Years ago my team of 4 (sub-1200) entered an adult tournament in which one elementary school team competed, just for the experience, planning 💯% on losing every game. I’m board 4 because I’m weak. Luckily I win quickly, as do our 1 & 2. My friend on board 3-truly the smartest person I’ve ever met IRL-blundered a piece mid game just from the pressure of sitting across from a 2nd grader. As other games ended players walked by and tsk tsked, and my friends anxiety skyrocketed. People were staring. He went down material again & at some point it was too humiliating. Little guy screams “You RESIGN?!!?” (They never do in low level school chess, anyone can slip.) Kid runs off celebrating, his little team in total joy for their only win of the tournament, and my poor friend got “oh, you’re THAT guy” commiserations the rest of the weekend. Playing 8-year-olds. Your mind can just fail. I feel for the GM.
I lose to an 8-year every tournament I enter LOL. I've definitely heard that incredulous "You RESIGN!?" Also "Mom, I defended a losing position... and WON!" And it's not just the kids who celebrate - Last time the parents asked if they could photograph my notation sheet of the moves as a memento since my opponent wasn't writing them down, they were so proud. It's hard losing to children, but their joy is hard not to appreciate :)
Doesnt matter he is "pretty low" rates grandmaster, 2350 nevertheless. And he is below 1900 and very young. I would say a pretty great performance deserving some respect
At 2350, he would probably beat me in 950 out of 1000 games. I may be able to squeeze in 50 draws (if I was really focused). Very unlikely I would beat him even once. Now, admittedly, I am worse than this prodigious kid. But on the topic of the GM's 2350 rating, he could beat chess loving amateur players like me, day in and day out, at will. Most of us would be lucky to have the opportunity to play with him.
A very nice game. It's always scary playing juniors as you know they are playing way above their rating. But when I was playing competitively, in the 1960s and 70s teenagers were considered 'young' in chess terms. How times have changed. Great video as always.

What I really want to say is that the analysis of the games you post is brilliant and it really is bringing back my interest in playing chess again. Thank you.

@@userac-xpg That's an awful take. You obviously have no idea how difficult it is to become a GM and how good you have to be to get there, otherwise you wouldn't make such a stupid comment.
That would be horrible because dropping 100 elo is easy with aging/lack of practice so you would basically be punishing people for getting worse. The titles of strong chess players are credentials that help their career in coaching and making educational material.
Ng5 kind of funny the GM missed it when a knight is that close to your king it’s a must to study all the possible continuations forks etc it hadn’t even crossed my mind the knight move winning the rook I also looked at it as if the other knight would capture back young man is incredible I can envision a very young person like himself falling in love with Chess and becoming so good at the game I just wonder how much theory openings etc does this young boy know at only 8 years old he probably has some astute awareness of the game becoming so good at such a young age
Bad times can happen and losing 200 points in a few years can happen. But don't let this fool ourselves, 2300 is also too strong for anyone who is around 1900 and he is supposed to win 9 times out of 10.
@@salmarwow The difference is the 2300 guy is dropping elo so he's probably playing even worse than he's rated and the 1900 kid is 1900 just because he's too young to play enough tournaments to farm enough. This "supposed to win" you can apply on Magnus playing Anand or someone who's sitting +-30 points for several years but not on a kid that climbed 400 elo last year and probably will another 300 this year
@@petrjara7559 with that logic every 2000 should beat 2300 who's dropping his rating. Been there, done that. 2300 should eat every 2000 for breakfast. On the other hand, some comments like "is he gm, he is only above 2300" are ridiculous. It's still a master norm and it's much higher than any 8 year kid in the world.
Very impressive game by this young guy. By a twist of fate I am trying to establish a new kind of chess game and I couldn´t have asked for a better timing to present it in the light of this new comer´s entrance on the internet. The game is called "Double draw" and the simple point of it is to eliminate blacks disadvantage of being a step behind all the time. The rules is as follows : White starts as usual with one draw then black makes two consecutive draws followed with two draws for white and so it continues throughout the game. You are only allowed to check on your SECOND draw and you have to use two DIFFERENT pieces for the double draw unless of course you´re only left with the king. I tried this just recently in a IRL game so I don´t really know if there are any illogicality that might occur due to the rules in more complicated positions. Please try with your friends and let me know what you think ; but you have to play IRL games as you can´t find this on internet. Yet!

