tjskelly100 lmao I was playing 2k and I'd just keep passing it to him and he'd knock down 3s 5ft behind the arc with someone guarding him😂 thought it was just game logic
tjskelly100 ya it definitly helps. even when he's having am off night, the gravity he causes, really opens up the lane for our drivers to get to the basket, or kick out for an open 3. in our system, you almost have to have a stretch 4 or shit gets too clogged up in the middle.
This is great man thanks..between this and BBALL Breakdown I'm learning the game of basketball has so much more to it than what meets the untrained eye
Thanks for this video ... i watch this video like a hundred times.. I do coach a Semi-Pro team in the Philippines.. I followed the Mike Dantoni offense and it's my favorite !!!!
I know I've seen that term used and seen that video. Didn't use that term here because that's not what the Rockets actually call it, just a name some are calling it because Spain ran this play first.
It's so simple yet so effective. Literally almost every play is a pick N' roll and then run straight down the middle and sometimes use multiple picks and then Harden or whoever will just make the right decision to either take it to the hole their self or pass it to the open man. Often times the open man is the guy screening for Harden because he draws so much attention.
I love the Rockets. In these days with just superteams tearing up the league, it's super satisfying to see this rockets team play great basketball without a bunch of all stars
That set where Capela receives the backscreen instead of setting the down screen is part of the Rocket's "Point" series. It's their Rip counter. Point series is a simple down screen on the weak-side in early offense. With Rocket's spacing, it is difficult for defenses to offer any help on primary cutter, which also opens up secondary cutter too.
great content.thank you!! Do a video on the ways Curry Steph uses to score.. do some player breakdowns.. i would appreciate a lot.. and other college players too i believe
This video is amazing. Im a rockets fan and even I did not know the rockets offense was doing all this shit. All I was focused on was making the shots, which they did.
This video is great for a few reasons and one underrated reason to me is that Harden has a major advantage in offense and teammate quality over Westbrook. I think Russ is more valuable than Harden is, though both deserve the award this season.
Zak Boisvert is a beast with his video on the 21-Series, A.K.A " Pistol Offense." Houston Rockets have the master of Pistol Offense, Coach Mike D'Antonio. Clippers already run the offense, so Chris Paul should have a smooth transition. Now James Harden can go back to his best spot, 2-Guard.
That's why Harden deserves MVP because the Rockets have the best offence in the league in a team which wasn't really suppose to or expected to and a lot of the credit goes to Harden
Constant Ball-Hogging-style Pick & Rolls with Spot-Up shooters can be mind-numbing if are a fan of player & ball movement. I miss the days of constant motion.
Alot of their success has to do with chemistry. I like how ariza and Nene have some chemistry from back in Washington and Gordon and Ryan have chemistry from back in New Orleans. This group of guys will be hard to stop for the next few seasons.
Early Offense Double-Staggered Screen for Gordon 3-pointers were my favorite.😀😀😀 If Gordon curled toward the rim, the last down-screener could step back outside the 3-point line for Catch & Shoot = Double-Staggered Fan play for Ryan Anderson.
its just pick and roll and pick and Pop from Harden, there is no system without Harden ...Im more interested with that Brad Stevens playbook because all of them on the floor keep on moving, pass the ball around and those cool clever passes from an unexpected cutter is fun to watch...... I wonder if Kyrie can Memorize Brad Stevens trick book LOL
I always wonder if they actually think deeply about this, or does it just happen naturally... It's hard to imagine that all this goes through their head while playing. Must be a combination of expericence and coaching
Houston added Chris Paul this season. Losing to San Antonio in the playoffs exposed Harden. He had gotten so used to the PG role that he couldn't turn back into the old Harden when they needed him as a shooter.
Look, I get the numbers. Mid-range is the least efficient area from which to shoot, ignoring how contested a shot is. But no team avoids mid-range more than the Rockets; they shoot about half as often from 10-16 feet as the next most reluctant team. Also, no team is as bad at mid-range as the Rockets. That's too much offensive space to concede to good defenses who know they never have to defend in that area because the Rockets won't shoot from there, and even if they do, they're going to be terrible at converting from there. You're going to have nights when you shoot 5-30 from downtown. On days look those, it's nice to have a little more diversity in your offensive attack. It's kind of like running the football even if you're bad at it. You still have to do it once in a while to keep the defenses honest. I feel like the Rockets could've gotten past the Spurs if they managed to shoot better from 2 in their series, and it didn't help their cause that the Spurs only had to defend the line or close to the basket. You can beat the Nuggets and the Bulls with this philosophy, but you're hamstringing yourself against elite defenses. Above all else, I'm excited to see Chris Paul join the Rockets because he is very effective at attacking defenses from mid-range. He'll give the Rockets a more well-rounded offense.
The Hawks could've kept rolling like this but coach Nate McMIllan would do post ups and iso plays. Shit's tiring to watch. Bring D'Antoni to the Hawks. We got fuck all defense anyway, might as well go ham on the offense.
