@@huntersmith8062 who needs all that for a can of drink though? Why do you need to keep one can cold for that long? And why are you dropping beer down duck slides on accident? As pointed out in the video nobody is going to be drinking any can for long enough to reap the benefits of keeping it in a durable koozie.
I have the Yeti, Ozark Trail and Thermos. The Thermos is the best, it's the least obtrusive, lighter, easier to hold and fits in any cup holder. You also don't have to mess with unscrewing caps. It can also be found for 10 bucks.
You need to try this again without opening the cans to see if there’s any difference. Maybe the 10 hour claim is based on that. Like if you had your drink out with you somewhere and wanted to keep it cold without having a cooler before you actually open it.
I came here to say the same thing. The whole point of these koozies is to keep a closed can cold during travel, with the plan of opening and drinking the beverage at a later time. When he opened them at the start of the test, it immediately defeated their intended purpose.
@@pkwiva I wouldn't say the whole point. It might be a nice feature, but they definitely intend people to drink out of them. That's why they are sold in the same section as cups and bottles.
@@priceeubanks9341 I respectfully disagree. It's more than a nice feature. Keeping a closed can cold during travel is the primary feature of these metallic, insulated koozies. It's similar to a travel mug which also provides the same type of insulation. Even the brand name "Ozark Trail" implies that it's intended for travel. If someone plans on drinking a beverage immediately, they'll just drink it without the need for one of these metallic, insulated koozies. The secondary, nice feature of the koozie is to prevent your hand from touching the can. This helps keep the beverage colder by preventing the warmth of your hand from transferring to it, while also providing some added comfort and style. Now the traditional fabric/foam koozie on the other hand, is less about insulating a closed can and more about adding comfort to the drinking experience while providing a negligible amount of insulation. These traditional kinds of koozies are more geared towards drinking the beverage immediately, but they are vastly different from these metallic insulated koozies that are marketed for travel.
I'm more curious how well it would keep it cold in the sun on a 120f Arizona summer day. It'll turn a can hot in 10 minutes. If I could have it ice cold til finished I'd be happy. Curious which would perform best in that condition.
Have the yeti for a while now and it's great. Keeps my hand from warming the can, there is never any condensation on the bottom so I don't have to use coasters and it looks good too.
I have 3 of these. But used 4 of these. The yeti is worth the extra $1 because of the design. I also can’t stand the rubber piece and lost one of them. The yeti is a much better design and for the extra $2 I love the lid and shape of it. But they all do the same thing. You’ll be done with your drink before you notice one vs the other. Was really shocked about the foam koozie tho. I’m throwing all mine away after this 😂
Great experiment! Thank you. Here's something I hope you add to future similar video's, especially when the difference is negligible. For instance here, other than price, what other factors go into making a decision as to which you should purchase? I would add things like, how much each koozie weighs? What are their diameters (some are more comfortable in the hand than others). What textures are they, do they grip well in the hand? Do they have coated or rubber bottoms? Does "xyz" company offer them in various colors? Things like that. I sure know more about Koozies now than I did a half hour ago, lol
Tyler, you definitely need to do a abuse test on these. See how well they perform. Can test their drop resistance. Not totally destroy them and the do a temp test again.
This is exactly what I've found on the big double walled tumblers. We now own multiple Ozark Trail insulated tumblers because they work exactly as well as the Yeti. I really don't get why anyone would pay Yeti prices for products like this.
@@choccolocco People ignore the Ozark (walmart brand) because they associate the cheap price and that it comes from with Walmart that its not going to be good. I own an Ozark tumber, RTIC tumber, Ice Shaker. The Ozark trail does just as good as any of the others. When it comes to similiar products made in china theres a good chance alot of these things may even come from the same factory. It's just like the with grocery store brand stuff vs namebrand stuff. A lot of the namebrand companies make the grocery store brands stuff, the store just pays to slap their label on it. Think Kirkland from Costco alot of Kirkland products are made by namebrand companies
@@JoshThompson25 Yup. I worked at a warehouse years ago, the “hot sauce” came in 55 gallon drums by the truckload. We unloaded, made orders, and sent the same sauce to at least three different well known name brands. Of course they add some of their own “flavor”. I’m still using the hell outta that cooler, and it’s just as good as the yetis and orcas others have, and with this Alabama heat, all of us are still lucky to get 2 1/2 days out of the ice.
