This is the JHS Unicorn, a pedal that brings the myth of the 100 percent analog signal path, Tap-tempo Uni-vibe to life on your pedalboard. Everyone knows that the true Uni-Vibe magic begins with photocells, so naturally JHS started there, crafting a pristine, authentic analog circuit which they then enhanced with tap tempo for a lush modulator that combines the best of vintage sonics and modern functionality. In addition to standard controls for volume, depth, and speed, the Unicorn also features a dry/wet switch for going between full-wet vibrato and classic Uni-vibe tones, a ratio knob for selecting between quarter note, eighth note, dotted eighth, and triplet tap subdivisions, and an internal switch for selecting between external tap mode and expression pedal mode. These modes allow you to use the tap/expression jack with either an external tap tempo pedal, or an expression pedal, to control the pedal's speed on-the-fly. The JHS Unicorn is made by hand in Kansas City, Missouri, USA, and is powered by industry standard 9-volt, negative center, DC electricity.
Andy is a freaking genius. That's not a head on his shoulders, it's a massive library. This pedal is impressive.

most times when this effect is talked about jimi is mentioned in the same breath. my introduction to uni-vibe was trower and i must say your trower chops are killer. great demo, cool pedal, interesting company ( jhs pedals ).
stephen eshelman I was in a antique shop and was unaware of Trower and bought some cheap vinyl and happened to pick the Bridge of Sigh based on the the price and picture. Man I was blown away with his playing . Great guitarist

Thank you for maxing out the depth! wanted to know if the UNI can get that vintage Vibe sound. Looking at this pedal (V2) or a Drybell (V2). The Drybell sounds better, but this might be “enough” pedal for the $100 I’ll save!
Interested in what you decided. I have the the Unicorn v2 and was wondering about the Drybell v2. Only thing I don't like about the Unicorn is how you loose so much bottom end when turning down the depth.
@@BlackDotPatrick I bought the JHS V2 a while back. I can’t afford to pickup a new Vibe right now. The Unicorn V2 is still a cool pedal. I feel like the Vibrato (no dry) setting works the best? The Chorus (dry) setting is more difficult to get that classic Vibe Sound, and it doesn’t quite sound right? The Chorus is totally serviceable for classic Vibe tunes, but doesn’t really inspire me? The Vibrato is actually pretty awesome, and I tend to use it more.
I like being able to change the speed with the tap tempo.
@@druwk Thanks for the info. I use the JHS Unicorn on Dry exclusively. I like it with the Depth knob at 11:00 or higher. Lower and it thins out the sound and reduces the bass too much. I like the tap tempo. Wondering if the Drybell would sound as good and not have the same issue.
I’m interested in this too! I haven’t been able to find a Drybell locally to demo myself.

How does this compare to the Dry Bell Vibe Machine?
Tough one. Andy has the Drybell on his personal board atm. It does that "double-throb" thing very well. The JHS is comparable, and the extra features are awesome. I'd say that in terms of tone, the Drybell wins by a hair. But last I checked, they are really expensive (at least that's the case here in Australia).

This pedal not being able to toggle between the tap and expression pedal settings EXTERNALLY is highly disappointing.
Tyler Hawkins if u had a expression pedal hooked up, why would u switch to REMOTE tap ? u can always use the pedal's own tap switch. this isn't even reading dude, its just listening. all your comments on this video are clueless.. no offense.
Daniel Simon I wasn't speaking of remote tap, I was speaking of the Unicorn's tap feature. Its one or the other, switched INTERNALLY, not both.

The playing is awesome, but I see this as a pedal with extremely limited use. In the late 60s perhaps, but not now. Some of these exotic effects are just too “out there” to be of much use in a band context.
