Hey guys I'm a firm believer in oven cleaner for a degreaser,,,,,,the trick is get the motor or parts warmed just like a oven but make sure you rinse all the oven cleaner off really good,,,,,, love you r videos need to make more of them
Yes, the 455 uses the same ports, and those heads on a 455 with a RA III (224/228) or RA IV (236/241) camshaft will make over 530ftlbs from 2500 to 4500 and right around 540hp. Of course those heads on a 455 with stock pistons (flat tops) make around 11.3:1 which is race gas or E85 only (I run E85 in mine), pump gas will knock the upper rod bearings flat. Guess how I know. If you want to have a little excursion into why Pontiacs make unholy torque (to a chevy type) with factory parts, measure the distance from the throttle blades on the carb to the valve and compare it to the sbc. You will find it is considerably longer in length, which coupled with the somewhat small size and a venturi shape in the heads makes for a high velocity air/fuel charge. Pontiacs are designed to fill the cylinder as much as possible between idle and 5500rpm, the long high velocity ports are how they do it. Pontiacs have very good VE under 6000rpm. A larger shorter port is slow at low speeds, not much velocity with a big short port.. ie chevy small blocks. The short large port needs RPM to make power. Thats why the chevy will not make as much torque as the Pontiac unless you give it a lot more cubes and a much longer intake, like a tunnel ram or cross ram, and it still won't make the torque a Pontiac does. Thats why a Pontiac, especially a 455, doesn't want nor need 4.xx gears, they run best with 2.41 to 3.55 gears. A 400 can use a 3.73 if you increase the airflow, but usually deeper gears slow them down because they go through the RPM range too fast and the engine doesn't do the 'work' for long enough. If you put a single plane intake on it, and a 4.56 gear, you will run around a full second slower than a dual plane and a 3.42 gear. A 3500 or higher stall just wastes the torque below that you could be using to move the car. A big stall is for low torque engines to make it through the low RPM range faster. Liv's 70-73 Firebird (I cant remember the year of it) would run low 11s to high 10s all motor real easy with a mild 455 or 400 stroked to 461/467 turning a 3.08 to 3.42 gear, shifting at 5800, and you can daily drive it too, same with the 67 Tempest. A friend of mine built a 455 with 8:1 compression from 6X heads, 224/228 cam, cheap Summit Racing headers, and dropped it in a 1980 Firebird with a 2.41 gear, and that 3800lb Bird was running 12.40s in 2004. My 4100lb 70 GTO ran 12.60s with a 2.93 gear, 5C headed 455 with 8.8:1 compression, and with a 2004R and stock stall behind it got 19mpg highway. Factory intake, Qjet or 850 Demon double pumper, it ran the same with both carbs. I used a 4.10 rear to slow my 1979 Formula from 11.40s with a 3.42 to 12.0s so I didn't have to put a roll bar in it back in the 90s. It was done accelerating by 900ft, and it slowed the 1/8 mile time as well. 7.40 with 3.42 to 7.80 with 4.10, both running the same 28" tall drag radials. With the 3.42 it pulled the entire length of the track. It weighed 3750 without me in it, so right at 4000 going down the track because I was 250 while racing it. I have the top end from that 455 in my 65 GTO on another 455, this one has forged rods, all the others I mentioned have factory rods. The Bird has an aluminum headed 461 in it, and its around 2900lbs now, since it went on a diet. That port length is there so the Pontiac engine can move a heavy car with a highway gear, rather than zinging it like mad on the highway. The chevy guys back home hated my cars in the 90s, they didn't sound like race cars and I could get in them and drive 1000 miles from home without a worry. Loafing along in the 70 GTO with the 2004R and 2.93 gears, passing trucks going up the mountains to Asheville NC like it was nothing, not even downshifting. That was around 1800rpm cruise at 75mph. The water pump works great, and they last longer than the water pumps on chevys. I have 40 year old water pumps on some of my cars that get driven all the time in summer. The front cover has to be deeper because the camshaft has a plate holding it in (like the LS does) and the fuel pump eccentric is in there too. You don't have to drop the oil pan to change timing gears in a Pontiac, and you don't need a balancer puller either, they slip on and are torqued to 160ftlbs. Its a better design, and its lighter than the chevy pump too. That oil filter fiasco is because of the 67-69 Firebird exhaust manifolds. The 71-74 Ventura had log style manifolds, but headers make a good difference in power, you will notice it. There is a trick to getting the exhaust gaskets to stay in with headers, and its not really that difficult to do, but you need the right gaskets. Paper will not last long.. I'll show the trick for D ports when I put a 400 a lot like that one in my 72 Ventura later this month, or maybe in June. Also I run the small gear reduction starters, because I like compression and ethanol fuel. There is only one starter nose for Pontiac engines, the motors varied a bit, but the drives are all the same.
You guys rock. I'm sure your channel is gonna do well. But you're absolutely right. Watch out for the pervs. So glad I found the channel, we really enjoy it. Most days your channel just plays all day on my TV.
