3.73 gear is great. Ran it with a big block, 27" tires, TH400 in a 71 Camaro. All it needed was an Overdrive, even better with a second 0.76 Overdrive, sweet perfection !
373 gears all around great gears but that's just a maybe 355 sounds good also keep up good work.
68 Charger with a 69 Grille. I had a new 69 with 383 And performance axle package with a 3:55 rear gear with a 4 spd. If you drove 55, gas mileage was reasonable But , "I can't drive 55" ! So, Love this project, a dream car for sure.
That’s the perfect transmission for what you are building! Rec’d my gnarly t shirt in the blue, thank you! Looks even better in person
3.80 gears with 28" tall rears & the six speed for sure, I started with 3.55 was not good out of the hole. Changed to Motive Gears 3.80 so much better all the way through the gears. Love your channel, keep it up !
The body work is lining up great looks good and Danny is exactly correct the center will push out when the top and bottom are pushed in and up/down
All the hard work will pay off in the end, awesome job
Your gonna love that short throw shift, Quicker ⚡
It is nice to see the progress on Rum Runner......Great Job!!!
The Rum Runner will look sick, painted black.
It is so cool that you work on the cars along with your husband! ❤😊
Who's her husband?
Haven't seen her do any work....she's always half dressed...how can she lmao😂
jackass
Thanks for the order!
Go 60, that way you have a little insurance, that it will hold.
Great seeing some progress on the Charger. That Croil oil is good stuff. Thank you Danny and Olivia for the video.
💯👍👊
It's taking shape looks beautiful ❤
That 8 3/4" rear end will definitely break! No doubt about it! I broke 3 of them with a stock 440 six pack/A833 4 speed combo in a B-body on bias ply tires on the street. Awesome job on the Charger!
So ford 9 inch implant perhaps
@@HANZELVANDERLAAY Yes. Another good option
Yall are doing a fantastic job on rum runner and doing great work on the body getting rid of the rust keep up the great work can't wait to see it getting ready for the big block and the new transmission keep up the great work can't wait to meet yall at the swap meet
Consider the future of Rum Runner when it comes to what gear ratio...Lot's of Drag and Drive miles a 355 does make sense...If your 2,000 mile Drag and Drive is a one-time deal then explore other options to include the 373...Living in CA I see you taking it to lots of local events, beach, lower mile trips, date night, etc...As I already noted, think in regards of the long-term future then decide what gear ratio, that is, if it really matters to you both.
So glad you went with the " anti-theft " device! ( aka standard transmission)
Another good video, i hope everything goes smooth when you put the engine & tranny in.
You two are doing a amazing job.keep up the good work. yal work grate together
3.73 gears for the win!!!! The rear of the car is gonna look sick with the straight fenders, decklid, + new straight bumper filler. When you get the double eyeball brake lights shining its gonna be worth it! You gotta keep spending and get that dana 60...I'm gonna buy a few t shirts. LETS GOOOOOO!
I'm beginning to like y'alls channel more and more. Thanks
Good good luck with the rest of the charger💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽✌🏽✌🏽✌🏽✌🏽✌🏽
Yall just like I,wife and kids, they love being out in the shop with me and that's worth more than anything to me and it's so cool to spend time together ❤️ 😎
Windsor Ontario, Canada, watching love.Your channel. You guys are great
Looking really good ❤👍😁💙
I wish I had a mailbox that big 😂
Nice job
Kroil has been around for years, I used a lot in the early 90’s, works great. Smells good too lol
Liv & Dann: The 2 of you got it going on for Gnarly Speed Shop. Best wishes.
That is going to be a bad ass project
Great video and be safe work smart till the next time ❤❤❤
Excellent
Car is really looking good
Tack welds are made to be cut. Great job guys.
I like your video, and you guys are down-to-earth guys.
Sweetie Danny you 2 Don.t ever let the NEGS kill your optimisms that's what makes GNARLYS SPEED what it is your all a joy to watch keep it up and videos a coming
Really coming along nicely or gnarly! lol I think black paint and incorporate gold glitter stripes or pin stripes would look awesome! That trans is killer!
You two are great
Sweetie needs a 6 speed in that ol 56 also agree the charger needed that trec too
Great video . Charger is looking good . great trans choice , go with a Dana rear !!!
The 8 3/4 can be built to be strong enough to handle your engine! However the Dana 60 is the only way to go!
