolution that comes with it. As with war and death, life and a lifetime of pain, it slowly starts to get better and I certainly hope the same will happen to this generation of grown men and women who hide in a room with blankets, nice polite music and perhaps even a puppy each time their feelings are hurt. That to me, is insane and as I was typing it and dedicating my time to address it, resulted in me thinking of getting some pussy if possible tonight and forgetting about it for awhile. I mean, who the hell actually says a blowjob at least doesn't feel GREAT?! Even with all of that said, the sense of being normal is more and more apparent to myself at least. Lucky (or unlucky) if that's how you feel ladies, someone is getting offended or getting off tonight or very soon. Either way, that's it and it's a very simply put, awesome reality taking me far away from the insanity of just how ignorantly relevant so much of what I said not only is but how a kid in college is equally aware and interested in their "Social Justice Warrior" activities instead of some straight up, no strings attached sex where everyone is releasing some tension. Sigh... as long as of course, neither of them gets offended >:)
Well, at least after saying all of that, I still keep an open mind and am willing to listen to probably anything even if I disagree and completely hate it. Sometimes, it can be one of the best lessons in life to make a change in your own thought process or perhaps a change on an entire subject just because you listened and their perspective caused a change within yourself. It's a lot better than having a riot rather than taking a few minutes of your life to just shut up and hear what someone else is saying. That balance, once discovered, is one of the most powerful weapons we all potentially have within us.

If you could put the bullet points on the screen bigger or across the screen it might help I don't know of any buddies having the same problem but I can barely see the bullet points I suppose I could on a laptop tablet or desktop but on a mobile phone it's frustrating other than that great content

At a spoken word performance by Henry in Australia a few years back i was the only person in the audience to stand and applaud after 3 solid hours of Rollins gold. More a reflection on the crowd that attended that night than me. The man is enlightened. The audience was out to lunch.

    "Anger Informs My Life"...
He put it so eloquently. I'm not mad at anyone. I'm just so fueled by the "you can't" "you won't" "no one can/will/wants"
I'll burn myself out to provide the positive to the negative.
    "I'm nobody, from nowhere"
Ulysses S. Grant would be proud.

I remember my brother calling into a nationally syndicated rock show in the mid 90s and Henry Rollins was the guest. Somehow he got through and was able to ask Henry a question. Henrys answer was thoughtful, polite, direct, honest and attentive.
