He IS an AMAZING song writer and most people do NOT know he wrote ALL of Maiden's songs UNTIL the return of Bruce, who left due to NO input into the music, when he came back he and Harris co-write

Well, my Dad lied about his age to join the RAF a year early and became a tail-gunner in a Wellington bomber; possibly the most dangerous spot in the air; why? Because he came from a poor family and airmen got better food and pay than soldiers and seamen.
Edit: ... and he's still alive to this day; turned 94 this year!

Thanks for the lecture, it felt lengthy but it offered facts that I didn't know and I appreciate it. What made me click the like button was your view of things, your attitude. You phrased it perfectly when you said "It's a disgusting moral quandry that has no clear right or wrong". Other people may disagree but to me, it's absolutely on the nose. Thank you, always nice to meet intellectual and moral people.

This is the song that introduced me to Iron Maiden (I believe, I was very young) and it is my favourite. The energy output of this song is off the charts! How a song can sound like an aerial fight? The solo especially, amazing. Bruce's voice is at its apex. The guitar squel in the chorus... everything is perfect. Love it!

Not only about the Spitfire. It's about the fighter pilots of the RAF who were the thin red line between the Germans invading Britain. They needed air superiority to do this and the Luftwaffe had 4 times the number of planes that the RAF had. Two thirds of our planes were the slower Hurricanes, inferior in almost every respect but they could take a lot of damage. The RAF at this point consisted of Brit's, Canadians, Jamaican's, Poles and others. If you want to really understand it better I'd urge you to watch a movie called Reach For The Sky, it's a gripping view. PS, Churchill was a drunkard and a womaniser as well.

And My sistah! She is so open minded and willing to hear things that are hard to hear when someone wants to give anyone a chance. They are so cute. Right. And amazing. Love them both!!!!

Love you Both!

As for the "rolling turning diving, going in again" turning up in that documentary as well as the IM lyrics, I am sure Harris probably saw the same (or a similar) documentary (unless the documentary was released after 1984, then indeed, CHILLS) - I reckon he does his researching homework when writing these songs, which is why they're so detailed and the lyrics are in-depth but concise and succinct.

Problem being, that women who vociferously and sometimes violently advocate for "equal rights" nowadays who have dyed hair, I stay well clear of. When I was young, women with tattoos and dyed hair were at metal and punk gigs and they were cool. Now if I see them I cross the road. I don't even look at them. They'll probably accuse me of having an ism or a phobia, or call me a "nazi". The irony being that the content of this song eulogises those who fought against real nazis, for freedom, "the few"

Also Wolfkain, if you want the ultimate Iron Maiden collection, I highly suggest picking up the new 2015 remasters of the entire catalog. They were remastered first in 2015 for vinyl and then on CD starting in 2018. But they were initially restored from the analog tapes from the Abbey Road Archives in London. Then digitally remastered in the most modern way where they maintain the dynamics of the original recording. In other words NO LOUDNESS WAR that was prevalent on the 1998 remasters. So what you get is when the volume would dip for louder parts on the 98 remasters in order to maintain a steady volume level, these new 2015 remasters actually get louder in those parts like they were supposed to be. It sounds counterintuitive, but the Loudness War only increased the volume of quieter parts. Also the Steve Harris bass parts are much more punchier now. You find yourself strumming along with Steve in these songs.

A story I heard about the scientists and engineers during WW2 is quite interesting, although I'm not sure how true it is, it is certainly worth mentioning. American scientists/engineers sent a drill bit to the Germans the size of a human hair. The Germans sent it back with a hole drilled in it. Germany was the top of the heap back then. But to the song, one of my faves. Love the reaction. Peace!!! (I like the jiggle.... Is that bad?)

Thank you for the history lesson. You should also check out Paschendale - Iron Maiden, which is set in World War 1. A real battle in the trenches with a horrific death toll on both sides.

I come from Puerto Rico. I served USArmy 3rd Infantry Division & I will tell you an open secret most Veterans know. War is a misunderstanding of what will be gained & what will be lost by all involved from top to bottom on all sides. Some fight to start & some fight to stop it.
I hate war but I'll die before I kneel so that you keep your individual rights & never be slaves to a group who seeks to take those rights again because they are the majority & they agreed to take from you your freedom or anything at all I swore to God.