To remove rusty bolts try tightening them slightly first. This will stretch the bolt, hopefully breaking the rust bond. I use an impact wrench because it shocks the bolt and can break the bond also. You just have to go slow and steady and try not to snap them. A little heat from an oxy torch can help too. Most of the Hemi and 440 6 pack 4 speed Mopars used the Dana 60. Ford 9" however is easier to change ratios and is plenty strong!
Aloha. Try using a Couple paint Sticks for
Your Gaps between
Doors & panels. ✌️
I so love this car.
Enjoy Hawaii that's awesome. We love your station. Glad you got your 56 Chevy. Enjoy restoring it. So that's the name stinky cheis.
take a few screws, panels on for placement prep final weld
8 3/4 no way heavy car bb with lots of torque and a stick shift Dana 60 all day long chargers looking good keep up the good work
Kroil and heat for all those stubborn pain in the a$$ bolts/screws. Just found your channel. Sending some ❤ from back home in the Hammer! 🇨🇦 👍👍
Your channel was mentioned on dead dodge garage tonight live. About the work you’re doing to the 68 Charger. Jamie Atwood gave you a shout out.
I have the same trans and ratios in my 67 Camaro and I'm running a 4.11 rear gear with 25.5 inch tall tires. It's great on highway (2100 rpm at 62 mph) and the 0-60 mph acceleration requires only 1 shift
Great Project 👍🏼👍🏼. Try a 50/50 mix of acetone- atf fluid to break loose those stubborn rusted nuts/bolts.
With a 6 speed you could go with a 3:73 just fine.
One time at replace the quarter on a car, I had it on the rack. I welded it all up and when I set the car down on the wheels, the body twisted.
My comment: It's your car, your project. Good luck!✌
Using the Spicer Parts RPM calculator (there are tons of others too)
Your tire: 275 60 15s = 28 inches.
So the 3.73s are actually OK on the highway.
5th gear (0.8:1) gives about 2500 rpm @ 70 mph
6th gear (0.63:1) gives you about 2000 at 71 mph.
3:55 is better of course...see below...
The only reason to avoid the 3.73 rears is 1st gear will be like an old farm truck: 9.92:1 !! And with your massive 512 torque monster 1st gear might be a liability for hooking up on launch, and you might always want to start in 2nd on the street.
3.55 in 6th gear at 2000 rpm: 75 mph - pretty nice! And that big engine won't even need to gear down to pull from a 55 mph cruise...(55 mph in 6th would be about 1500 rpm)
Total 1st is 9.44:1 - still pretty high (anything over 8:1 is more than enough for any big block), so if you want to be greedy...you could go 3:23...1850 rpm gets 75 mph, and that gives you 8.59:1 total in 1st. More than enough for that 512!
Given all that, especially the fact that we are talking 512 cu in, 3:55 rears will give you a really great set up with no regrets and pretty good highway cruising, and still give you ridiculous burnouts!
Cheers!
Wow looks like it might need three cross members in a bunch of room cool😊
Keep the 8 3/4 rear end, use a 489 case and it will be plenty strong.
Dana 60!! You won't regret it. Nick from his renowned worldwide RUclips show, "Nicks Garage" up north in Montreal would certainly agree. He specializes mostly in Mopars. And besides, everyone will ask, does it have a Dana 60 rear-end? Great video guys Excellent essence. More and more I can't wait for your next show :}
If I were you guys I would go with a Dana 60 in a 390 gear ratio because of the engine and the tire sizes that you are running, for multi purpose use of street and strip!
3:55's.... You'll love it
Its looking great. My nemesis was GTX 440 torkflit with 410s ran mid 12s a 1/4 mile was just enough for me or he would've caught me 🤷🏽♂️😃
With a top-notch build like yours the Moser seems to be a no-brainer you mentioned you were going to Hawaii you should check out the big Island Hilo has a racetrack also and some cool cars as well
with the Kroil you need to use your hot wrench too .
Check out my cousins Kip with a blue turbo bug and my other cousin Ricky and his son Aaron turbo honda, i used to race there late seventies early eighties. The track is on the westside of Kauai.
You got that right about youtubing work taking twice as long. That charger is looking nice. So im a GM guy, butthe inner webs say that 8.75 rear will maybe hold 650 hp, not sure how accurate that is, but my guess is that big block is going to be knocking on the rear end limit. I coukdnt help but laugh when you guys talk about mpg for a 512 ci.but i know what you mean. Good video guys, God bless yall!