Getting the title takes so much effort, there is no reason to punish people for getting worse because that is natural with getting older or scaling down your commitment to competitive chess. Grandmaster titles have always been titles for life and awarded based on the greatest performance of a player
He peaked at 2544 in 2015, so he lost 200 points in the last 9 years. Sure he lost ratings, but nothing out of the ordinary. Not all grandmasters earn a living playing chess, so they might not have the time to keep their skills sharp when they have a full-time job or maybe a family.
It is easy to lose 150 rating as a player that strong. It makes a lot of difference having good opening prep and being in practice at that level because everyone has to tryhard to get there
Super unpopular opinion. But if you’re a GM and your rating drops below 2300 in classical, you should lose your GM title and be forced to grind to get it back.
But then it is basically taking away your trophy for passing a performance benchmark. If you drop to 2250 and have your title revoked you are now indistinguishable from people who reached 2250 and never got any stronger. He is not pretending to be stronger than he is with the GM title as we can clearly see his rating.

11 - Sergey isn't banned because Sergey only privately supports Putin because chess doesn't make people go insane unless they the players want to stick to 1 SP only, like Garry.
12 - Actually here, Bobby has very neutral feminist enlightened political views and is a true patriotic Jew & American ( in politics in addition to still being such a patriot in chess ) while respectfully criticising both US & Israel along side condemning Osama bin Laden / Al-Qaeda & Ismail Haniyeh / Hamas. So Bobby is still against Iraq invasion.
13 - Most importantly, no one cares about Garry, Magnus, Hikaru or Liren. Specifically, in this world, they care less about them as compared to Wesley, Nepo, Bobby & Anatoly in our world.
14 - Paradise.

PLEASE agad it's been 4 months! 2023 USCC - Atousa almost beat Carissa Yip, the eventual winner!
Carissa was losing most of the game. Atousa just blundered in the end.
It's Hikaru's (rapid WFRCC) WIFE vs Wesley's (classical WFRCC) GIRLFRIEND.

2351 is pretty low for a GM. I think they need a minimum of 2500 to be awarded the title
You do have to be a minimum of 2500 to earn the GM title, but just because you were there once doesn't mean you're always going to be there.
Its a shame they dont take away the gm title if your rating drops below 2400
@@userac-xpg That's an awful take. You obviously have no idea how difficult it is to become a GM and how good you have to be to get there, otherwise you wouldn't make such a stupid comment.
That would be horrible because dropping 100 elo is easy with aging/lack of practice so you would basically be punishing people for getting worse. The titles of strong chess players are credentials that help their career in coaching and making educational material.
White had to get pawn h4 in there somehow, but did not.
Indians breaking records !
I'm just a random on chess, but black didnt play for a win, what is expected if you arent fighting for some candidates slot
Good to share the Name 😅
Great video! (I haven’t seen it yet but I know it)
I saw it a few days ago.
With a rating of 2351, this grandmaster was low hanging fruit.
strip the GM Of his title !!!! jokes good stuff little guy
Title should be GM or whatever😂
these comments make me chuckle. It is impossible to get any good at chess without losing to people 1/2 or 1/3 your age
Rated 2351 and a grandmaster??? How???
Move 29-knight b3 is winning for black.
when i was 8 years old, we were being taught how to spell simple words lol...
Wow
You have 8 year olds and you have "8 years olds"........that chess monster is "an 8 years old", don't confuse it with an 8 year old!
sure he may be a better chess player than me, but i dont feel bad about it because my liver is much better at processing chemical drugs 😜
poor jacek haha
I wonder how many elo points he lost
Perhaps its time to create another title. Super gm or something like that.
I’ve heard some people call 2800 and up a Super GM
@@LukeLongboneOfficial imo 2800 seams pretty high for a new title. There are really few players who are 2800 or even achieved it.
@@LukeLongboneOfficial I think it was more like 2700 and up
If I was a grandmaster I would never play an 8-year-old.
If i were, not was.

