Lilly very good suggestions on the improvement of the Mora Garberg; one last suggestion I would have made would be that they strengthen the lanyard hole by maybe incorporating a metal grommet through the lanyard hole to support the plastic of the handle, then the hole could be used as a 'proper' socket for bow drilling with out any damage to the handle. That would reduce the 'drag' of the drill on the handle improving it's ease and success of making a fire. That along with your suggestions would improve the overall performance of the knife and take it a step further into being a true 'bushcraft/survival' knife....

Great video, thanks! One thing about knife handles, though. I agree that while anything that helps improve grip is an improvement, unfortunately grips with finger grooves, etc. don't fit everyone the same way. I have someone locally who shapes knife handles specifically to my hand. If that's a service that's available to bushcrafters in their region, I highly recommend it.
cut away the handle area around the lanyard hole and glue in a small skateboard bearing and make it a proper bearing point for the use of fire drill. 14c28n is a fine budget steel but there are plenty of better stainless steels out there, and honestly for the Garbergs price point I want a better stainless steel.
Thanks for the destruction tests. They are sort of sad, though 😉. Good comments about safety, too. Consider discussing how difficult it is to repair the things you damage, or if they even can be repaired. (If not just throw them away and I will take out your trash).

For me, the reason why this knife is so great, is the performance you get for the price. Its sharp when you get it, gets razor sharp with under an hour of sweet love and attention, it holds it edge better then some of the more expensive ones, and frankly, it looks great. I am getting another one, I will put a wooden handle on it. It's is my fav knife

I really don't see the point of these tests, especially when you are trying to baton with your knife... and an axe ! This is not realistic. If the point was to see what it would take for the blade to bend/chip/roll you could just smash it with a hammer.
every knife reacts differently, only if you push the knife to its boundaries you will see what it can take. that is why the automobile manufacturers perform crashtests as well.

This is ridiculous. Why do you have to always prove that well-received knives are bad? I have a Garberg for 1 year now, after intense use (food prep, fire-making also with wet hands), I haven't experienced any of the problems you mentioned. Besides I would rather call your AUS8 knife as a prybar rather than a knife.
I didn’t know that Bushcraftsmen or even desperate Buscraftsmen would use a large rock to hit the spine of their $100 knife. Don’t seem like many knifes would like that.
They just made a new Garberg. Still a 10cm blade -I think they will keep this size to keep the knife free-, still the same handle... but.. it is made out of black carbon steel. I'm using the "old" garberg myself for a year now.. it nearly cut my finger off some weeks ago, through an aramid glove. I rly love it! I'm going to get me the black Garberg for x-mas. :)
Totally Useless.... 120 000 views ??? I own this knife, you immediately feel that it’s a good knife. No need to destroy it ! When You try to do Stupid things you will get hurt ! ( I work in hand surgery )
I would really rather use an axe befor I destroy or misuse my knife. I don't mind to carry an axe and a saw because I enjoy their usefullness alot. Heck! ... I even enjoy having multiple knives and tools for different jobs.
I like seeing abuse tests of tools. It gives some idea of the limits of the tool. If you abuse the Garberg with a stone, will the steel roll, or chip, or seriously crack? I sorta expect 1055, and 5160 steel to behave in a certain way. However, if I've never had a tool with Krupp 4116 steel, I am curious of how it behaves. Will the handle, or choil area crack with abusive batoning? If you pry with it in an abusive way, should you expect it to snap, or bend, or spring back? If you hit bone, or a nail, or stone, how badly will the edge deform? How difficult will it be to restore to a serviceable edge, while in the field? For a tool lover, it is cringe-inducing to watch, but it's also good info. Thanks Lilly.
Ms. Lilly, I cringed during this review/test. You've been a very bad lady. I realize that you were using extreme measures to test this knife but it's a knife that I'm saving up to purchase and wish I had. I guess when I get one I know it will stand up to things I would never do to it. I was shocked by how little tip damage was done in your tests. Now stop being mean to your knives. ;0)
I have the Morakniv Bushcraft Carbon Steel Survival Knife and I love it. And yes, it too could be a little longer. But then I do own several others so I can use something else for batoning if need be. I'll probably be buying yours if it ever gets back in stock. Lol
I was not going to comment at all on this ridiculous "destruction test". But I cannot resist. The question bouncing around in my head is "why"? Clearly, nobody's going to beat their knife with a stone or maul in the real world. I guess I prefer real world tests of performance. For instance, I had a LT Wright Genesis with a scandi edge. It chipped the first time I used it to baton a small piece of pine, (with a wood baton). A 3V Bark river Fox River tip bent when separating a joint on a elk leg. Real world results. Then I recalled, there is the Buck advertising with the knife cutting into the bolt. I've seen other ads where the knife cut through coins, so maybe you are on to something. Lets all try the maul & rock test on our favorite bushcraft knives to see if they're up to the task. I do agree the blade should be longer and the handle would be better if it were more like the companion or bushcraft black.
For anybody complaining about knife survivability tests watch jörg's channel and understand that you need to know the failure point of a knife if you're doing an objective review
Good for the hardcore testing, but I cannot see ANY point of batoning a knife with a rock.... except if you are on a rocky/stone planet with no wood around, which .... come on :D
AUS8 stainless is softer than most other stainless steels (my turd Japan made loose handled SRK chipped after striking a small rock concealed in the dirt). Stainless chips while carbon steel (being softer than stainless) just rolls or flattens which is easier to fix. If you want a stainless knife to somewhat perform like a carbon steel one, AUS8 is a decent starting point; look into similar metallurgy to find better options - naturally prices will vary. The AUS8 is still fairly hard to sharpen like most stainless steels however.
Overall a good video but I don't believe you should be batoning wood of a larger diameter than your wrist with this size of night if you want a baton large pieces like that you need something with a 10-inch blade. I believe this knife is very good for what it's intended to be and you can't go wrong with it
Mora knives are a standard Bushcrafting, now that its full tang with a nice pomel its even better, just wish the price was a little lower for me I know its not a bushcrafting knife but I would go for a KaBar Becker BK2 for $73- its a tank of a knife
First, you wouldn't normally be abusing the knife in this way. e.g hitting the blade edge with rock or banging the blade on rock etc where you would expect some damage to any knife blade, Mora or otherwise. Why would anyone want to do that under normal circumstances? Second, any machinery, tool or implement used outside its parameters is bound to show some defect. e.g. you would not use a butter knife to cut through 2 inch thick piece of hardwood, in the same way you would not use a Mora garberg or any knife blade to try and cut through a piece of granite. Third, a better test would be to use a knife over a longer period of time and in different situations, to see how it performs under normal conditions of what it is intended for. I don't think any manufacturer could guarantee that if you batter any blade edge with a piece rock that it will not sustain damage?
Could you review/destroy test a Emerson Government Mule fixed blade? He actually tells people to go abuse the knife. I bought one But I am not in the position to do this kind of testing. A Emerson would be interesting.

