As a filipino living overseas, I appreciate filipino culture more now. The fiestas, the festivals, the views. No wonder not a lot of us go to therapy, singing in itself is some sort of therapy and it's perfectly acceptable to sing anywhere.

your observational skills are next level, it took me few years to figure out the things you mentioned correctly in couple of weeks. Its all true, Filipinos are the best singers and dancers in the world, Filipinos self criticize their own driving skills a lot but they drive very well, they are very hard working, friendly and give their life for the family and take care of the elderly, the cops are friendly too. Despite gut wrenching poverty, you won't see people stabbing each other in the back or violence. The whole of Philippines is an enigma compared to rest of the world.

Oh there is violence, just be aware it can get ugly with certain Filipinos, don't be fooled by all the smiles, having said that if you're a pretty respectful, savvy and street smart person you're unlikely to have trouble.

Really? I haven't heard of that in years. But it's common sense that we shouldn't be arrogant in a foreign country.

There is a deep reason why filipinos curious about foreigner because it's part of our culture to know the person new to our place..we are so connected with one another in a community specially in provinces and mostly we are relatives living in one community. be thankful if one ask you because this will help you keep safe in our country PHILIPPINES.. be friendly and respect..

That's true for filipinos,we work for our family and if we have friends and neighbors needed help, that's automatic,we help. Coz we don't want other people prolong its hardship,we know how it was to be in a hard situation so why not help one another and spread love and kindness. What you give to the universe it would always comes back.

Its a different country if your a Filipino. Next time your in a restaurant and the staff is catering to you...look over and see if the Filipino guy can even get anyone to come over and fill up his coffee cup.

Filipino time 😂 Queueing, annoyingly being a westerner in philippines its easy to get annoyed with some things since we're so use to most things running smoothly like queues and getting the correct and relevant information when we need it, I recently enquired about something then travelling 15hrs on a bus just to find out the information was wrong and ruined my day 😢 wasted the time and money on the journey for nothing 🥺🤦‍♂️ it happens alot here 😂 it was very annoying this time because of the time and money i put into it but it was a beautiful scenic ride. The people are amazing and the culture too, I love it here but it does take some getting use to in some areas of the culture. Such a beautiful country and hospitality here is amazing everywhere you go people greet you, laughing and smiling being friendly and trying to be helpful

Filipinos are deep christians. Filipinos are God-centered.. obedience and faith is the key here. Cebuanos, in particular, are more spiritual.. we put or do things considering God first. That is the reason
    1. why the friendliness ( God gave inner peace)
    why the
    2. humbleness( following the footsteps of Christ)
    3. why the adversity resiliency (God given wisdom and understanding)
Family is important for Filipinos. We see family as our belongingness and most specially strength in times of struggles. Family is love.

You've got a lot of interesting insights gathered in a short span of time, very observant. About getting to know you, I think the Filipinos just want to know more about people in other cultures because a lot of us could only see foreigners in movies and tv and internet. So meeting a foreigner is an opportunity for us to learn more about other cultures. Those of us who traveled abroad to work also gain these insights. But those who cannot, chatting with a foreigner is good enough.
Besides, we get to practice our English. We don't shy away from foreigners. We chat with them no matter how bad our English and their English as well b/c in time we know we'll get better. Some even learn other languages like Hangul of South Korea just by talking to Koreans and K-pop.
Sometimes it can get in the foreigner's nerves when Filipinos seemed to stare at him all the time. It's just curiosity. African women like Nigerians and Kenyans sometimes freaked out when a Filipina approaches them and ask if she can touch their braided hair. Rest assured, the Filipina is just thinking if the braided African hair looks great with these African women, maybe I would look great having braided hair -- and they proceed to ask how it gets done.
There was a time when Filipinas working in Japan sported different hair colors. When the local Filipinas saw this, everyone seems to try it whatever color they fancy -- purple, green, gray, red, orange, etc.
Big trucks in an urban jungle became popular in the past because parts of Metro Manila can be flooded waist deep. So having such trucks, one can go through the city floods easier. They are not just for the countryside.

We’re not perfect but we’re just like anybody in other countries. It’s just that we’re culturally hospitable and kind and giving although there are times when we got abused. Visitors when we observed that they’re nice we’re very welcoming. But if we feel that you’re Hands-off then you’ll know we don’t like you. You know why we’re interested to know who you are? It’s because we experienced being colonized by different people from different culture and traditions. We were treat like slaves literally by Spaniards and Japanese. Not so much by Americans but still there’s that feeling of wanting or longing to be independent from other rulers. That’s why we fought for out independence from those 3 rulers in our country. We had very bad experiences from Spain for more than 300 yrs. From being free to being slaves in your own country? That’s unacceptable but we can’t do anything. We can’t fight their guns. We we’re easily subdued because we were the very opposite of our rulers. So, we got that habit of asking people we don’t know a little bit of who they are. Bottomline is we are what we are because of what we went through from different rulers. We just have to be accepted as we are in our own country but we are hospitable, generous to a fault, happy in spite of our difficult life, we’re sociable and very communicative because we survived by helping each other although there were a few who aided the enemies and sold us out and got killed or punished. Those were our forefathers’ experiences passed on to us so we can survived after them.

Again, not all Filipinos are like that. The ones that are in the urban areas and more educated are more like the rest of the western world.

For sure they are very friendly. Just don't give out to much information because there are also a lot of scams in PH. Also, don't start a business with anyone over there. You will lose it all.
But yes, it's a great country with wonderful people.
