    I am in a high-altitude/UV environment so my understanding is that the logs will need to be maintained every 3-5 years. What are the advantages/disadvantages of using the clear topcoat? I am concerned about the extra expense of removing the clear topcoat before applying the maintenance stain every 3-5 years.

    hello! I first sand, then remove the dust, then I make an antiseptic for wood, and 2 layers of oil or paint, I apply with a brush! both a log and a board! I in Russia earn for 1 square meter of turnkey work, my consumables and tools, the customer buys only paint and sealant and antiseptic! his material and I take $ 10 per square for the whole complex. How much does this work cost you? I pay the workers $ 7 for work per 1 square meter !!! I will be grateful if you answer !!!

    I think I'm not putting enough stain, it's hard to tell because you use a sprayer here and I'm using only a brush... and i am going over a previous finish where you are starting on bare wood.

    How do you recommend applying the stain if you have white chinking between the logs?

    • @timothyboone5003
      @timothyboone5003 3 года назад

      Apply the stain to the wood as you normally would. Then purchase chinking paint in the color of your choice. Painting the chinking sounds like a daunting time consuming task. But it’s really not.

  • @FrankysPainting
    @FrankysPainting 3 года назад +1

    You have a lot of knowledge on how to do this. But if you did this on a hot day you would had gotten lap marks all over the place. Your idea of feathering it out is only thinning the coat and making it dry faster so when you get to the other side it's mostlikely already drying and will leave a lap mark. What you have to do is leave a wet edge, heavy wet so when you move your ladder to the other side of the log the edge will still be wet then you do a one brush feathering motion towards the wet section not away from it. Even though it's cold where you did this I'm pretty sure you still got some lap marks lol

    did you apply the top coat right after the stain (same day)? or did you wait a few days for the stain to dry?

    • @PermaChinkSystems
      @PermaChinkSystems  9 лет назад

      +Jenna Silva-Messer While the applicator does not remember in this case, the topcoat can be applied as soon as the color coat is completely dry and no longer tacky or wet to the touch. This can take 2-4 hours or longer depending upon the weather.

    How would you remove stain from the siding if you don't like the color?

    • @PermaChinkSystems
      @PermaChinkSystems  9 лет назад

      You would need to sand, media blast, or use a chemical stripper and a pressure washer.

  • @bartwhite5046
    @bartwhite5046 8 лет назад

    Jeff do I have to put a stain on ? can I sand to the wood and just put on a clean coat or sealer ? like the look of unstained wood

    • @jeffkyger1124
      @jeffkyger1124 5 лет назад

      I get this question a log. If you can see your wood, so can the sun.Generally the sun will go through the clearcoat and discolor the wood. There is no UV protection in any clear product. UV protection is achieved with pigment only.

    • @magapickle01
      @magapickle01 Год назад

      @@jeffkyger1124 so clear coats put on cars now have the ability to protect the paint from the uv rays . Alot more expensive than just any clear coat though so you have to look for them at automotive body shop paint supply warehouses

    • @jeffkyger1124
      @jeffkyger1124 5 лет назад

      You can. Or you don't have to. It depends on the condition of the stain, the color,how much mold/mildew exist,etc. It also depends on your desired results.

    • @jeffkyger1124
      @jeffkyger1124 5 лет назад

      There are way too many options depending on what one's trying to accomplish ranging from rinsing off dust to chemically stripping off the existing stain.

    • @jeffkyger1124
      @jeffkyger1124 5 лет назад

      It depends. Everything depends. Ive also sanded other houses as well. Keep in mind, a stain won't penetrate in wood as deep if it's first finely sanded. Jeff Kyger - Northwest Log Home Care

    • @jeffkyger1124
      @jeffkyger1124 5 лет назад +3

      Because it's 10-15 times faster to spray then backbrush it then to apply it all with a brush.

    • @timothyboone5003
      @timothyboone5003 3 года назад +1

      You can tell this guy has never stained an entire house before, using each method. The sprayer is the delivery method and will also get into cracks and crevices that can be difficult with a brush alone. The brush is used to work the stain into the wood.
      It’s not uncommon to apply 10 or more gallon in a days time. How long would it take to dip out 10 gal with a brush? That time and energy is saved by using an airless sprayer.
      By far it’s sure not pointless!

    • @magapickle01
      @magapickle01 Год назад

      You can always attach a big brush to an airless wand if you want to do everything in two strokes ?? I might have to attempt to do this this next season