Isn't GM from 2500+ ? Is that normal you get GM title and then you lose 200 points in your 30s?
Bad times can happen and losing 200 points in a few years can happen. But don't let this fool ourselves, 2300 is also too strong for anyone who is around 1900 and he is supposed to win 9 times out of 10.
Its not normal to decline at such a young age. Perhaps he faked his way to gm title
If he has bad day, then maybe there is a chance for a draw. Well, kid may be stronger than he looks by the rating. On the other hand, some comments like "is he gm, he is only above 2300" are ridiculous. It's still a master norm and it's much higher than any 8 year kid in the world.
Presumably the child is underrated due to lack of games and probably 2000+ who do tend to occasionally score against titled players
Crazy kids 🤣
Stopa probably got paid to lose

Very impressive game by this young guy. By a twist of fate I am trying to establish a new kind of chess game and I couldn´t have asked for a better timing to present it in the light of this new comer´s entrance on the internet.
The game is called "Double draw" and the simple point of it is to eliminate blacks disadvantage of being
a step behind all the time.
The rules is as follows : White starts as usual with one draw then black makes two consecutive draws
followed with two draws for white and so it continues throughout the game.
You are only allowed to check on your SECOND draw and you have to use two DIFFERENT pieces
for the double draw unless of course you´re only left with the king.
I tried this just recently in a IRL game so I don´t really know if there are any illogicality
that might occur due to the rules in more complicated positions.
Please try with your friends and let me know what you think ; but you have to play IRL games
as you can´t find this on internet. Yet!
kramnik: he is a cheater
Indian-Origin Boy, 8, Breaks World Record To Be The Youngest To Defeat A Grandmaster In Classical Chess. Ashwath Kaushik, who represented Singapore, defeated Stopa, who at 37 is nearly five times older than him. An eight-year-old Indian-origin boy defeated Polish chess grandmaster Jacek Stopa at the Burgdorfer Stadthaus Open in Switzerland on Sunday
Is he also the lowest rated to beat a grandmaster?
A 2351 grandmaster? Really?
This guy is a WGM.
Hans Niemann = next Bobby Fischer
- Wesley So = current Bobby Fischer
- Bobby Fischer's ghost = old Bobby Fischer
- Beth Harmon = Bobby Fischer in another universe
Each of these 4 'is a prodigy, had a rather dark childhood and is American'.
Speaking of Wesley So
Hikaru's (the rapid WFRCC) wife almost beat Wesley So's (the classical WFRCC) girlfriend!
2023 USCC - Indeed Carissa Yip won and thanked Wesley So as her secret second in the 2023 USCC closing ceremony speech.
But in Carissa vs Atousa, Carissa was losing most of the game. Atousa just blundered in the end.

You really are on a hiding to nothing when playing a kid that age. if you win everyone goes "Sow hat?" and if you lose they never let you forget it.
This is demoralising
A 2351 player is a GM, geez talking about lowering the bar. You should lose your GM title if you fall below a certain level like 2500
Getting the title takes so much effort, there is no reason to punish people for getting worse because that is natural with getting older or scaling down your commitment to competitive chess. Grandmaster titles have always been titles for life and awarded based on the greatest performance of a player
I'm under the impression a classification of GM starts a 2500. I searched a couple of sites and found that to be the case.
You just needs a peak rating over 2500. If you earn the title, you can't lose it again.
@@rasmusjohansen6190, if Stopa had a rating of 2500, plus fulfilled the other requirements for becoming a grandmaster, he sure went downhill.
It makes a lot of difference having good opening prep and being in practice at that level because everyone has to tryhard to get there
Pretty low rated grandmaster.
Practically a mid IM
I thought the same. When I heard this on news I thought 2500+
It's a child against an adult gm but your comment was funny we all got the joke. Sorry for those that didn't.
I didn't. Explain plz?@@andrewmacintosh1388
Once you are a GM, you will always remain a GM regardless of the rating.
Super unpopular opinion. But if you’re a GM and your rating drops below 2300 in classical, you should lose your GM title and be forced to grind to get it back.
Especially if you are under 50 years old
But then it is basically taking away your trophy for passing a performance benchmark. If you drop to 2250 and have your title revoked you are now indistinguishable from people who reached 2250 and never got any stronger. He is not pretending to be stronger than he is with the GM title as we can clearly see his rating.
2351 for a GM? That must be a record in itself.
Can still easily beat you (up) lol
Not even close to the lowest rated GM.
