It's funny, I was friends with Denny Brooks on Facebook, and complimented him on this beautiful song, and he almost took it as an insult. I am guessing that his career didn't live upto expectations. Regardless, very beautiful song.
@@johndoyle2429 I think it had more to do because he got a lot of recognition from that song, and it literally was the opening song of two movies. So, yea- I kindly complimented him, and he just made a snide remark & then nothing after that
I watched the film totally by accident last night. As soon as I heard the piano and Denny's wonderful gentle voice I was hooked. We have no way to know how many people who would love the song will never hear it, unless a friend tells them about it or they find it by accident. A wonderful posting. This version has an extra line that isn't in the intro to the film or the credits at the end. I'll take all of them I can get. Thanks this made my day.
Oh yes, a very beautiful song indeed, it could have been a massive hit if released as a single; what a shame it's so rare. Denny's fine voice reminds me somewhat of Harry Chapin's.
It’s one of my favourite films I saw it the first week it was released in the UK in 1977. How little did I know then what the film would mean to me later in life with my experiences in life. Thank you for sharing and making this.🇬🇧🇺🇸🇬🇧🇺🇸
A brilliant song and a brilliant film I saw it when it came out in 1977 and still love it there is quite a special meaning for me that props only people that have served in the armed forces and their families would understand 🇺🇸🇬🇧💂
This songs on "The Ninth Configuration" movie also. Most likely the saddest song with a knowingly false hope of finding or going back to a place and time that isn't there anymore. Which makes it more sad. A great song tho and inspiring to those that have not lost hope. Even after u lose all hope, always remember u can and will find it again. This song and Blue Bayou, songs that make u think there's a place where life will be perfect
This song really depresses me sometimes. I grew living in Houston and San Antonio. San Antonio was my favorite. The depressing part is how different things were back in the 70's and eighties. Most people here aren't even Texas born these days 😞.
You should watch Rolling Thunder. Even though I'm 46 I had never seen it until this year and it's one of my favorite films ever. It has the same writer as Taxi Driver.
That's true, however those who hear this will be in for a real treat! I played a newsman when these guys (Defoe and Jones) got back from Nam. Beauty in simplicity!
Even though I really love the entire film (I'll just get my gear... Let's go clean em up") the opening sequence and this song are my favorite part, just takes me back to a time most dear to me.
$ 100. 00. GODDAMN Darling I wanted to rent ya not buy ya ! Tommy Lee Jones to hooker . PRICELESS ! What acting ! Phenomenal actors . phenomenal movie ! 666 OUT
Knots landing actor William Devane name comes up before Tommy Lee Jones in the film. That wouldn't happen now. But to be fair William Devane could have been a Hollywood A-lister star too like Tommy Lee Jones. William Devane if notice has a pit Jack Nicholson about him, but not as good as him. Anyway look William Devane is a good actor.
What a good movie !
Just watched Rolling Thunder for the first time and man this song is amazing.
I would say this is one of the best revenge films of all time.
AMEN!!! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I would characterize it as a "buddy/revenge film" which makes it even better.
Such a great and simple movie. Not expensive, but the story is solid and you really cared about characters. Hollywood should take notes.
Exceptional, character-driven film.
This song was also used in the movie The Ninth Configuration
OK
That’s what brought me here.
Anyone know who wrote the song? I saw both movies, and I knew Denny Brooks my whole life. Lovely Man. RIP
@@dearlydepartedtours458 Barry De Vorzon, the guy that made the music score for Rolling Thunder. His writing was uncredited
As much as I'd love to see Schraders fully realized version, I still love this film and song.

He must sound cranky so. I say you weren't friends after that on Facebook with him. All you said that you like his song.

I SURE DO miss my Mom as she was back in 1977. Rest In Peace Mom - until we see each other again. 🙏🙏🙏🙏
I did basic training in the Air Force in 1984 in San Antonio. This song brings back so many memories.
Just watch Rolling Thunder this morning, for the 2nd time. One of the best movies ever.
Great Movie. William Devane will always Greg Summer in Knots landing. Tommy Lee Jones will always Lt. Gerrard in blockbuster film The Fugitive for me.

Yes, I agree I just watched the last hour. Great voice.
Also similar to John Denver, who he sang with. Denny was like an uncle to me.
One of my favourite films of all time.
Absolutely 💯 Primecut with Lee Marvin and Gene Hackman is also awesome.
thanks saw movie when it came out always sent a chill up me
that ending as they walk out and the song comes up
I've been looking for this song everywhere. Thanks a bunch, you may only have a couple hundred views, but I know we all appreciate it.

Saw this film today and didn't know Quentin loved this film. He's by far a great director that made some great films.
Beautiful song

Was this a made for TV-MOVIE or The big -screen movie?.
Great movie
The song kind of peaters out at the end. It really needed another (3rd) round of the Chorus!

I am not even from US, but this is definitely one of the saddest songs I ever heard.
Who cares if they weren’t born in Texas. People are people
haven't seen Rolling Thunder, but I heard it in The Ninth Configuration, which is amazing
great song and great upload

Denny Brooks …..Sublime 🍀🍀🙏😎✌️
"its time, boy."
great song
great exploitation cinema
The Ninth Configuration brought me here
That's true, however those who hear this will be in for a real treat! I played a newsman when these guys (Defoe and Jones) got back from Nam. Beauty in simplicity!
No offence, can correct you. It's Devane not Defoe. Your mixing two actors with each other. William Devane and William Defoe.
Hey, thank you Woody Anders! Yes, the theme song was great.
I only watched the last 45 minutes of this movie. It was a great movie to "Get Even." Love the song, "San Anton"
Thank you Kermode
very nice song by denny brooks :)
Cool song
This was beautiful. Thank you.
beautiful
One of my top 25 movies. Up there with Rocky, Network, Thelma, Dead zone, taxi driver, The Godfather, Marathon man and Dolores Claiborne.
Great song and #Movie
Super film que je viens découvrir
I miss my San Antone...
What I liked about this revenge film was that it was supported by real actors which makes a world of difference.
Even though I really love the entire film (I'll just get my gear... Let's go clean em up") the opening sequence and this song are my favorite part, just takes me back to a time most dear to me.
The song was used pretty effectively in the beginning of The Ninth Configuration as well in my opinion but it'll always be Rolling Thunder's first.
Love the movie ! Does anyone know how to find any tutorial to play it on piano? Music sheet or something?
Liked the photo of him having his hand mulched by the waste disposure...really flattering!!!
+Stephen Riley but, man, those teeth. :)
many people cry at the end of movie
I enjoyed watching Automatic Slim get his comeuppance.
This is a terrific song, sung with great emotion by Denny Brooks. Please correct the title; it's SAN ANTONE
I miss how things were in 1977. 😢😢
You were hotela then, Lauren.
Reminds me of the Eagles' "Take it to the Limit."
$ 100. 00. GODDAMN Darling I wanted to rent ya not buy ya ! Tommy Lee Jones to hooker . PRICELESS ! What acting ! Phenomenal actors . phenomenal movie ! 666 OUT
I did a fantastic tribute to a great film 🇬🇧🇺🇸🇬🇧🇺🇸🇬🇧🇺🇸💂
THIS SONG BRINGS CHILLS TO MY SPINE OF MY OWN DEMONS OF PAST MEMORIES IN SAN ANTONE . GOD BLESS TEXAS 🇺🇸 666 OUT
Sounds like you have been in the military. Semper Fi from an old Marine Sgt...OUT
Love the photo of Linda Haynes at 2:14. So beautiful!
Let me get my gear
