Seriously thought this video would be like 6 or 7 minutes, but realize I don't shut up....so there were quite a few books I didn't get to but I keep an updated list of book recommendations (including textbooks for self teaching) over on STEMerch so you can check that out here stemerch.com/collections/books . Also can get the floating globe you see behind me over there stemerch.com/collections/science-toys/products/led-magnetic-levitation-globe .
Thanks bro. You helped me major in electrical engineering and i'm loving it.
Sir a ques. that what is your current occupation ??
For a deeper dive into these subjects, I've been working my way through The Way of Analysis by Strichartz, Topology by Munkres, and Algebra: Chapter 0 by Aluffi. I've also started on Set Theory by Jech and Probability: A Comprehensive Course by Klenke but these are very formidable books. Another important book is Functions of One Complex Variable by Conway. For a starter on Special Relativity, I've also started on Geometry of Minkowski Spacetime by Naber.
@@TosiakiS Hey ! I just wanted to ask that Im gonna be a high schooler after promoting this year and I want to study physics and do some thing in that field . How much of what is required to be done to achieve something in the field ?
Any help will be very highly appreciated .
@@earthagrawal9264 You can jump in and pretend to be an expert by writing fancy complex-looking equations and you can successfully do that maybe even professionally because many won't know any better to tell the difference. If you're not into that, I at least recommend studying mathematical logic and proof theory, and Mathematical Logic by Kleene seems like a good title. After that, probability is also important because it describes incomplete knowledge, and for that, analysis is required.
Nice, some *light* reading material
lmao
@@One-tf7kr it’s True, that’s only shitty popscience
”I checked this one out weeks ago for a bit of light reason”
“This is light?!?!”
Intense stare
How could a branch of science be "shitty"? By definition, pop science are scientific concepts that are appealing and digestible to the more mainstream demographic. I'm not to sure what's "shitty" about that. Lol
@@tjcogger1974
Well "pop science" usually simplifies scientific concepts in such a way, that even the greatest moron thinks he/she understands it. In theory that's great, the problem is, that in practice a) this drives the dunning-kruger syndrome and worse b) quite often the outcome is so distorted that is has nothing got to do any more with the original concepts, or what is communicated might even be plain wrong.
Everyone: omg Einstein is the smartest
Einstein: omg Gödel is the smartest
In my head I said that as - "oh my Gödel is the smartest"
Meanwhile Gödel: Omg my nurse is trying to kill me. I guess I'm just gonna have to refuse eating anything and starve to death.
Einstein: Logic 10/10
imagine having Einstein as your fangirl
The smartest Person ever was of course von Neumann (who was the real star at the institute of advanced studies. Neither Einstein nor Gödel were, and didn't do any real science any more, but just lived of their former heroic deeds).
Einstein was of course incredibly tenacious when thinking everything through.
Gödel on the other side was just a crazed logician, like the weird uncle you kind of like, but rarely let out of the locked attic.
Good to see “How to lie with Statistics” is still there. I loaned my copy to a fellow student, about 1962, and never saw it again. Should be compulsory reading for all age 16+ students.
Q. E. D.
Dang, that's honestly crazy. Out curiosity, what was your major?
@@ivoryas1696
Physics.
5:50 "It talks about what Euler did, which is... basically everything"
I would recommend for anyone who is interested in engineering: Skunk Works: A Personal Memoir of My Years of Lockheed by Ben Rich. It is about building the u2 A12/sr71 and the f117. All three are revolutionary planes build by a relatively small group of engineers
Just ordered it! Thank you
Thanks!
I have just recently started reading and I was checking out your old vids for book recommendations. Glad you posted this!
I'm a simple man, I see STEM, I click.
i am a simple i see game i click XD
Stem??
@@I_killed_that_beard_guy stem (Stem, Technogly, Engineering, and Mathematics) also called STEM for short
@@smiley77777 oh thanks
It's really nice of you to make a whole video for recommended books.....really appreciate it!!