I always thought the point of the foam sleeves were just to protect your hand from the cold, prevent it from slipping out of your grasp, and stop it from falling over
I never thought of the foam can covers as being used to keep the drink cold. I always thought of them for keeping your hand from being cold, like the cardboard sleeve on a coffee cup
I've had an Ozark Trail, 44 oz tumbler, for 4 years now. It's beat up but even with the heat in Kansas being in the triple digits this past week and also working outside, I fill it with ice once in the morning and still have the same ice 11 hours later.
To get the 10 hour chill time, you have to start off with the ozark, rtic, and yeti from the freezer. If you freeze them, they last way way longer. Even with the coolers you do that, you have to chill the coolers, to get the maximum ice retention. Might give that a try and see if you get better results.
5:20 you mentioned there wasnt much point to have the foam one on there but you have to take into account the fact your hand would have been warming that can up while drinking it making it warmer without the foam.
Ya boy does. I'm notorious for getting a drink and sipping on it for hours. I normally grab drinks while I'm doing stuff so I just get distracted and forget to drink it.
Although the foam one didn’t perform well, in the real world you may be holding the can. The foam will both protect your hand from a really cold drink and protect the drink from the body heat in your hand. Holding the can it might perform better over the control at least for the time it would actually take to drink the drink.
I've switched to Brumates because I received one as a gift. The can version has a freezer puck in the bottom and accepts energy drink size cans without the puck.
We have one of these and they are really nice.....the frozen puck is good, but of course that only lasts for a few drinks before you're back to the equivalent of a regular stainless type coozie
A durability test would be great on those brands I don't expect yeti to hold up also what fits in a cup holder and doesn't fall over out of all of those
Can you try leaving the cans sealed in the coozie and then open the cans at the 5 hour mark and see if it kept it colder? Maybe it will keep your cans colder if you’re not ready to drink them right away. Like maybe you put it in the coozie inside your backpack and drink it later 🤷♂️😁
I had to sit here and question why these things exist for like 20 minutes. That’s when it hit me. like you said, you can ditch the cooler and just toss them into your backpack for a hike, or fishing. I’m gonna buy a couple of these and make sure I’ve got a cold beer and a cold mtn dew the next time I go fishing and the fish stop bitting after a few hours.
I can't imagine a situation where it's taking me more then an hour to drink a soda/beer so the cheapest one is the best option for the price. Not going to lie I'd pay extra for the anti-tip feature.
Loved the video. I would’ve like to see BruMate tested as well. However, I chill my Yeti in the cooler before I use it. Seems to help because the more you change out cold cans the better it works. I know, still irrelevant because it doesn’t take that long to drink a beverage.
I would love that. So many times has my mom bought cheap paper plates that just absorb the juices from meat or spaghetti sauce. I can’t stand a soggy paper plate, might as well just put your food on some paper towels. A test to see how much weight the plates can hold before buckling and dumping food everywhere and an absorbency test.
Hey Tyler, I have something I want to see you test out, I just heard that you can apparently sharpen a knife with aluminum foil, apparently att u do is get a piece long enough to fold around the knife and then swipe along the blade
The best can koozie I've ever used had these reusable freezable ice pack pucks you'd put on the bottom that'd also help keep your drink colder for longer.
I had yeti pressure cooker less then 2yr and manufacturer warranty was 3yr. I called them and they said we need a video and follow the instructions. The pressure cook doesn't heat up. Why the heck would they ask for vid? Only way to get a refund keep this in mind. Yeti product sucks.
I'd love to see you test coolers from similar brands! Yeti prices are absolutely ridiculous! Could start with the cheap styrofoam cooler and go up the the yeti!
You realize that same insulation that keeps your hand from warming your can and your can from cooling your hand also keeps your environment from warming your can.
I love my Ozark, got it when it and yeti were the only ones really on the market. The cups when holding ice do keep it icy for 12 hours or more. I've left mine outside overnight and still had some ice in it. 85h/75l
I admire him taking the time to stand there for multiple hours until he resumed back into checking with the koozies. However i would like the uncut version of the video of him standing there, staring blankly at the screen, peering into my soul.
