I refused to pay the 500 for mp44 with a trailer plus other accessories I would never use along with the issues the original had, but seeing this KO im definitely gonna be picking him up, thanks for the review emgo! Always been one of my favorite toy reviewer 🔥🔥

Honestly the matte plastic and silver paint makes it look more accurate if that's what you're looking for

The All Silver matrix looks like the design mainframe used in Beast Wars.
I still love my MP-10 and consider it the centerpiece of my collection. The official MP-44 pricing was insulting and, quite honestly, I’m not a huge fan of the cartoon accuracy the line has taken. But this KO is mighty tempting.
It's very good. I picked up the 3.0 silver legs version and have zero complaints.
I mean,.isn’t masterpiece SUPPOSED to have cartoon accurate molds?
It's very telling that this version of MP Optimus was never offered by Hasbro for a lower price like MP-10 and MP-01.

You forgot to mention that the hip skirt in the KO is molded in white with yellow inserts, which skips the paint rub problem altogether.
Also, my copy of the jetpack fits well. Only the Starscream scoops don’t.
Funny but my copy of this KO has the SAME loose left gas tank and gun. I’m using super-glue to thicken the tabs to get them to fit better.
My problem is this isn’t red painted, I know for many they couldn’t care less but for me is what the original pops up over all the other primes
If this came with a trailer (not necessarily the same overly complicated one from Takara, more like MP10's made MP44 compatible), this would be an instant buy from me. I guess I'm one of those weird folks who actually loves Prime trailers. Figures always feel totally vacant without it.

I picked up one of these for the same reason. I don't want my official to break, or loosen up, but I do enjoy the transformation. These are pretty decent figures.
The silver paint matches the imitation.

Looks like there's a little glitch in the video at around 17:40 or so. An interesting update to the design of the figure - and the added bonus is that without electronics, there's no batteries to wear out and/or leak corrosive goo a few years down the line.
edit: I have to add that as a long-time fan, it is just SO WEIRD to see knockoffs using LESS chrome parts than the original mold, and roughly equivalent quality plastic. The market is just so different than it was even in the noughties, let alone the eighties and nineties.

I remember when i first started watching you it was about MP 10 few weeks after I ended up buying him my first transformer since i was 10 now here i am watching you again about this version of prime and as of the release date of this video 3wks later I went and bought him lol thanks for the unintended influence in a good way to get this figure (update) : so for transformation to truck mode my right arm joint where you push in at the elbow to collapse in was literally stuck I had to remove the entire screw just for it to be loose putting it half way back in dont do it justice so ill leave out the screw and add a dab of glue
It took me a while to figure out that KO meant Knock Off (Duh!). Thanks for the great review...I agree it's a must have to keep the OG MP-44 in Robot Mode and the KO in truck mode.
Be very careful with the waist joint. It's a known issue that they shaft it rotates on can snap easily. I ended up snapping mine on one copy and 3D printed a replacement. On this one it snapped first time and I just put a thicker screw in to secure it.

A touch of paint, a few repro labels and you're fine !
Ive still got my MP-10 Optimus Prime mint in box along side MP Grimlock. Always wanted them when I was a little kid but could never find them and I bought these as soon as they became available.
I almost forgot what an over-engineered mess that transformation is. A nice bot mode and a nice truck mode, but that transformation is way more complicated than it needs to be

Every good looking prime ia overcomlicated.... TE is arguably bettrr looking but is even more convoluted.
I’m not excusing the mess of a transformation, but I do wanna give my theory as to why it’s so over engineered(the top half at least). They were probably trying to work around the voice box, and the result just ended up looking like a mess. Again, I’m not exempting takara from their ways, just throwing my take into the flame
My respects to the ones who play stopmotion with this figure... amongst others.

I got the silver shorts version of this ko, sad to say he was missing the truck mode window/windshield but was still impressed
BTW, I find that if you keep the little panel at the ankle folded in, and DON'T fold the taillights in (leaving them at a 90 to the foot) you get a much better look and stability.