Another way to prevent vapor lock is to use a return from the carb back to the tank. With the Pontiacs the fuel pump picks up a lot of heat and the gas boils before it even gets to the carb. Another trick is using an electric pump away from a heat source. IV been wrenching since the seventies and have a lot of Pontiacs. Have a 75 TA currently.

Spacer on carb helps prevent vapor lock
yeah! I like the phenolic ones with the cool guy tapers for max velocity!!!
I had a huge problem with My TA could not use a spacer because it pushed the shaker high against the hood. See my other comment.
👍👍😎
"Traded the van for it, straight up. I can get 70 miles to the gallon on this hog"
❤👍👍
You upload the video I ges you didn’t have a accident cool cute donkeys
I see a good place for the new car shows ,,you could be putting on, picnic tables and grassy field would fit a lot of hot rods right in there for the gnarly car show, right, thanks BigAl California.
A creeper 👀 😂
How long before Liv wants to ride the bike for herself??
Olivia needs to learn to ride the "hog"! 😊
See something I like and it’s not automotive related
yep refrigeration man will make it fit...as in fuel pump install on the engine while its on the run stand.
👍👍👍
Apairantly California doesn't offer a beginner's course, be careful inexperienced people get hurt..
Sorry, I did get the new whitet-hirt yesterday . Mant comments a work today , thank you
That water pump design is straight up dumb. So many potential points for failure.
Teach Olivia how to ride the motorcycle too…that would be awesome. And then, if you both get the bug regarding motorcycle riding, then try cruising the PCH. I’m at a hot Rod enthusiast, and a motorcyclist myself, and I used to cruise the PCH on my chopper. The ride up deer Creek Road on a motorcycle is pretty adventurous as well.
You need an adapter to run a spread bore intake with a 4150 style carburetor.
We will always be checking you guys out, but I'm in Michigan, it's nice to see what's going on, but like Detroit, nowadays, to many bad guys to take from you.
might try mr clean to degrease. also vegetable oil breaks grease down. with scrubby
Best thing is good old gasoline and a brush..
@@robertbriggs4176 more ignorant fools conveying their basic lacking with basic 7-8th grade level science chemistry along with lacking basic cleaners and solvents ! 😞
👍🤓🤙👍🤙don’t let the dog out!!!!hehonky
You should’ve painted the water pump The same color as the motor so that they match
Hondas rule! Two up on a 150! Awesome!
Hey guys, this Pontiac really should have a Rochester carburetor on there.
That's a real turn off that you would not want to see any subscribers. Then you even consider shooting somebody. I know that's really not how you meant it but that really bothers me.
Olivia needs her own bike , watch the youtube, maybe take a riders course. It's really a fun time once you get comfortable and relax
You guys be careful on that scooter. Remember the dirt is way more forgiving than the asphalt when ya go down.
WHY YET ANOTHER AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION BUILD ?? They're ZERO fun to drive. It makes me sick to see such a beautiful ride as your '69 Firebird with a slush box behind that beautiful engine. What is there to do? Start the engine, shift into D then stare out the windows? They're so F''N boring!! At least with a Standard Shift you have a genuine physical connection to the car, something you can actually feel while driving it. Automatics belong only in Drag Cars or for kiddies that can't drive a Standard but think they can because.the actually got the clutch without stalling mommys 120 TQ shitbox, The millennials think that driving mommy's 4 cylinder 5 speed is the same as driving a big HP/TQ muscle machine. I'm Sooooo glad to see that (please forgive me if I got your name wrong) Teresa learned to drive a Standard Shift in her '56 with some pretty big HP/TQ. The smile on your face was priceless!
KEEP ON SHIFTING KID!!!!
All the little hiccups you're having? It's not just you two. My hiccups sense Friday. Broke a leatherman??? Spent $600.00 over the weekend and ended up with 2 dozen eggs??? Rebuilt a holley carb and the metering valve under the squirter some how fused itself shut.??? Among getting turned down trying to purchase tobacco??? I'm 56 yo 😊
I love the firebird that and the 65 GTO is my favorite Pontiacs other then a gto judge my God father was the top salesmen for peretti Pontiacs dealership here in Louisiana he bought a brand new 70 or 71 white presidential model trans am it had the bad to the bone 455 H.O.S.D high output super duty engine that car screamed each dealership only got one and he grabbed it it was white w with a blue stripe that ran up the center of the hood over the shaker scoop he let me take it to the football game and sock hop at my high school And I was only 14 years old with no license well I got busted drag racing that night and because the cop knew my dad they didn't give me a ticket or take me to jail he just wouldn't let me drive it until I got my license if you get a chance Google the Trans am 70 or 71 presidential model 455 H.O.S.D beautiful car. He was the best God father a person could have he died a few years later from cancer at only 34 years old I miss him.
OMG... out of business ?😢
Guy better get rid of that motorcycle don’t look too stable
Oven cleaner is very hard on Aluminum like that distributor.
The oven cleaner products are very high level alkaline, base; most lack basic chemistry [7-8th grad] science knowledge, principles ! 😞