I’m doing my PhD in Math and I have never read any of these books although they are on subjects that I’m really interested in. Thank you for this video :)
From freshman year of bachelor degree to phd finishing, how many years?, may i know?.
me too
@@webdev8284 college takes about 4 years, depends where you are from in some cases. From there on, your graduate studies duration can take anywhere from 4-7 years. The duration of your graduate studies depend on your background, your selected area of research and the country that you are doing your phd in (for example in the US you will have to do some TA duties most likely and this adds up to your workload). In the US (at least) it also depends on the graduate program you are in. Some of them have requirements for you to take classes (lots of classes!) other might give you more workload for your TA duties etc. From what I can tell, the most reasonable estimate (including your master's) the graduate school takes about 5.5 years, but you might graduate at 6 because you might want to take some time to apply to jobs.
I think my answer is too detailed, haha. Hopefully, I answered your question :)
Wow man i can't study that much
@@I_killed_that_beard_guy i still love you
I am following you. I have been wanting to get into stem. Finally my desire and the opportunity synchronized here on you as the beginning of my journey. Thanks for he library list.
Zach the leading string theorist in my uni has a bachelor's in EE
I was just looking for STEM books! Thanks ZAAAAACHHH
9:20 I really liked your video about how easy it is to lie with statistics - it gave me a new perspective on the topic. Might look into this book
Thanks a million... you may not realize it but your insights are most valuable to some of us who are struggling to manage time to read the best stuff thats out there
I was totally disinterested when you got to the business books (just math for me) but I had to stay to the end because your passion for books held my attention. I appreciate you, thanks.
I’ve been waiting for this video for months now. Thank you
I also like to invest in sectors rather than specific companies... Maybe it's a STEM thing. Thanks for the recommends Mr. Star. I built a business that died three years later and I'm still trying to figure out what I want to do next. There's so much you can do for money, getting focused seems to be the hard part, at least for me.
In Dutch high school, we have these two tracks for math, one for STEM and one for statistics
I read Physics of the Future by Michio Kaku! It was one of the books that introduced me more to Nanotechnology and Quantum Computing.
Thanks, I definitely needed some STEM book recs. I just bought your first recommendation, "When Einstein Walked with Godel", using the affiliate link.
Zach: "So people are dumb, right?"
Me: "hehe earth in the background go brrr".
Gosh darn your a smart and inquisitive dude Zach. Wish I was this outgoing and made the good choices in life you did.
I was just staring at the globe the whole time lol
Zack, I like your obvious enthusiasm for math and mathematical ideas, both new and old. Something I have been exploring recently is base twelve geometry, something that seems completely off the radar for most people. There is a type of dodecagon that exists on the base twelve coordinate plane that no one is aware of because we all use base ten. I find it interesting that if we all used base twelve we would be aware of this shape. It has a relationship with the circle that opens up new avenues of exploration. I made a video about it called Base Twelve Pi. Someone in our past knew about it because the geometry is hidden within the design of our numerals as well. Lots of interesting stuff. Now I just need to inspire people to check it out in order to get some feedback.
sounds cool but i'm not willing to give up 'a' and 'b' for this. i need my constants man
Very interesting list indeed. I would add a few recommendations, if you allow me: The Book of Why (Judea Pearl), Euclid's Window (Leonard Mlodinow), from the top of my mind...
Nice Recommendations! Infinite Retina sounds like something I'm gonna get as soon as possible now!
Webull sadly doesn't support my country but I guess I'll be fine without it :P
just bought the infinite retina because of this video. looking forward to it. thanks for sharing Zach.
what happened
Thank you so much Zach, pls do more videos about engineering.
just stumbled across your channel today and I'm loving all your videos!!!!!! Be it maths videos or funny videos, they're all so good so please keep making videos
Not explaining the big picture or why you're evening learning a topic is true of nearly every math course I've ever taken!