I am addicted to these Optimus’. I just ordered this one. On top of the one underway, I have 2 of the original KO (one snapped in half, but received replacement part) and 2 TE-01, combined all for LESS then 1 of the original Takara (albeit without trailer)… I also have the Newage and magic square 2.0 (en route). I am also planning to get the Lego one…. Hopefully I won’t have the compulsion to buy more Optimus’s… at least until Fanstoys finally makes an attempt😋

Hey emgo love watching all your reviews just wanted to let you know I just got this KO MP44 Optimus Prime & I got the jet pack & it fits this figure
I wonder what kind of deal Takara Tomy made with China where the factories can reuse the molds and resell, pretty much the same figure, for far less. Bandai doesn’t seem to have the same issue as I don’t see knock-off Megazords for sale online that often. I bought knock-off Zyuohger sets for I think 20 bucks a few years ago and that was pretty much it.
I would guess it is because transformers are more sought after. The ko company must have done their homework, reverse engineering a toy shouldn't be too difficult if you have the proper tools.
@@tohneyteoh My best guess is to cut production costs, Takara Tomy made an agreement to share the official molds with manufacturing factories. They then can make their own toys, maybe even tweak it a bit, and resell under a different brand. I’ve seen some KOs made by “Tanaka Tony” and/or sold in the official MP packaging. Just my 2 cents.
they don't make any deal man, these are unlicensed and in a shady grey area for legality. the KO companies pull the toys apart and recreate them. it's cool the exist, but takara would not be happy at all, nor would they endorse them.
One of my friends who sells legit figures and ko figures told me that these ko products are likely rejected ones because of small or huge malfunctions to the toy.

Basically this figure has most of the stuff fixed that was wrong on the original plus at an affordable price. Yeah, no brainer.
The only difference is that it doesn’t have that “high quality finish” which is better for less paint chipping
If this was the official execution I'd have been much more inclined. Gotta love it when the KO is an improvement

I'm kicking myself for not getting the original magic square light of freedom. I absolutely love that look for prime and wish I could still find one.
I couldn't get the front wheels to touch the floor, the faux grill would stick out too far. I removed the sliding gimmick in the matrix chamber, popped the matrix back in and now he rolls like a champ.
ko looks way better, the torso overall looks better imo, wouldn't have a problem painting it if I need to

I have the Nemesis version of MP44 I think it was MP49. anyway while they still have the back pack they improved the knee. I don’t fear of breaking it or that the mold would desintegrate but I also don’t transform as much as you do
MP49 is a sh*tshow of a toy. Poorly built, poor clearance leading to the whole upper body wobbling as soon as you pick it up. At a price tag of $250, I expect better from takara.

I have the first ko that came out of that figure, and in his right hand, it is impossible for him to hold the weapon, in his left hand, on the other hand, he holds it quite well, I don't know if it will be only in my copy, or in general.
TE-01 fills my MP Optimus needs but this looks really good for a KO, glad to hear the quality is actually pretty good. I may pick him up to have a MP to display in truck mode. I wonder if some glosscoat would help him have that Official MP-44 Sheen?
Use a Satin varnish clear coat. A Gloss coat will make it look very cheaply.
Not sure anyone notice this, but when Emgo is handling the figure to make the ending clip, you can clearly see the upper body of MP44 wobble like hell, same goes for my mp-49. Did the KO fix this issue as well or it's just because it's relatively new and the issue just hasn't occur yet?
I don't blame you for wanting to get a KO of this. The transformation seems so needlessly complex.

I bought this KO when the first release came out and even with it's issues and things that had to be fixed, I love it! And the KO trailer is coming too! I have that preordered!
You should get all of the KO +the og and without and make a guessing game out of it

Emgo, the Jetpack does fit on this 4th edition of the MP-44 mold. I have the Nemesis version and it just snaps on and stays on. ;)

Be careful with his left leg, it's infamous for the breaking ratchet after a few transformations. (I'm never buying this mold again, I'll stick with my TE-01)

You said you could tighten up the joint of the silver bit on his left leg, how do you do that? Can you tighten up any joints on these toys? I've got a few loose ones here and there on some of mine that it'd be nice to tighten up. Is there like a video or something on this?
This is a good KO but i've finally come to the conclusion that i don't like MP-44's proportions and sculpt.
If only Magic Square could oversize and improve their Legends Class Optimus 2.0 to MP scale...

Knockoffs just keep getting better? Also, I'm pretty sure no Cybertronian knows their own birthday. Daniel had to go on an adventure to find Magnus' and still came back empty handed! Still smarter than A Prime Problem, my least favorite normal length G1 episode, for a lot of the same reasons as Megatron's Master Plan? The only difference is Prime Problem only makes the Autobots look bad while Master Plan makes an entire city look terrible while also being a mockery of justice!

I just got this today, and... the outward facing arm pannels... are awful. I hope it's just this copy...
It must've not been playtested. a clearance issue caused the hand joint to snap. Not to mention he actually drew BLOOD from my hand