The Rockets got robbed by the Chris Paul trade. Lou Williams, Montrez Harrell and Patrick Beverly are thriving as a Clipper. Imagine the impact they could have done as Rocket's secondary squad against the Warriors. Might have won them the series against the defending champs.
Simple, really. Its called 4 out 1 in high pick and roll basketball. Cant double team the Rockets or they make you pay. Another thing worth mentioning, NO ONES CUTTING. They pick their spot on the elbow or both corners. Badly timed cuts makes the pick and roll finish harder to complete.
Ok, Anderson's crazy depth on these 3s is a big reason for their success. Wow, those are deep threes.
That's what I was thinking like damn that guy has some range
tjskelly100 lmao I was playing 2k and I'd just keep passing it to him and he'd knock down 3s 5ft behind the arc with someone guarding him😂 thought it was just game logic
tjskelly100 That's why he's the x factor for beating Gs and Spurs. He really stretches the floor because of how good he can knock down deep 3s.
tjskelly100 ya it definitly helps. even when he's having am off night, the gravity he causes, really opens up the lane for our drivers to get to the basket, or kick out for an open 3. in our system, you almost have to have a stretch 4 or shit gets too clogged up in the middle.
D Waidner 'for our drivers' are you on the team or something?
This is great man thanks..between this and BBALL Breakdown I'm learning the game of basketball has so much more to it than what meets the untrained eye
coaching is undervalued!!
Check out 'By any means Basketball', another great channel.
Jeffrey Reinna-Adelaide Khan u know bro
Thanks for this video ... i watch this video like a hundred times.. I do coach a Semi-Pro team in the Philippines.. I followed the Mike Dantoni offense and it's my favorite !!!!
The set play is called "spain pick and roll" from bballbreakdown
I know I've seen that term used and seen that video. Didn't use that term here because that's not what the Rockets actually call it, just a name some are calling it because Spain ran this play first.
Coach Daniel Can you do a video on Washington Wizards offense?
I was thinking of that. Maybe.
"half the deffense double the offense"
Vonrafael1 T.T lmao game of zones
coach daniel, i just want to say that your vids are amazing
Your Pic is an L but that comments a W!
Never realized how complex and amazing their offense is. Great video!
Well done, a lot of great clips and footage to efficiently and thoroughly show and explain every situation/ scenario
A lot of teams are running that "spanish" Pick&Roll now and it always generates something good. Really hard to stop
Spain pick and roll is such a great and simple play, Mike d’Antoni influence/imprint on NBA is so underrated
I respect harden a lot more after this video, MVP
what
Now they have CP3 too...
I like the natural progression and counters of this analysis
It's so simple yet so effective. Literally almost every play is a pick N' roll and then run straight down the middle and sometimes use multiple picks and then Harden or whoever will just make the right decision to either take it to the hole their self or pass it to the open man. I love the Rockets. In these days with just superteams tearing up the league, it's super satisfying to see this rockets team play great basketball without a bunch of all stars
Great video! The nuggets are doing great right now and offensive and defensive breakdown on them would be awesome
Honestly simple but yet VERY efficient basketball. I like how they run their business
What is that play at 5:20? What a weird set but it looks extremely effective with a good roll man.
that double pick n roll amazing
That set where Capela receives the backscreen instead of setting the down screen is part of the Rocket's "Point" series. It's their Rip counter. Awesome video. I don't play basketball and don't know much about it but dang is this interesting. I wish you made videos about volleyball...
As always great stuff coach
great content.thank you!! Do a video on the ways Curry Steph uses to score.. do some player breakdowns.. i would appreciate a lot.. and other college players too i believe
very nice. more please. keep up the good work!
Hardens beard is art.
Sahibjot237 so true
nice vid man... hope to see more from you
Good breakdown of the film.
So exciting to see CP3 in this system!
I love that STACK offense when the 2nd guy is a BIG that can make 3-pointers( Stretch-5/4) so you can 3 spot-up shooters instead of 2.
This is Mike d Antoni's System. I love it!
Great video and breakdown.
Can u make a video of how San Antonio stopped them in playoffs? Or was this more Houston running out of gas?
Massive Respect
What a well explained video! Thank you so much!
Would love to see some of these sets for Haliburton and Toppin in Indiana...
0:45 the most satisfying shot I've seen
Thanks for the video, I loved it
This video is amazing. Im a rockets fan and even I did not know the rockets offense was doing all this shit. All I was focused on was making the shots, which they did.
Harden's defense is an art
This video is great for a few reasons and one underrated reason to me is that Harden has a major advantage in offense and teammate quality over Westbrook. I think Russ is more valuable than Harden is, though both deserve the award this season.
Well done, CD. Great video. They've been the most exciting team to watch this season.
Can't wait for the Texas showdown Spurs vs Rockets!
Coach Dan you have to redo this video this season with Chris Paul and Harden together... its even more beautiful.
This is such a simple offense, yet so effective.
Benjamin De Winter why simple
Zak Boisvert is a beast with his video on the 21-Series, A.K.A " Pistol Offense." Houston Rockets have the master of Pistol Offense, Coach Mike D'Antonio.