What if you put the metal ones on the freezer first? That is what I used to do and they gain a light frost to the one I used and kept it cooler a Lot better. You think that would have any effect? Maybe a short followup in the future on that? Good job here and thanks as always for the info.
I second this request. I've always poured hot water in my coffee thermos like ten to fifteen minutes before I pour my coffee in to "pre heat". It should be the same principle.
I have all of these except the thermos. I use the frost buddy just because you can use one cooler for multiple can sizes. If it was not for that I’d have the ozark trail plus it has a bottle opener on the bottom of it. Great video thank you.
I have the thermos one that I bought at a thrift store for 89 cents. It works great just like the other ones, the biggest upside is with the design it can fit 16 ounce cans which the others can't.
Ever since Rtic and Ozark and all of the other brands came out, I heard rumors that they were all made in the same factory in China and brought over to the US (notice that none of them say made in the US, They say "Designed in Texas" or something like that). Obviously Yeti has a massive mark up on their products.
The only way I’ll ever own a yeti is if it’s given to me. Have the ozark rotomolded yeti knockoff, it works just as good as my friend’s yetis…..for a quarter of the price. Here, yetis are just a “status” thing, just another overpriced fad.
I don't have much experience with can coozies, but I have had a ton of different tumbler cups...while they all keep drinks cold about the same, I've got to where I will pay for Yeti simply because the are built heavier duty...I've had tublers hit the pavement and get pretty banged up, but the yeti ones tend to just scuff instead of dent...just my experience at least...great video!
Now I'm wondering if they they will stay cold longer if you refridgerate the koozies with the cans and then do the test again. To me the whole point of a koozy mainly the foam ones, is to keep my hand warm when I have a really cold drink like around freezing tempature, 1 degree Celsius. Or even colder like rum that was in a freezer.
Interesting video. I'd like to have seen one of those thick foam coolers included. I imagine it would have been very impressive, because they actually work great, and a lot of times you can get them for free since they are used for advertising purposes. Another one I would like to have seen be compared is the styrofoam kind, although I do think that the thick foam one would outperform the styrofoam one because they fit tighter.
I agree, the performance within the first hour is likely the only relevant measure for typical use. I keep my koozies in the freezer, not sure how much time it buys but seems to work pretty well. I'll have to measure the temp from putting the can in to finishing.
I bought a Yeti one used (I paid about $10 for it) and I use it daily. I try to keep my soda limit to two a cans a day so I open one in the morning sipping on it through out the day and it keeps the soda drinkable (I don't like room temp soda) sometimes over the course of 6-9 hours. Although after looking through the comments I may try cooling the yeti overnight to see if that helps keep it cooler.
The foam ones are more to minimize heat transfer from your hand. Aluminum is a really good heat conductor so literally anything on the can to buffer is all you need. Vacuum insulation is way too overkill.
Great video. Love watching you test products. Have you ever seen the an cooler thing with an ice pack disc insert you freeze then put in the bottom of the coozie thing?
The only ones I’ve tested is the foam one, and my new Yeti. And although I’m typically not a Yeti guy, I LOVE that thing. I’ve forgot a beer for 2-1/2 hrs in my 94° garage and I couldn’t tell the difference from right out of the fridge.
I live in AZ and often deal with temps 100°+. I was thinking about getting one if these. Now I know to purchase the cheaper one if I do. Thanks Tyler!!! I wonder if the travel mugs made like the koozies would perform the similarly?
The cloth koozie's best usage is to keep your hot hands away from the can. Most people drink their can within 10-15 minutes, perhaps a long as 30 minutes but that's probably an extreme. I can't see the sense in investing in a $25 Yeti koozie for a can especially. Although their insulated tumblers are fantastic (I opted for the $13 Cabelas variety instead.) Having the ability to keep a drink cold with ice OR a hot beverage like coffee while out on the road is a great benefit. I'm not a fan of canned beverages, overall.
