The game against Croatia was THE making of Wayne Rooney!
I just rewatched the highlights to the Croatia game. I forgot just how much of a player Rooney was! I also couldn't even remember Scholes playing - he was on fire! Scoring a goal and lots of shots. A very different England to today's team.

It wasn’t a one off game. England in Euro 04 were a far better team (on and off the pitch) than the current team.

Aww Euro 2004 this Euro 2004 that. All they did was beat Switzerland and Croatia and my man scored 4 goals. That’s all they did. They flopped big time and let us down just like they did in 02 and 06. Golden generation my arse. And they cover them selves by blaming Sven who was a top elite coach
Agree tbh, Neville always says if Rooney hadn't picked up the injury we'd have won it. More classic English arrogance thinking we're way better than we actually are
Not their fault they got drawn against Real teams unlike Gareth's unreal luck in the draws each and every time. Not beaten one team they were equal to or worse than.
theres not much togetherness amongst the players i dont think, i mean a lot of english fans dont really give a **** about international football these days, i dont know whats caused it but there seems to be more unity in other countries but england is so divided.
Rooney was unlucky against Portugal breaking a bone in his foot early in the game. Could have been a different story. He was unplayable that tournament even against France (Beckham clowning and Zidane brilliance saved France). Lost on pens to the home team. I don't like England but I give them credit they tried in 2004 it was a good team, also keep in mind they basically had no keeper lol.