Moshfeq Khan lol what?? If anything that says harden isn't most valuable player...
adam gin he's never missed the playoffs ...so how isn't he the most valuable ?
Young Flourish he did in 2016 season dumbaas
Wiza no he hasn't lol
Wiza nigga you calling that man a dumbass... look at ya self bitch boy
Constant Ball-Hogging-style Pick & Rolls with Spot-Up shooters can be mind-numbing if are a fan of player & ball movement. I miss the days of constant motion.
"I say zero the defense, double the offense..."
Harden: 😀
Love what you do. Would appreciate if you focused on the strength of the Rockets D
Alot of their success has to do with chemistry. I like how ariza and Nene have some chemistry from back in Washington and Gordon and Ryan have chemistry from back in New Orleans. This group of guys will be hard to stop for the next few seasons.
Early Offense Double-Staggered Screen for Gordon 3-pointers were my favorite.😀😀😀
If Gordon curled toward the rim, the last down-screener could step back outside the 3-point line for Catch & Shoot = Double-Staggered Fan play for Ryan Anderson.
God damnnn that's just genius
Do one for this season
James Harden’s defense tho🔥 🔥 🔥
Welp Coach Daniel...
Spurs and Rockets... let's see
The Rockets are my team, but I love how half the open shots are missed LOL
Lack of mid range will kill them in the play offs
But hear me out, on those fouls they draw, who really initiates the contact?
Do a review on their defense which is as beautiful as their offense xD
Kawhi confused af at 3:27
that awkward moment when Eric Gordon misses😂
Hardens beard is the GOAT
its just pick and roll and pick and Pop from Harden, there is no system without Harden ...Im more interested with that Brad Stevens playbook because all of them on the floor keep on moving, pass the ball around and those cool clever passes from an unexpected cutter is fun to watch...... I wonder if Kyrie can Memorize Brad Stevens trick book LOL
I was at that pacers game
need to update this video, they are more powerful offense now
This offense would've been much more beautiful with Dwight. Oh how I wish they made it work back in 2013
Yup, the word artistry does come to mind whenever I watch Harden play.
MVP
Ryan anderson is the next 3pt champion with those deep balls he pulls
Nice vid
I didn't realize why he won coach of the year until now
and they are adding a pick and roll god in CP3 to this offense. wow.
Looks a lot like my high school mind set of offense. Just threes and close range
A passing center would be so op for them omg
Wonder what tyron lue doing at Cleveland.
So this year is Houston's?
I always wonder if they actually think deeply about this, or does it just happen naturally... It's hard to imagine that all this goes through their head while playing. Must be a combination of expericence and coaching
Houston added Chris Paul this season. Losing to San Antonio in the playoffs exposed Harden.
He had gotten so used to the PG role that he couldn't turn back into the old Harden when they needed him as a shooter.
Harden = MVP
Gordon = 6th man oty
D'antoini = COTY
champagne kevin Lou might get it over Gordon
+415City Harden is getting MVP.
Tyler Johnson or James Johnson deserve 6th man oty way more. They do more than just scoring
even if Lou wins it he's on the Rockets now loool. I personally want Westbrook as MVP but I just feel like the NBA favors Harden
Stats favor Harden.
Idk much, and I like the rockets but I think defensively, they can get out done by actual good defense, like spurs and jazz.
Christopher Aizen ya, just like every other offense in the league. the question is, can they stop it 4 outta 7 games.
So... why doesn't it work vs Spurs or Warriors? :D
San antion best defense beat Houston best offense hum
Now including CP3 and maybe potentially Melo.
3:26 Is that a magic?
If the Rockets turn it up on D, they could go all the way like Hakeem did. One superstar and all great role players
What is the background track?
ruclips.net/video/OaCLcFtCSPA/видео.html
Coach Daniel Thanks. Grettings!
The Hawks could've kept rolling like this but coach Nate McMIllan would do post ups and iso plays. Shit's tiring to watch. Bring D'Antoni to the Hawks. We got fuck all defense anyway, might as well go ham on the offense.
HOUSTON BABYY
"......Half the defense, double the offense"
- Mike D'Antoni, 2016
The Rockets got robbed by the Chris Paul trade. Lou Williams, Montrez Harrell and Patrick Beverly are thriving as a Clipper. Imagine the impact they could have done as Rocket's secondary squad against the Warriors. Might have won them the series against the defending champs.
Rockets were so deep when they were there. They had 2 sixth man candidates. That's probably an all time great bench right there
Do Miami Offense and Defense
both suck
ejayarts you are sleeping on the heat
Imagine doing this with CP3 James harden taking the place of ariza which the play often opens
the cavs defended them really well
t is all about harden, he drives crosses his defender go to easy lay ups or lob pass to capella or step back and drain 3
Ok, go lean towards the Rockets. I'll put my money on the Spurs.
I never really thought Houston has horrible defense. I thought we had a pretty good defense.
its going to be really interesting to see CP3 and Harden playing together
3:29 perfect pAss
6:09 thats an old unc play
