Ice Age Trail thru hike 2019: Day 29 and 30

- Ice Age Day 29: Naga-Waukee County Park (891.1)
To Pike Lake State Park (921.6)
30.5 Miles
NOTE: Really needed a smaller mile day today not because of physically pushing previous day but to mentally get back into a good head space. Previous day had really thrown me all out of whack. ( Walking around an interstate at night and all motels are booked is not fun)
Got back into a good head space though and enjoyed today!
Ice Age Day 30: Pike Lake State Park (921.6)
To Mauthe Lake Campground (955.9)
34.3 Miles
Note: Really enjoying these smaller mile days, gives me time to soak in these sections/ have fulfilling conversations with other hikers and not worrying about my miles/time.
P:S: You cross the campground first at mile 955 but it is easier to reach at mile 955.9 and then a left on County Rd GGG. Puts you into the upper 500’s camp areas.
P:S:S Kind of expensive campground....$23 for non Wisconsin residents

Thank you for sharing and thank you for your monolog. This is one of the best complete videos about the Ice Age Trail that I have watched. Keep up the great work and continue your detail about the trail. Safe hiking.
At 1:01:30 (ish) you comment about a bridge "can you imagine that bridge not being there..."
Well actually yes--last year while I was hiking here, a hiker fell into the water and could have easily drowned. My friend tried to help pull her out and also fell into the water. Both of them got out safely. The hiker was older but also experienced. My friend and I have trail ran through that area often and the water has been so high it's over flowing the bridge and so low that you can see the bottom of the pole. However, after we saw the hiker fall in, my friend and I wrote to the local chapter to get the bridge looked at (asking how we could help out too) and now that bridge is no longer part of the IA trail. The area has been rerouted due to the high levels of water and the safety concerns others have had. A lot of this area has been slightly altered or new bridges have been added so if you come back to WI to hike our trail, you'll see some nice surprises along the way! (Including new trail areas for Slinger and a new bridge at Holy Hill (the scary one you make mention of is no longer!)
Wisconsin says you're welcome! I'm proud of my state and I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you, it was a really cool state to travel thru. A tad bit wet that year but still had some amazing sites and areas and history was just abundant!
You should check out the north country trail. Runs through the best parts of the state, especially copper falls state park. You can use this link to reserve any state camp sight with your phone so you're not stuck without a spot to sleep next time "Wisconsin State Parks Reservation System" wisconsin.goingtocamp.com
Really enjoying your IAT thur hike. Hoping to do the pinhoti next year myself.
Thanks for watching! The Pinhoti is continuing to grow in popularity, my recommendation, DO NOT do in the heat of summer, the overgrowth and heat waves can be brutal. i have heard fall and spring hikes are absolutely fantastic though, good weather and temps, and easier to maintain the unruly sections.
Thanks for putting up all the info about the glacier. I agree with you the ice age trail has a lot of history attached to it. Thanks for taking us through it.
Those beautiful fall colors are beginning to show 🍁.
Congrats on day 30.
Slinger is awesome! Love pike lake. Sight B3 is the BEST
Beautiful lakes through this section.
Wisconsin in the fall overall is fantastic. Cool temperatures, great colors just coming on. The tread on that side of the state looks to be terrific.
I went to high school in Slinger and grew up here. So cool to see people on the trail in my backyard!
Pike lake is awesome for pheasant back mushrooms in the spring
I wish I knew how to define mushrooms better, I know Chicken and Hen of the woods as well as Lobster....but that is about it when it comes to myself trusting my mushroom classification technique.
@@HikingAmerica yes me too. Pheasant back and the ones you named are the only ones I know how to identify enough to trust to eat. And white puffball. Those are hard to mistake. Only dangerous possible look alike to puffball while their small is the button stage of something else that's easily identified by cutting into it. If it has gills... it's not a puff ball.
West Bend holds an annual geocache event it’s huge
Hey, maybe we should hike this section someday..
Indeed we shall hike it... soon
Man-a-toe-walk
When you got to the New Fane area you were in my backyard.
IAT stepping at its finest! Haven’t seen a comment on these videos for a while makes me nostalgic!
