Great job.
We do this all day long, spend some time running tape/paper, tape and insert poly over windows, and place carboard shields to avoid overspray mess. Overspray is best managed by going the distance on prep, never leaving a trace of spray damage, cutting down from soffits.
Backbrushing crew follows the sprayman using 30 inch in-line pole gun with pressure turned way down. Sikkens Primary, and Top coat products superb and stand alone.
Good vid !
I wish you guys would upload more videos. These are life changing!
Very helpful, doing my first re-siding project with split log on my cabin and just getting ready to stain. So glad I watched your video first, thank you.
Amazing. You're a perfectionist, and it shows
You guys know exactly what you're doing. Great work!
It would be great to see more new videos of everything you do!
Awesome video, excellent knowledge and experience on application of stains. I’m about to do redo my 4000sq ft log home, already have the wrong brushes, but going to to use airless spray with back brush, probably a month for me as a one man team. Thanks for the very detailed video.
Any time. I hope your project turned out well.
Nice work Boss.
Cant believe this guy didn't use any tarps or masking. I do this for a living and that is one of the most important things you need to do. Also you'll be much more efficient using a backbrush pole.
Using the fine finish low pressure tips really allows us to get close to the window frames. We always keep a wet rag on hand to wipe any overspray from the metal cladding. We hand w ash/Razor blade all of the windows upon completion so the windows look like a mirror. Dont get me wrong-Alot of times we do mask everything as you mentioned. Thanks for the recommendation on the back brush pole- Im just old school I guess!! Thanks for the comment
Wax on Wax off...... Great Video
Excellent work. What is the maximum amount of time before you see drying in your sprayer if taking a lunch break?
I’m a painting contractor in PA, and I gotta say, your rocking’ buddy. So, Sashco is a water base product based on washing it in the sink? I worked with it once years ago, and remember it being an oil.. I’m still a Sikkens guy, but I like what I’m seeing. Fantastic work!
Yes sir. The sashco capture/cascade system is water based. They do also make oil based as well but I’m not a big fan of it. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the video! I've been considering Sashco for our full scribe log home still in the log peeling process. The builder recommended Sashco, i like the color you're putting on in the video. Which color is that?
The Color was a custom blend of 4 parts Chestnut and 1 part Hazelnut on freshly stripped ( no smooth mill glaze present) log siding.
Hi - Was wondering what sprayer you were using and what tip? Looks amazing.
I was using a titan 740 electric airless sprayer. (way oversized for the project). You can get away with virtually any airless sprayer over 800 psi. I was using a 212 high efficiency airless tip to cut down on the overspray possibility. smaller tips orfice are best. Remember- its easier to put more stain on then to brush out runs all day with a tip that is too big.
Should spray top to bottom
How much would you charge for a job like like?
I don't care if you are using a fine finish tip or not, the fine particles of stain fly everywhere once you have any wind over 3mph.. I've been painting for 30 years and we tape everything up, and that's for water base stain. For oil stain we won't even spray it unless the job if in the middle of nowhere so the stain vapors won't travel and hit something 75 yards away.
and where's your respirator?
I don’t understand why you’re not wearing a mask. Is this stain? Have any fumes to it at all?
About to stain a new cabin. What brush do you use? I can’t find anything local and our Sashco dealer said use a regular China bristle brush.
Yes- White China Bristle 4" or 6" block brush. We get ours by the case from Menards ($18.00 each) by the case as we usually use new brushes every single day as the ends get frayed and the Capture Stain/ Cascade Clear is very hard to clean from the brushes. Using a low quality brush will do nothing but make you mad and hate staining!
Why not start at the top and work down? Seems like you are constantly fighting gravity and checking the lower stained areas for drips. Start at the top is usually a good rule of thumb.
Because any drips from the top will show up when the sashco capture stain is applied. I see your valid point. I guess its a horse a piece. I usually like to get the sprayer setup and the brusheds "broken in" on the ground level. Thanks!
What is the best 6 inch brush to use
Yes, what color of Sashco is this? Where can I get those brushes? Thanks
Sashco Chestnut stain. Brushes were from Menards. We use new brushes every day. $14.00 each. Thanks !
I'm curious, how expensive is it to strip and restain a cabin home?
It all depends on the size and the amount of restoration needed. Access around the house to the logs/siding/gables etc is also another challenge as most houses have landscaping surrounding the house. Our process consists of touching EVERY SQUARE INCH of the surface 6 times! Quality takes time! Thanks!
This shit is gold. Where do I get that moisture reader?
Hey David, Thank you for your support. Also, a great question. I recommend visiting your local hardware store or simply ordering from amazon. Please feel free to reach out with any more questions.
What kind of sprayer are you using here?
titan 7401 electric airless. (way to big for what is needed). Virtually any airless sprayer over 800psi will spray the sashco stain /most all stains. using a fine finish low pressure tip will also benefit you.
what color are you using?
Sashco Chestnut. It was a beautiful color with no orange hues.
All the prep to just use a water based stain 🤦🏻♂️
