And many still don't know. Just heard somebody on my local radio explaining it and he said at the end of the first period there's a 2 minute intermission and then they go again. Huh? Where did he get that from? It just goes to the next quarter like in a normal game. When they came out for the second coin toss that's what the referee said, gentlemen we are starting a new game.

@@imonyourside8376yeah I didn’t know that either even Tony Romo was confused on why the Chiefs weren’t calling a timeout when time was running out during OT
Brock Purdy can be one of those Dynamic players, He used his legs a lot in college, and was very effective, I 🤔 thought he could use legs more in the super bowl , my opinion they ran ball a lot more in 3 rd Quarter.
I agree with Dan. I felt the same way, like he’s trying to make the quarterback the star. Like with Matt, Ryan, Jimmy G and now Purdy. I was saying run the ball in the Atlanta game. I was saying run ball in the first Super Bowl. And the same in this Super Bowl.
Steve doesn't know the new NFL OT rules. You can't end the game by scoring a TD in OT like the old days, both teams will have a possession. It is the same as college football and usually you would defer.
Plus, if you don't defer and there is a pick-6 the game is over because you had possession then the other team had a possession with the INT and ran it in and it's over. If you defer, you know you will get the ball and if the other team had a score you would know what to do. If they had scored a FG you would know you have to at least get a field goal to keep the game going. Better to defer
I think a lotta people were confused on the postseason overtime rules last night, including Steve. Maybe Dan was confused too since he didn't say anything to correct Steve.
In defense of Reid, he coached in the NFC East when it was a much better division than the AFC east for many years. I’m a Giants fan and always thought he was so tough to play against. He’s got to be on the Mt Rushmore of coaches now.
Steve’s spot on, basically football as usual old timers know it is history now, it sucks somewhat now, these QB’s running so much, much rather see a crafty passer! Any young buck can drop back and run the ball…
What this Championship/smart experienced MAN is saying is that the league has made it easy to drop back, scan the field, take off running knowing you cannot be physically hit...without consequence. Defenders aren't allowed to be aggressive imposers and earn big defensive awards. I find it hard to say it's a man's game anymore
He just lost a lot of it because he didn’t learn WTH is going on before answering questions about it… EVERYONE was talking about the new rules, how tf could he not know???
Patrick Mahomes make "drives" like Elway's vs Cleveland and Montana's vs the Bengals in SB23 routine and easy. Today’s defenses really don’t stand a chance. I miss what past defenses could do. At least the disparity in the NFL between offense and defense isn’t as lopsided as it is in the NBA now.
That’s a fair question. The O line is atrocious. They seemed confused and out of sync for a team that has played together all year. The 9ers need to invest in the O line. Purdy will NOT be successful until Lynch and Shanahan realize this.
In Kyles defense the 49er's defense needed a rest. If the Chiefs got the ball first they would have scored for sure. The injuries really hurt them also.
Then maybe he could have said that but he didn't, he went on about wanting the advantage for the third drive if there was one which seemed a little silly.
The problem with this popular national media narrative that Shanahan didn't run McCaffrey enough is that they weren't paying attention to how gassed and beat up he was late in the game. 23 rushes for 80 yards, and many of those yards were 6 and 8 yard chunks early in the game. The Chiefs had slowed that down by the second half. The idea that they could have run CMC 30+ times and had that produce anything other than diminishing returns is foolish.
Steve kind of Salty today......I like it. He knows what's going on though.......you can't win today's game, playoff's and Superbowls as a pocket passer only.

Steve was sending Joe Montana some shots there in the back half of the interview. Said there was no qbs from the past that could run for 60+ yards if needed in a Super Bowl. Montana ran for 55 yards and a touchdown on 11.8 per carry in the 1984 Super Bowl. He averaged 26.25 rushing yards per game over his 4 Super Bowl appearances, which is 420 rushing yards over 16 games. Also could’ve said a guy like Randall Cunningham, who was a dominant dual threat in the 80’s and 90’s. Arguably the most physically gifted qb to ever play. Imagine if guys like Cunningham with their skillets played today, he’d definitely be better than lamar Jackson.
He didn't say that. He said there are "not many" QB's from back then who could run. He named Montana as one of them who could and when asked to elaborate said, "He can spit out some yards, no question. He can get it done. Absolutely."
Shanahan is the guy in the Seattle-Patriots Super Bowl that doesn't give it to Marshawn at the 1 yard line, but tries to be an offensive guru and throw it in (only to be picked off).

Steve Young is one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time. However this was an interview where I pretty much didn't agree with him or his interpretation.
Kyle is delusional. When asked about the 2nd half, he said they didn’t get away from the run, they just didn’t stay on the field. Seriously? 8/9 passing plays coming out of the half. Mahomes got 5 possessions in the 3rd alone because no first downs and topped off with the turnover on punt.
With a 10-3 lead and a ruffled Mahomes throwing that pick in his own territory. You gotta pound the rock there with CMC and make Mahomes pay for that Int. It could have been 17-3 with all the momentum
2 perfect ones at least. One in the endzone to Deebo(which his arm was actually held on too but no flag) and one to aiyuk on the sideline. Also Deebo dropped a short pass towrds the end and Aiyuk false start. Why tf is a receiver getting a flase start? So many fuck ups. Shot themselves in the foot too many times.
Interesting that Steve Young did not know the overtime rules. Neither did his team. The Chiefs talked about the change to Super Bowl overtime rules during training camp in July. They knew the rules the 49ers didn't that's one of the reasons the 49ers lost. More specifically, there was no way to keep Patrick Mahomes off the field by taking the ball first in overtime and scoring a touchdown. The rules are that both teams will possess the ball, unless the team on defense first scores a defensive touchdown.
Yeah, I know its easy to find scapegoats in a loss, yet I don't understand the niner thinking. Your two most explosive weapons are McCaffrey and Samuel. So they quit giving the ball to Christian in the 2nd half. McDuffie did a good job taking away Samuel as a threat, but SF could've done what the Chiefs did with Kelce. Neutralized in the 1st half, he came back strong in the 2nd after KC started putting him in motion to give him a little 5 yd. space. That and maybe a jet sweep or two, but Deebo became a missing person.
The reason the niners took the ball in overtime is because the defense was gassed and two dbs were hurt at the end of regulation. Shannahan said that’s why he took the ball and he was right in the situation.
Dan, why didn’t you correct him on the overtime rules straight up???