Thank you for your videos. I appreciate your content. Your test was not as irrelevant as you seem to think. As to who would keep their drink cold for 4-5 hours... Many people will grab a drink from the fridge. Put it in their pack and leave the house. With the can in a decent coozie there will be far less condensation in the pack (helping to keep other items dry). Also, in a few hours, when snack time or lunch break arrives there will still be a cool drink available in the pack. I do something similar when fishing. I fill my Yeti style tumbler with hot coffee before I leave my house. Two hours later, I can sip hot coffee on the boat while heading out to the fishing grounds. It's a good test and the information is worth it.
Yea, I never understood these things and why they exist, until realization hit me while watching this. You can keep an unopened drink cold for when you’ve been hiking for 3 hours and want a cold soda or beer before making your way back to your car. No more cooler for me.
Interesting info mate! Interesting to see the thermos works as well as the yeti even though its only a single walled style. Ive been using them for years and they work well. I was given a Yeti as a pressie and its just too bulky to comfortably hold and just too expensive. Just got a Brumate for Xmas and yet to test it out but it has a smart idea of used a hockey puck shaped freezer block which you can slot into the base and the can sits on top so will be interesting to see how effective it is
I have the Ozark 30 ounce double insulated container and it keeps my drink pretty cold for a long time. What about testing the different brands like this one?
reason for wanting it to stay cold longer, the back up can. You know, the one you sneak in to the venue that doesn't allow you to bring in your own. Or the second half of your drive.
I believe, and I may be wrong, Ozark trail is a Walmart brand. I bought a little fixed blade knife for under 5$ from them and I was absolutely blown away by the quality. Thick, full tang stainless steel, and a perfect fit in my hand. Ever since then I have fully believed Ozark trail is the best budget brand out there.
Ive always used ozark trails thermoses n such and I love em. They always seem to do better than yeti when its really hot out. They also keep warm drinks warm longer than what my yeti could do. Never thought of buying any can koozies other than the foam ones tho lol.
curious...what koozie was the easiest to use? As in taking a can out and putting a new one in? I know with the yeti it can be kind of a pain in the booty
I have a couple of the Ozark trail cups and one of the thermos. They are fantastic and were much cheaper than Yeti. I mean the downside is you have to go to walmart to get them but everything has a trade off right?
It would be nice to test these on like a 100 degree day, I switched to toadfish or yeti while fishing. It never takes 30 minutes to finish a drink unless I’m fighting one for a while or helping someone out, the beer will be out in direct sunlight heating up.
The toadfish will be hotter because more can is exposed but it's only a few degrees. The anti spill is the best feature. My old man always said if your beer is warm your not drinking it fast enough
Hear me out- i dont know if this would make a difference but what if you put the koozie and can in the fridge??like if you planned to have to use it the next day.would one kind of help the other?
I've always preferred the thermos one. It's thinner but still holds temperature well if you're doing a project and don't have your drink in your hand at all times
I have the yeti version and they make these little things you freeze in the freezer that slides into the bottom of the koozie Then your can slides on top of the frozen attachment, keeping your drink super cold longer
I am from the UK where these can koozies are less common. In the way you did the experiment your final comment echoed my thoughts, who is going to have a can open for 5 hours, mine barely last more than a matter of minute's before I finish them. One thing you didn't check was how long these devices keep an unopened can cool, the only time I could see myself considering purchasing one of these is to keep a can cool until I open it, as part of a pack lunch perhaps
Really you should test this by taking it out in the sun on a day that is 106 like here in Northern CA. The koozies like the yeti Def will keep it colder over a period of about 10 to 30 min is all that really matters...but your right I would like the fish one for the anti tip
Great video test! Might i suggest, not opening them and wait 5 hrs to see the differences between control (unopened) and then open @ 5hr mark & check temps.
Enjoy your videos. I've also purchased a bunch of these coolers and there is one important thing you neglected to evaluate in your video. Most of these coolers are so thick that they don't fit in a cup holder, except for maybe the Thermos one. I have several of the Thermos brand in my vehicles and think it's the best, especially for the price.
Yes! I came here to say this too! Much thinner and more comfortable to hold, also you don’t have to keep screwing and unscrewing the plastic ring and losing it like yeti style!
I would like to see a second video on the other important info like comfort to hold, added weight, transportability ie foam can be put in the pocket when not using, speed of exchange, and other things that would have to dealt with at a bbq or party
There's no point honestly, except for the foam with transportability and weight, and the one with suction cups on the bottom, the Thermos is the most comfortable, quickest to swap cans, fits in cup holders, lightweight and low profile and depending on where you look, as cheap as the Ozark.
