Why doesn't Frsky make its hardware backward compatible? Not everyone wants to use ACCESS protocol.
Edited for clarity: It would make more sense if Frsky allowed 'old' hardware to be compatible with new firmware. For me, I am content with using my Slim+ receiver with my R9M 2019 module; it would be a plus if I could flash ACCESS firmware - but Frsky wants me to upgrade to new receivers/hardware. No, thanks!! Oh, and Torban - I appreciate the effort you put into these videos. Many thanks!!
ebikefe they want to kick out everyone and make us buy new equipment
@@Freebird_67 Well, to be fair, all new FrSky Radios, Modules and Receivers are backward compatible! You can use the Access or the Accst Protocol. Only according to the specs of these new receivers it seems that they are not backwards compatible anymore - but there's no official firmware released yet, so we can't really make it clear.
FrSky also doesn't discontinue the already existing receivers, you can still buy and use the R9Slim+ R9Mini and so on Receivers with the Access or Accst Protocol. So, in the worst case, only these new receivers are only for the new access Protocol.
Just buy TBS Crossfire and forget about FrSky.
Reason why I moved to TBS Crossfire eco system. Easy to update and also very tried and tested.
Nishant Pinto I have full size XF as well but find myself using R9M 2018 with Bluetooth mod more. It works with GS apps I use with inav unlike XF. My XF has Bluetooth but only seems to work with Ardupilot and even that’s hit and miss from what I’m hearing. Also like the availability of R9 RX’s and price compared to tbs.
I won’t even get into the rssi craziness with XF that I’ll probably never understand.
I’m still rocking the old R9M that I modded with Bluetooth. Also run XF full size module on a couple models but find myself using my old R9 more simply because one it’s simplicity of use and two Bluetooth works with inav ,Betaflight , and antenna tracking.
My XF full module has Bluetooth also but it doesn’t work with inav, betaflight to transmit Telemetry to android device app like Telemetry viewer and EX-Gui. XF Bluetooth only seems to work with QGC and even that’s hit and miss trying to get proper handshake from the Bluetooth
Hello, any tutorial to Bind the R9 MX. I cant get it
The R9MX seems to be impossible to wire with F/port Sport confusion...
I want to connect FrSky R9 SX reciever to OMNIBUS F4 V3 flight controller, but can not find any connections diagram for FrSky R9 SX. I need to know wich wire need to be connected to FC for transmitting and reciveng data from R9 SX. On the top of R9 SX I see marking: -, +, , AIN2, SBUS OUT, SBUS IN pins. I guess the pin with need to be connected to PPM SBUS pin on FC. I'm right?
Enjoyed that.... Will follow with interest.
I started my venture into RC quads with the 2019 R9 (red module) and the r9mm receiver's and they worked fine.
I'm currently using crossfire now (micro module) and I think I prefer this for ease of use.
However I'm looking forward to your next tests.
With ACCESS or ACCST?
Its unfortunate that frsky didnt allow for flashing back to accst on the new receivers, time to give my money to express LRS now i guess. What a shame.
Still using the "old stuff" but following your always informatif posts
The old R9mm recievers ,i bought 7 of them worked only 3!
I understand that the R9mm ota can be flashed with accst flex firmware?
Hi, thanks for your comment, yes R9mm Ota be flashed with Accst Firmware, even with flex! All Modules and Receivers are backward compatible! Maybe except of the new r9 sx and mx. About the R9MM, there was a bad batch of this receivers released. I never had any issues with my R9mm and R9mini Receivers. So you probably got the bad batch :(
Did you try to contact FrSky or your dealer about that already known issue?
I am also in the same situation. 5 old R9mm EU LBT bought. One has never worked. One became very strange I loose the bind when plugging the batery once and have to rebind it, then it occurs more and more frequently. On the third one I had failsafe around 100 meters. I wonder if I had better to use flex firmware. Today I can't see it on frsky site.
@@TorbanDallas Torban thanks fore the respons will buy some r9mm ota's fore spare support in Holland says the user is to blame fore the most time! Frsky dos not respond i have the rescue mode working thanks to your vids!!
