    I was able to push 20lbs of boost through my full bolt on MINI with the stock S turbo using a fairly aggressive stage 3 tune from Malone Tuning. The car performed pretty good, but it did fall on it's face in the higher rpm band. When I upgraded to the bigger Airwerks SX K03 I had to take the boost down from 20 to 15... You would think thats a "bad thing". Absolutely not! That Airwerks SX K03 is absolutely crazy! Just like your S42 I do not have to down shift into 3rd for a pass... 4th will do just fine! The 60-120mph pick up is freaking incredible. If your not careful you can easily... EASILY... Be doing 140mph. Like I was when I was racing an 8 series. It scared the living s### outta me when I realized just how fast I was going in "mid-day" traffic (absolutely stupid of me)! Your MINI will be an absolute BEAST as your S42 is bigger than my SX K03! The guys at Outmotoring (where I bought my K03), Malone Tuning and the BorgWarner technician explained that I could easily get 300hp out of my FBO MINI with an aggressive tune. With me not having a Meth/Water set-up yet I am currently taking things easy (only 15lbs of boost). I really, really wish I would have found you before I started my build. If I had known that my stock internals could handle the JMTC I would have definitely gone with that vs my K03. Now when I decide to take the leap and begin work on my internals I am gonna have to upgrade to a bigger turbo. Thats been the plan all along, but knowing I could have started with a bigger turbo to begin with would have saved me $1,500. I'm rolling in a slightly weight reduced '10 Clubman S and the experience I get from my build is ridiculous and something that I did not expect... I know with your build the experience is taken to an even greater level! What I freaking love and I mean LOVE is the sleeper aspect. My MINI gets overlooked constantly. Because it's a MINI no one messes with and I usually have to be the "ass hole". The look of surprise when my Clubman does what it does is priceless. Of course there are a ton of big ole V8s and V6s that my MINI can not take... In a straight line... MINIs are built "For the CURVES" and I have completely dog walked the biggest of V8s and sleekest of V6 beasts on the back roads. Thats with my Clubman... Your S coupe however is a whole different story. We don't have a huge modded "MINI' community in Louisville, KY. I do not personally know anyone with a tricked out MINI to compare mine to. Mine is the only one I have ever experienced. I'd give anything to be a passenger in another tricked out MINI. When you finally upload your new tune, please, PLEASE do a vid (if possible, I know your busy) on what that the tune covers (boost, shift points, air/fuel ratios etc). I'd personally love to see a vid of you ripping the mountain backroads! I'm not to keen on the whole "pop-n-bang" tunes. Running my car "unnecessarily rich" just doesn't sit right with me. Although my exhaust set-up is completely catless, the Magnaflow system is fairly tame. It's not crazy loud, but just loud enough (keeps my car "sleeping"). The FORGE analog BOV is loud and if I push all the way through the power band it will stutter. The SX K03 turbo makes a very decent "hisss" that I am very proud of. Combined with the BOV the car sounds extremely aggressive when I get on it without being overly loud and annoying. I am very curious about what your beast of a MINI sounds like. It's gott be music to your ears! I am working on a FB profile strictly for my MINI that I will use for your DIY FB page. I do have a few issues that I need answers for, plus I am looking forward to seeing all of the other MINIs that will obliterate my relatively tame build! Keep up the awesome DIY videos!

    First of all, Thanks! This is a reassuring video because I just pulled my engine out on Saturday to forge the bottom end (pics on your Facebook page). I’m installing a JMTC S42 that I bought a few months ago. RPM Power Management (Canada) also did a stage 3 tune to 22psi and I’m installing water/methanol injection. I’m doing this all in one step to a stock S model so it should be a pretty noticeable difference. Intercooler, cyro cam chain kit, catless downpipe, Turbosmart 60/40 BOV, AEM intake and LSD are some of the other mods I’m doing at the same time. After separating the engine/tranny I inspected the clutch and yeah, it’s needing one. Do you think a stock clutch is good enough or would you recommend something else? I like the stock clutch feel but I also want something that will last a while with the extra power. These cars are pretty fun to work on. Keep making videos! It’s nice to see what you’ve done when I’m doing allot of the same things (except the bottom end mods that is). 👍 Do you have a LSD in your tranny? If so which one and how do you like it?

    • @ProjectMini
      @ProjectMini  3 года назад

      I think the oem clutch will hold but if you’re doin to replace it anyway you might as well upgrade it.

      I’ve had it for about 45k miles and do frequent spirited canyon drives. I used to be able to hear the turbo spool but now it’s silent and the car feels like it is struggling to accelerate like before. Edit: it was just a pinched vacuum line smh the turbo is still holding up!

    I've been thinking of getting Mamba turbo for my R56..
    I really can't afford a $1400+ turbo but my other option is the Rev9 FM21...I heard the Mambas are better quality than the Rev9. Do you have an insight?

      @mostafaakram4735 Well I've used Mamba for years in fact I have one on my Turbo VW Bug pushing 28psi but currently set @ 14psi for 300whp. And it is only using oil to cool it. It's more reliable than the Garrett that I was using as it failed. I'm also using a Mamba on my Mini Cooper S. I have nothing bad to say about Mamba turbos IMO they work.

    JMTC turbos are pretty bad. seals started to leak less than 6 months and 7000miles. Only reason i found out about it is because i went for an upgrade. Would not buy ever again.