Tylr I might be wrong but try to pre-chill the vacuum ones in the freezer or an ice bath before conducting test. Should show clear winners, ps use salt to reduce temperatures of ice bath to below freezing
We appreciate the videos you do like this. If for nothing other than satisfying our curiosity. But gotta say I love it when you prove the cheapest version wins.

Wonder how much heat escapes through the top when the can is open. Would be interesting if you did the same experiment without opening the cans.
had the same thought
You’d want any heat to escape, that’s fine.
Cool stays low, so they don’t lose much out the top when open in my opinion.
@@ThisTall ahhh didnt think about that smart
You need to try this again without opening the cans to see if there’s any difference. Maybe the 10 hour claim is based on that. Like if you had your drink out with you somewhere and wanted to keep it cold without having a cooler before you actually open it.
I came here to say the same thing. The whole point of these koozies is to keep a closed can cold during travel, with the plan of opening and drinking the beverage at a later time. When he opened them at the start of the test, it immediately defeated their intended purpose.
I made the same observation, perhaps these would be ideal for a pack lunch or picnic
Could not agree more
@@pkwiva I wouldn't say the whole point.
I'm sure the results would be the same, just shorter. I'd bet the color would affect performance too.
My money is on the foam koozie performing the best with a drop. Maybe not the can, but if you drop your drink, it's probably going to spill anyways.
This is exactly what I've found on the big double walled tumblers. We now own multiple Ozark Trail insulated tumblers because they work exactly as well as the Yeti. I really don't get why anyone would pay Yeti prices for products like this.
Same for their roto molded coolers. Just as good, for a quarter of the price.
@@JoshThompson25
Yup.
Awesome testing, thank you. I was just looking to buy one of these and now I know which one to buy.
I always thought the point of the foam sleeves were just to protect your hand from the cold, prevent it from slipping out of your grasp, and stop it from falling over
It protects your hand from the cold by insulating the can. That same insulating insulates it from getting warm, just not that well.
I never thought of the foam can covers as being used to keep the drink cold. I always thought of them for keeping your hand from being cold, like the cardboard sleeve on a coffee cup
Exactly, but still a nice video
The only positive for the foam one for myself was never to keep my beer cold longer but to keep me from holding the cold can directly in my hand.
do the inversion what thermos keeps heat the longest ... more practical

I've had an Ozark Trail, 44 oz tumbler, for 4 years now. It's beat up but even with the heat in Kansas being in the triple digits this past week and also working outside, I fill it with ice once in the morning and still have the same ice 11 hours later.
Surprised to see another Kansan. El Dorado!
@@mouthwashlisterine2104 Not far from you. I live in a little town about 10 miles northwest of Wichita!
To get the 10 hour chill time, you have to start off with the ozark, rtic, and yeti from the freezer. If you freeze them, they last way way longer. Even with the coolers you do that, you have to chill the coolers, to get the maximum ice retention. Might give that a try and see if you get better results.
I have 2 Yeti tumblers. I’m goin to try this. Thank you
I had never heard the term Can Koozie before, all i knew them as were as a thermos

The fact that he never removed the spaghetti from his garage door, is absolutely classic😂
Naw, he re-applies it just before every recording session.
It's for scientific purposes 🤣
5:20 you mentioned there wasnt much point to have the foam one on there but you have to take into account the fact your hand would have been warming that can up while drinking it making it warmer without the foam.
Haha. Love it. Proof that the simple foam can holder is all you need. Cuz who is going to nurse a can of anything for more than 30 minutes
More then 10 minutes.. so why would I even buy that!
@@walterhorning6493 to each their own at the end of the I spose.
Ya boy does. I'm notorious for getting a drink and sipping on it for hours. I normally grab drinks while I'm doing stuff so I just get distracted and forget to drink it.
@@benstanfill363 same. But I never remember it. So I don't drink it. I forget for an hour then chug it
Hey, when I'm on my 6th can and start going on an old man rant about something, I want my beer to still be cold after my half hour speech.
If it takes you more than an hour to drink a can, you're doing it wrong..