When comes your review to the r9 SX? Currently I am using R9mm, but want to change to the r9 SX cause of the 2 antennas. You are the only guy who testing the r9 series amazing professional. I am up to 1,5Km and hope with the r9 SX I get more Stapel to 2km or 4km. :-)
I already did a video about the r9 sx :)
Ohh... Than I miss it :-( can you give me a Link. I don't find it. How far did you fly?
hello I can't link the r9m module with the r9sx any help thanks
Well! I need help!
After flashing the external module r9. When I register the r9mx but didn't register.
Please advise !!
Thanks
make sure also to flash your receiver with the access firmware
Hello. How are the antennas oriented in the model ?
I have used R9 and the system for the whole has not increased my confidence that I will avoid failsafes at even .25 miles out. If you look at the Mavic Mini these can fly supposedly out to 2 KM and I never hear of failsafes with them - I wish we could get that kind of safety and certainty out of long range systems. It seems you can for the more powerful receivers like the R9 Slim but not for micro quads.
Hi, did you check my other videos? even 2km on a pretty low altitude with only 10mw is possible. I also did a 4km long range flight. Make sure to use the newest firmware version on your rx and your transmitter and also the matching antennas for your frequency (EU or FCC)
Sounds like you have mismatched firmwares. Ive been using r9 flex firmware with accst for years and ive never had any failsafes.
Is" R9 SX" compatible with "FrSky Taranis Q X7 ACCESS 2.4GHz 24CH Mode2 Transmitter with R9M 2019"?
How FrSky sent you these, Can I too get these from FrSky?
It's not available on banggood.
The bad thing about that receiver is, the old radio without ACCESS protocol cannot bind. Meaning we had to buy new radio, no way... if gonna buy new radio, definitely not frsky.
Except of the new SX and MX Receivers, all other ACCESS Modules and Receivers are backward compatible! It's like buying a car and in a few years the manufacture releases a new version of this car, if you want the new one with its new features, you also need to buy the new car - but the old car still drives fine - like the old FrSky Radios, the Accst Protocol and the Receivers are working very good!
Did you test the R9 SX?
Hello, any tutorial to Bind the R9 SX. I cant get it
Well, to be honest, I even did record the steps of binding the receiver, but i didn't create a video about it, it takes a lot to do this type of videos and i already did a very detailed video about binding the new access receivers, and it's pretty the same with this r9 sx receiver. Check my all you need to know video ruclips.net/video/4_sc-Vc5F1k/видео.html
Nice video Torban as always you always do a good job but..it would be nice to have a comparative between TBS crossfire and FRSKY. I'm currently using R9M mini receiver but my Radio is a X9D plus SE. it uses Accst protocol. Is very sad I cant enjoy this new reveiver R9MX.
I have always heard Crossfire is 99% RSSI almost guaranteed. I'm seriously considering it.
Hi thanks. The Accst Protocol is great as well. I'm not considering to compare it with crossfire because I don't own it and it's pretty expensive too. Or would you like me to join me testing the r9m and to compare it with your Crsf system 😁
@@TorbanDallas When I get the Crossfire I will fly to Germany and then we can test both systems lol👏👏👏
@@Ger.FPV2023 OK!
@@TorbanDallas Torban, just to clarify, I will not be able to use the MX receiver because it uses a different protocol than my radio right?
Is twitching and step rc signal in blackbox log, this kind of problems have been fixed with r9m 2019 on the latest ACCESS firmware?? I' m planning ti buy r9m 2019, and use it with access with this new mx receiver but i m finding someone who knows something more about before buy it.... Can u share a log with this one for example...
Can you please help with R9 SX connection? I've connected just 3 wires - ground, 5v, and sbus out and when I'm powering this thing up - I'm not able to bind to my FrSky X7 TaranisQ. Do I need to connect other 3 wires (smart port, ain2, sbus in)? If so, where should I connect it to? I'm using Mamba F405 DJI Lite
Does the smaller one support telemetry? I am planning to by the r9m but looking for a receiver that will provide flight controller data to my tx16s
Do you have any solution to use the R9m 2019, external Modul (+R9MX) with the Jumper Pro T18? I can`t bind it!
Thank you very much for this video.. Great news
Thank you!
hmmm, these might make me keep my r9 system. i am confidently using the flex firmware at the moment and dont want to change because i use an old x9d. will these new receivers accept the flex firmware?
Yes these new resevers like all r9 receiver can be flashed with the fcc, EU or flex firmware. Even all access receivers are backward compatible and can be flashed with the accst protocol - but it seems like these new ones are especially made for the access protocol only. But we will see it when frsky releases the official firmware.