Holding the book in a manner consistent with the focal field of the viewers would help us to read the titles.
Could you do one of these again? Very interested to see more recommendations!
Amazing. Zach you are the man
Godel Escher bach: an eternal golden braid is another must read.
You, Zach and Andrew are bascially the three musketeers of pop-STEM on RUclips
@@ShadowZZZ for good reason, I want to have a RUclips channel like them ;-;
@@yousifabdulhussein post a first video. no matter how bad it is everyone starts with a first video. I hope you make a channel talking about STEM stuff you love.
@@thejagtimes You know what I’m gonna do a video on a math topic I love as soon as I get home.
@@ShadowZZZ Definitely not pop-STEM. They all do real math/physics/engineering and present real knowledge without dumbing it down for us like those who do "pop-STEM."
Gödel isn’t pronounced like Goodell (NFL commissioner), but more like gOH-dil. If I’m not mistaken, the native German pronunciation is something like gER-dil because of the ö, but I defer to Flammy in those matters.
High school mathematics is divided between calculus and statistics In the Netherlands.
wow!
Yeah its basically integration vs probability for 3 years
@@sanderkronemeijer9027 I think they shouldn't be divided, especially if you look at machine learning.
My high school in Canada had it's math system as you needing to take advance functions or applied math for grade 11-12 and stats/calculus were additional math courses
could you please do a video on "What is biotechnology engineeering?"
Zach do a short review about Logic and Set Theory :D
I read "Algorithms to Live By" and I'm not taking computer science or anything. I highly recommend reading it, as the topics cover plenty of normal life scenarios such as optimal scheduling, sorting, and predictions, and the topics are explained using good examples that are easy to follow
Thank you Zach
ThankYOU!
This one talks about mostly what Euler did, which is everything
XD
that "trivial" shirt is giving me Vietnam flashbacks to lecturers that speak at Zero Punctuation speeds
BTW, Rudy Rucker is also an excellent science fiction writer, and considered one of the pioneers of Cyberpunk.
Make a video about how to enter the space industry, like whether should we get a degree in aerospace or get a degree in mechanical engineering. Ohh and whether is it possible to get a master in aerospace by having a mechanical degree?
Man that was smooth😂
real nice recommendation 👌
You're looking healthy Zach. 👍👍
Hey sir big fan!
11:30 is it just me or does the cover of the book look exactly like that spinning globe in the background
Hey Zack , do you have any STEM books you Recommend for someone getting into reading? -Thanks!
Enjoyed the video.
I love this Zach
I like the other one
Come one, please put the emphasis on "o" in Gödel! It even has the double dots!

Can you do a video on engineering physics
I am a business student but in middle school, I had mostly physics, mathematics, and chemistry. Are there any books you would recommend for someone studying business to be able to communicate and understand engineers or other Scientific educated people?
Good question 🤔
Read " Galileo's Finger " by Peter Atkins. All foundational ideas in Science for laymen✌️
can you plz make a vid about nuclear engineering
Emperor's New Mind by Roger Penrose is a good one if you're an abstract nutter like me.
Hi
Have you ever read or know a book, that contain patterns or method of decoding one self of one existence?
Let say, there are series of questions(psychology), you need to answer, then go through a process of system(philosophy), finally have you( the-reader) analyze your input from the questions you had just answer using the system,
In conclusion, you unlock a series of patterns of your own purpose and creation of yourself?
If you are a deep-thinker, you can even see your own destiny.

Hey! So I'm about to start my b.sc in computer science and engineering. I have a biology and chemistry background - didnt do physics after 10th grade- so are these books appropriate for me? Or are they too advanced? What do you recommend for a beginner?
A lot of Michio Kakus books are great and require no prereqs. Very thought provoking
Pls could anyone recommend me books about chemistry?
Hell yes the millionaire fast lane is easily the best business book that hardly anybody talks about. I think it's because the title is kindof bad, but it's honestly the best one I ever read.