That would reduce the 'drag' of the drill on the handle improving it's ease and success of making a fire. it would be interesting to see:
tip strength test, nailing the tip into a sheet metal thickness a few mm
the tip break off test with nailing the tip into the log and twisting it off
bending test, with known fulcrum and force, how much can it bend before permanently deforming/breaking, what torque/force is required for that, (weight gauge and a metal pole of known length)
twisting/torsion test when the knife is nailed into the log, and torqued along the axis, this test is more important in folders tho

Buen video... Sólo que yo no lastimaría tanto.mi Garberg.... Vivan los cuchillos Morakniv. Saludos.
14C28N is a Sandvik steel, marketed as a knife steel. More info here: www.materials.sandvik/en/products/strip-steel/strip-products/knife-steel/sandvik-knife-steels/sandvik-14c28n/
What is its hardness rating. I've got a carbon Mora, but it's not full tang. I'm really interested in this model, and any info would be appreciated.
Lily I just showed my wife how to Baton. A big kitcken knife, a rolling pin and Squash!!!
That's a good idea
I miss these 'In Field' tests. Hope you can get out in your woods again now that you're feeling better.
cut away the handle area around the lanyard hole and glue in a small skateboard bearing and make it a proper bearing point for the use of fire drill.
14c28n is a fine budget steel but there are plenty of better stainless steels out there, and honestly for the Garbergs price point I want a better stainless steel.
lol, why did you not use the axe to split the logs?. :)
Thanks for the destruction tests. They are sort of sad, though 😉. Good comments about safety, too. Consider discussing how difficult it is to repair the things you damage, or if they even can be repaired. (If not just throw them away and I will take out your trash).
a LILY WORK OUT VIDEO! YOU GO GIRL!! This test would be a lot different done by a 250 pound man. Changing the handle means changing the sheath of course. i made a belt clip mod on my ELDRIS.....''wishing Mora would take a hint, too''. That stupid leather strap is a two hand deal, my belt clip is one hand, and works great. Carry the Eldris daily on my fishing boat.
I love the garberg. I prefer to pay 80 euro's for the garberg then spend over 200 for another full tang blade
That's good information. As an American whose wallet isn't wider, I need to know the best value for the money.
Beauiful blade .nice wont rust. Its tough .job done.i got one very good steel.1428sanvick.
Mora wood carving 106 & 120 are full tang.
Is your knife you sell called the Survival Lilly Cutting Tool or Knife ... I'm looking for a knife 🤣 .. I would probably get one of those Mora Garberg cutting tools if it was a knife .. cause I really want a knife .. I already have a bunch of cutting tools 😆 🤣 😂
I got 10 mora knives! I got 3 mora garberg stainless and 1 mora garberg carbon! The rest are mora companion, Kansbol and the little mora! These knives are dangerously sharp! One of the best bushcraft knives you can get!
I just broke a K-BAR knife full size. (U.s.m.c.)knife splitting fire wood with a hammer. Hammer won. I've had that knife 20+yrs.😢😤. Thank you an stay healthy.
Survival Lilly I do tests on products and work on international standards. There always has to be a link to *real* stress situations. You do not test a car by pushing it off a cliff ;-) Love your videos anyway!
What a crock of shit response. All it proves is that it didn`t break... that time...
ergo, in your eyes it Passes the test. You have no idea ,if it will or will not break next time.
Nice try,
Greetings from Nova Scotia Canada
No offense but I CRINGED when I watched this video LOL
I got the stainless steel version of this knife & if I'm lucky enough to make it to 100, this knife be with me that LONG as well, its that damn good !!
🙂💯👍👌
cutting tool this, cutting tool that,,no,one in the history of humankind has ever shouted across a campsite, hey fred ,can i borrow your cutting tool?..its a knife, pure and simple.call a spade,a spade..
Beating on the knife with a rock and the back of an axe !!! Did it Nick up the blade or anything ? Goodness gracious !!!
I am sorry Lilly I really like your videos and follow your channel regularly but this test is just not realistic i do not even understand what message you are trying to convey here.
Do not get in this 'ultimate destruction tests' hype like other youtubers and Keep your regular content going we love them MORE and you are very good at inspiring others.
I am not a Mora Fanout do not get me wrong n fact I do not even own one but these tests are just stupid. Why on earth do you hit the edge of blade on a rock!!
I know of no steel that will withstand that regardless of their Heat treat and etc.
and Batoning using a rock??
That is just uncalled and unfair stress test on a knife
