    Hi Douglas, having recently retired and a complete rookie to fishing, I viewed your You Tube videos on mackerel fishing. I bought kit as per your recommendation and I headed down to the very location where you filmed.
    First cast….. five mackerel!!!!!….. all hooks taken! Stayed on for another couple of hours without any more fish. Took two home and they are gutted and in the freezer. Many Thanks, David

    Good video.
    Had me in the cupboard there looking for a buscuit tin, i did find two identical Shortbread tins but theyre too shallow , only 4.75cm deep.
    To think as a Blacksmith-Welder way back in the 80s and 90's i must have made around 30 fish smokers but gave them all away to my pals that fished, i did keep one for myself but gave it away a good few years ago.
    Even though we had gas stoves we mostly used a tobaco tin filled with Methylated spirits as the heat source back then , a gas stove is a better idea though .

      @@stevie9899-e6j 😂😂I could just imagine, I robbed one of my mums biscuit tins. The thin tin base makes it very easy for the heat to penetrate and get the chips smoking. Thanks for taking the time to comment, it’s much appreciated buddy👍

      @@PiscatorUK-Fishing hi pal, I bought two small £1.50 oven basting tins from Asda and will be making a smoker with them today, one is the base and the other is the lid, .......can i ask do you prefer using wood chips or wood dust and why ?
      I popped up to Glasgow Angling Centre yesterday for some but they were sold out , so i'll order some on Amazon.
      Cheers

    • @PiscatorUK-Fishing
      @PiscatorUK-Fishing  3 месяца назад +1

      @@stevie9899-e6j good idea with the two tins. I tend to just use chips due to their versatility as I use them for other cooking, they’re handy when bbq in, just chuck a few on the coals to give a different flavour. I find that wood dust can burn off really quickly, it does generate a lot of smoke but it can be too much and overpower the fish. Dust is probably better suited to the mentholated spirit burner as it catches with less heat. I’m sure other people will have a different opinion but this is just my experience pal. Amazon is probably the best place in terms of variety and cost. In the chips though you will get a lot of different size chips, I prefer the smaller grade chips and pick out the large chunks and use them for the bbq.

      @@stevie9899-e6j cheers for the info mate. I usually wet cure all my hot smoked fish in a brine but on the beach it’s easier and quicker to just put on seasoning. Happy smoking and tight lines for some fresh mackerel mate.
