Great video. It takes me back to about 1958 when my late father Jack Shanley was a signalman at Castletown. He cycled there and back from Lynn Mullingat in all weather's, with me on the cross bar of the bicycle! BR Valentine Shanley
@@SouthernYard Yes, and the network that remains is very fragmented. The closure of Athlone-Mullingar was very short sighted, two large and expanding towns and a line with a lot of future potential. Does IR still own the route or is all of it now a cycle route?
That railway line between Athlone and Mullingar is now a cycle track, with sections of the railway removed completely. Real clever move for sure 🙄🙄
You can cut the atmosphere and nostalgia with a knife, beautiful, visceral video 👍👍👍😀👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
End of days video…..the weed sprayer was like life support….just about keeping it alive.
@@SouthernYard Where do you get these videos? They're fantastic
Fabulous video shame the line isn’t used anymore 😥 Should open the all up again 👍

A great vid thanks for sharing
Still cant believe they turned this line into a cycle track how ridiculous
It’s at least getting more use this way, plus the tracks are still there.
There is not much accounting for Iar R way of thinking. Should have been electrified
We shouldn't be shutting railway's, it's so short sighted.
It’s been happening since the 1950s so it’s been a slow decline to our network.

It could all be done with a Massey 135 for forks sake
