  • Using the modal verb ‘Had better’ correctly in English conversation - English Grammar Lesson
    Blog : www.learnex.in/...
    In this English Grammar lesson, you will learn how to use the modal verb ‘had better’ in a sentence. Most people get confused while using this modal verb.
    ‘Had better’ is used to give advice in a particular situation, especially when you want to ensure you avoid a negative consequence outcome. In the spoken English language, we use ‘had better’ to give advice in the present and future. It is not a very commonly used modal verb.
    Website : www.letstalkaca...
    Facebook : / letstalkpodcast
    Take a look at some examples.
    Example 1: You had better tell her everything. (if you don’t, there will be an unpleasant outcome.)
    Example 2: We had better get back to work. (if we don’t, our boss will yell at us when he sees us sitting together)
    Example 3: We had better reach the airport at 5 or else, we may miss the flight.
    Example 4: You’d better not lie to her. (Use ‘had better not’ in the negative expression, and not ‘hadn’t better)
    Example 5: We had better not miss the start of the film.
    Example 6: Had I better speak to John before I send the parcel? (To form a question, put ‘had’ before the subject)
    Example 7: Had we better leave a note for her on the table?
    We hope this English Grammar lesson to learn the usage of modal verb ‘Had better’ correctly and now you have cleared all your confusion to use it in your English conversation.

    Your video is optimistic, and I appreciate your video.
    But I have a confusion that in a Negative sentence we do not use 'not' between 'Had Better' while in Interrogative sentence we use 'subject' between 'Had Better'.
    Would you like to elaborate this confusion?

    Is that right?

  • @JunaidAslamVideos
    @JunaidAslamVideos 8 лет назад +1

    thanks. rachna... I thought that we only use had better in replacement of should.. but now I understand the concept... well I want to ask something.. some people use " you better go with him" is this correct
    I mean is there any structure or model in which only "better" used.. I will wait for ur reply
    thanks

    • @letstalk
      @letstalk  8 лет назад +1

      +Junaid Memon You can use the structure 'better go' again to strongly suggest something.

    • @EdgeOfLight
      @EdgeOfLight 8 лет назад

      +Junaid Memon It's the same principle but you omit "had". It's a more informal style, as in "you (had) better clean up the room right now!" "I (had) better leave"