First of all first time to comment. Now the fancy trans you might need to modify the trans tunnel for a proper fit. Use 1350 u-joints in your 3.5 diameter driveshaft. The 8 3/4 will work if the housing number is a 489 it has a 1 7/8 pinion. With a good aftermarket 35 spline axle and posi track. Oh, Dana 60 are bullet proof and maybe a nice Moser 9” Ford as well. Moser for all your reared parts. ❤ what you are doing…👍🏻😎🇺🇸🏁🙏🏻
I would recommend you go with a Dana 60. I blew up my Cuda's 8.75 (489),(Hemi 4 speed) the second time down the strip. I'm running a 528 Hemi
I love your SHOW have a GREAT TIMEIN HAWAII
I think the 8¾ will be fine, as long as you don't dump the clutch and get traction. Personally, I'd upgrade to a Dana 60 now, and save the time and aggravation of changing it later. Plus, the driveshaft will be shorter with the Dana, so that would cost more as well. 8¾'s are good rear ends, but Chrysler put Dana's behind big engine stick cars for a reason.
I would put a 9 in rear end and 737 sending you lot's of love and happiness and blessings and love All of the videos sending y'all love from Enterprise Alabama God bless y'all
Dana 60 for the win!
Hi danny don't forget to soak them. K frame bolts with wd 40 or pb . blaster. and heat them with a torch .😮😊👍🏼🐵
3:08 would make this a great cruiser.
heat danny, heat up the k frame bolts let them cool down, heat them the next day and let them cool more lube take your time.
As time goes by my induction coil heater has become one of my favorite tools. Sometimes I even get excited when something is stuck because I get to use it!
Baby steps! 3:55 gears and put in the Mosher rear end. The 8 3/4 might handle the power, but if you can score the Mosher, that’s what you need. I would stick with the 3:55 gears as that is the best ratio for performance and still get some economy with O/D trans. You might get 1 more MPG with the 3:55 versus 3:73 or higher and that adds up on a long trip. It will still scream and lay rubber just fine. Panel alignment looks promising. Now get to work on all those spot welds!
The Spring Fling is a nice West Coast show, but no way is it the biggest Mopar show. Chryslers at Carlyle and Mopar Nats are both much bigger. Holley Moparty is probably similar in size to the Fling.
Need to set gear where you max out rpm in 1-1 for quarter mile then rest is gravy so if you shift at 6500 then set rear gear to mac out at 6500 In 4th gear wich is 1-1 with a 275 60 a 410 is perfect
WD40 does a poor job on breaking free rusted bolts, Danny. You need to use P B Blaster,. Heat the bolt or nut as hot as you can get it, spray some P B on it, hit it with a hammer and a drift, and try to remove the fastener. If that doesn't work, repeat again and again until your fastener breaks free. I was a technician for many years working on a bunch of rusty swimming pool equipment, and P B Blaster was the best stuff found for breaking things free. WD40 is for "Water Displacement" purposes, like spraying it in a water soaked distributor or applications like that. BTW, my vote is for a Ford nine inch rear end.
That is some bad ass oil I use it for everything.i gave 38 dollars for a little can where I live .it's worth it it's good stuff
..seems like those big chargers were more for the circle track..i think you would need about a 1000 horses to get that thing down the quarter mile in a timely manner....
I'm in Oahu. Don't currently have a hotrod, but down for a meetup
MOPAR Baby 👍👍😎
I would go with 3.73 or 4.10 you're got double overdrive basically. 4.10 you could start in 2nd gear lol.
Are you doing a total restoration on the 56? Just curious because it looks pretty rough but you are trying to sell the white 56 which looks beautiful 🤷🏻♂️
I would go with a Strange S60. By the time you rebuild the 8-3/4, you'll spend almost as much.
3.90 is probably a good year for that setup. Like others have said, that’s like a 2.46 with something like a 727 trans. Any less gear and you would probably never use 6th gear until 70 mph+
You can never have too many black t shirt’s.
Guess you could smack the panels on Tesla style, or like it looks your doing it. Properly! Choice of gearbox, manual is the cool one. Even if its more to do down down the strip.
It happens until you teach it not to you have to do it with tools 😂❤❤💙
Question: Does this Charger have torque boxes on it? I understand that 340s and 383s did not have them because there wasn’t enough power to twist the frame or do they say. If you’re putting 600+ hp in it you will need them. Just wondering. Nice to see the 🇨🇦 girl twisting wrenches.
dana 60 with the horsepower of the engine and the extra demand on the drivetrain
3:73 all day....Get that money.
Upgrade to the dana for sure. I wouldn't even risk it and have to spend the money later anyways.
👍👍👍
loved your video content today, cant wait to see future charger content
Dana 60 for sure
What color are you painting the Charger!!!!???
✌️🤙
Dana 60 for sure.