I drink a can of beer in max 10 mins. I haven't got this problem. Damn, Tyler spends lots of time saving us money💸👍
impressive bro it takes me 25 minutes to finish one...
It's for those of us making an emergency beer run in the middle of summer and don't want our half drank beers getting hot in the car.
Come on down to Alabama, these days, a beer gets warm in five minutes or less.
Use a coozie, or drink faster, lol
I love watching these videos at .75% or .5% speed and just picture he's drunk and just doing his best. It's really good for a laugh
This is so random but this man should test the best paper plates from different brands
@@green7449 that’s perfect 👍
Coolers on sale has done the best tests out there already
The Toast shirt will never get old
I always thought the foam koozies were meant to make it so the heat from your hands don't heat up your drink.
And keeps your hands from getting cold
@@matthewduggan1378 Exactly!
You realize that same insulation that keeps your hand from warming your can and your can from cooling your hand also keeps your environment from warming your can.
@@floyd2386 not by much
I love my Ozark, got it when it and yeti were the only ones really on the market. The cups when holding ice do keep it icy for 12 hours or more. I've left mine outside overnight and still had some ice in it. 85h/75l
Whoever is reading this I hope you have a wonderful day
How do I be on the garage door
I admire him taking the time to stand there for multiple hours until he resumed back into checking with the koozies. However i would like the uncut version of the video of him standing there, staring blankly at the screen, peering into my soul.
He prolly played video games for his other channel
"I said I'd check in an hour. Well it's been about two weeks..."
The fact that you acknowledged that no one is going to be drinking a 12oz can for 5+ hours was incredibly smart. Maybe there is hope afterall.
Yeah, but wait, hold up a minute...that didn't require deep thinking at all.
You got a cold rainy day in July of 2022?😱
I have all of these except the thermos.
It also fits in cup holders.
“Maybe ten hours in a fridge” lmao 🤣
The foam ones are more to minimize heat transfer from your hand. Aluminum is a really good heat conductor so literally anything on the can to buffer is all you need. Vacuum insulation is way too overkill.
Would there be a difference if you cool the cooler? Like put the coolers few hours in the freezer, and then put the drinks in and run the test again
the 'cold, rainy day' at like 3:32 is what gets me- wouldn't that be nice 😅
Great video. Love watching you test products. Have you ever seen the an cooler thing with an ice pack disc insert you freeze then put in the bottom of the coozie thing?
The only ones I’ve tested is the foam one, and my new Yeti.
And although I’m typically not a Yeti guy, I LOVE that thing. I’ve forgot a beer for 2-1/2 hrs in my 94° garage and I couldn’t tell the difference from right out of the fridge.
It didn't go flat?
I live in AZ and often deal with temps 100°+. I was thinking about getting one if these. Now I know to purchase the cheaper one if I do. Thanks Tyler!!! I wonder if the travel mugs made like the koozies would perform the similarly?
I just always thought that the foam one was just to keep your hands from getting cold while you hold it! So I guess I learned something new today!!
That message from the editor killed me 😂😂😂
The cloth koozie's best usage is to keep your hot hands away from the can.
Just got a Brumate for Xmas and yet to test it out but it has a smart idea of used a hockey puck shaped freezer block which you can slot into the base and the can sits on top so will be interesting to see how effective it is
I use one lined with a gel that freezes and keeps my drink really cool. It wasn't all that expensive and works great.
Could you test them after pre chilling all of them in the freezer before slipping them on the cans?
I think thermos recommends pre-chilling the can cooler. Which is probably how they got 10 hours
Great video test! Might i suggest, not opening them and wait 5 hrs to see the differences between control (unopened) and then open @ 5hr mark & check temps.
Aren't the thermuses supposed to start cold as well?
Enjoy your videos. I've also purchased a bunch of these coolers and there is one important thing you neglected to evaluate in your video. Most of these coolers are so thick that they don't fit in a cup holder, except for maybe the Thermos one. I have several of the Thermos brand in my vehicles and think it's the best, especially for the price.
YES! The Thermos is SO much smaller and lighter than the others. I have an Ozark, a Yeti and a Thermos and the Thermos is the one I use the most.
I sometimes pre-cool my rtic one with ice water for a while before I use it and if I'm not going to open the can for a while
