I've watched you ever since you bought your boat, David, (and others too as they came along,) the views inspired me to do the same, so I began to save, as my motivation was to access fishing and walking the English countryside just by stepping from a boat, I thought this was the life for me on retirement. I also subscribed to your other channel and watched you fit out your van. I had weighed the pro's and con's of life on a boat which is not a luxury life, water, electrics, damp, shopping, all these small problems adding up as large as a continuous cruiser who would be in his late sixties, but as it was an even balance, and I was going for it. Now that rising costs of materials have wiped out my savings over the last 18 months, I've had to re-assess buying a sail-away narrow boat. I'm going to stay at home, with my toilet, water, electrics and other supplies that come at the flick of a switch or the pull of a chain. However, I'm going to get a van and transform it into a overnight/weekend camper. And travel to my 2/3 day country walks and fishing waters throughout the UK instead. The cost will be a 1/4 of the cash I have saved for the boat, so my hard work saving up will still be relevant and of use. I was thinking of a Ford LWB connect van with All-Terrain tyres, fitting it with a fixed single bed, a sink, with fresh and grey water supply and using a Coleman portable gas stove to cook a sausage or two or boil water for tea. So not all is lost from the Covid price hikes. Thank you for your inspiration over the years and I'll let you know how I get on with the van conversion, rewatching all of yours. Good luck for the 2022 season.

Hello Tony. It's incredible how prices of everything have shot up lately and a shame that it's scuppered your plan for a boat. However, a campervan is an excellent alternative - I really enjoy mine - and your plan sounds excellent. Have fun! Cheers, David

A few years ago, I bought a secondhand folding caravan and made various modifications rendering suitable for continuous living for two, with built in shower and toilet as well as all the facilities for cooking and sleeping, it even had central heating.

@@jamesellsworth9673 James, I look 88, but I'm really 68, I also don't feel any different than I did when I was 48, at least for 10 hours in the day (and no not when I'm asleep) I'm very very lucky in health, never seen a doctor for 25 years, all is working fine body-wise. However, my weakness is mental health, Bipolar and BPD. So I need the quiet walking exercise and the excitement of fishing in the countryside of our great UK, and writing my poems too, to keep my mind active. Though I do just like you, watch these vids, as I get motivation from them and ideas.

I moved from the UK to the USA in 1999. I had been to a few cars shows in the UK and they were ok. So I paid $12 to see a car show at the Houston Astro Dome. Two hours later I thought well that was a great show, much bigger than anything in the UK. I was about to leave when I realized I had just been walking around the entrance foyer! It took two full days to see the actual show in the main halls. They even had customized cigarette speed boats, on customized trailers, with customized tow trucks. Later I found there were custom car shows / gatherings almost every weekend all around the US.

I do love a nice car show, it's interesting to see such a great variety of things that people have put on wheels. Let's face it, if everyone knew how to set up a live sound reinforcement system properly, what would they need people like us for?

Big tank? That's not a big tank - It's a Scorpion armoured reconnaissance vehicle (I think). Now if you want a BIG tank you should go for something like a Chieftain or a Challenger. The Scorpion weighs in at a mere 8 tons (or so), The Chieftain or Challenger are 60 ton plus main battle tanks

Not a big auto enthusiast primarily because their operation is a thing of great mystery to me. I have enough friend/family members who do know cars so that does not have to be a stumbling block to me. What I find interesting is the different types of vehicle built/sold in the UK by the same manufactures in the US. I guess the emission standards and specifications would be different.

I love seeing hat European car designers are up to. Compact cars in the American market tend to be boring, though Kia and Hyundai have stepped up their game in recent years. Too bad the speaker sessions didn't work out for you.

Edd’s outspan orange isn’t actually one of his creations. A load were made to promote oranges in the 70s, and he tracked one down, bought it, and restored it.
He’s also a youtuber now having dived out of TV land.

Cars! \o/ They had me rivetted just by being there. Well, not the Allegros; they weren't the estate model.
It's been many years since I last wanted to drive a tank around town. I've been too busy with other socially rebellious things. :3
Looks like the Lada Niva's bodywork hasn't changed in over 30 years. Nothing wrong with that, I always thought it was rather cute.
When will the Mr. Fusion get here? *sigh* I don't know! It's almost as badly delayed as food replicators. We do rather need one before the other if the replicators are going to be widely available though.
That "lead sled" Merc may have hydraulics to lift it to a more normal height when necessary.
Strange to think hot Mk1 Fiestas and Mk3 Escorts are classics now, but they have been for quite a long time already.

The Nissan Figaro is dead charming. Also: I agree with your assesment of the EV's - so many angels that just look silly and will age poorly, and all that high tech interior just begs to break down and inopportune moments, I like the analogue stuff.