Hi, I need help. My R9 2018 with mm receiver has a max. 500meters range in open space. Some suggestions for me?
Thank you.
Hi, take a look at my FrSky R9M Failsafe Troubleshooting Video - Make sure to mount your antennas properly and also to use the right antennas for your frequency and also to use the latest firmware.
Nice Video! I have seen that you use two 4s Batteries in Parallel for your long range flight. Could you maybe do a little video about how you do this or explain it to me? I have seen a parallel adapter on Banggood that I would use for this but I'm kinda "scared" and don't know if it is worth it and what kind of flight time I can expect. I would really appreciate it if you could explain these things to me:)
Keep it up!
Hi, thanks for your comment, my adapter is just a parallel adapter, not really worth it to make a video about it and it's pretty the same as the one from banggood that is made for connecting two batteries in parallel. for example, some Lipos not only named 4s, some also named 4s2p what also means, 4 cells in Seriel like a normal 4s lipo, and 2 of these 4s lipos in parallel - the same like connecting two identical batteries in parallel. Connecting in parallel doesn't change the voltage, but it adds the amps of both batteries. a 1500 4s Batteries connected in parallel with a second 1500 4S Battery = a 3000mah 4s Battery. On my other long Range videos, you can see, that i almost double my flight time. But of course, my quad gets also heavier so it only works well on a 7 inch quad.
Still no true diversity transceiver like XF has. So be aware having two antennas on these slim And SX isn’t really an advantage
How do you know that the new SX has no true diversity? Anyway, it has the redundancy function, a big advantage over the crossfire receivers imo.
Torban Dallas I don’t see two transceivers on the SX you showed. Plus The Slim+ when FIRST released had specs saying it was a diversity receiver until they was confronted that it’s not even antenna diversity. Then they changed the spec descriptions to just say dual antenna which honestly doesn’t have any advantages if not at least used on a board that carries the processing chip to make antenna diversity. XF full size RX has true diversity with two transceivers on the board.
I would at least like to see Frsky add True antenna diversity and not just slap 2 antennas on a board and think that fools us into thinking we have an advantage. It’s actually a disadvantage when it’s implemented the way They have without a process chip for antenna diversity. Js.
Frsky get with it!!
Having dual antennas on a single transceiver serves no real Benifits. At least add a switching chip between transceiver and antennas so you have actual antenna diversity. Implemented the way you have these does nothing. Actually can cause reflection and polarization multipathing which can diminish receiving and transmitting to an extent.
So glad they changed the crap antenna
I’ve had tons of problems with Frsky’s receivers lately, specifically the R9MM. Hopefully this new one registers, binds, stays binded, binds quickly upon power-up, and doesn’t give telemetry warnings at close range during a flight.
Sounds like a bad receiver.
The R9MM has a bad reputation. So I only use R9 Mini and Slim+'s.
do can my R9M ACCST flash to R9M ACCESS?
No you only can flash the r9m 2019 with the new access protocol.
Hallo Torban,
Over The Air Update Funktion verzichten müssen.
Hello, how to bind R9MX please ..
Could you show how to flash R9MX and how you plug on FC please
Bind Bottom on Rx are bad quality. I have 3 broken. With out any crashes or accidents
I have never broken a bind button on my FrSky Receivers - btw I have protected all my receivers in a shrinking tube, you only have to make sure that the shrinking tube isn't pressing on the bind button.
@@TorbanDallas FRSKY should put best bind buttons in XM+ and 9r mm. It's not even a button it's a piece of thin metal that makes contact with two surfaces.
Do you have new driver for r9 mx ?
You do mean the Firmware? My one comes pre-flashed - there's no official firmware released yet.
What does telemetry feedback do?
It's Telemetry, the receiver also talks with your radio and transmits rssi, voltage and so on values from your quad back to your Radio.
@@TorbanDallas I'm sorry, I wasn't totally clear.
"The light-weight protective shell has a Multi-use 6-pin plug to bring you
additional functions like signal redundancy, telemetry feedback, external battery detection and more."
- Signal redundancy is referring to sbus in and out, so multi receiver redundancy.
- external battery detection is referring to an Analog in pin.
I was referring specifically to the telemetry feedback on the "multi use 6-pin" plug. I noticed while checking the manual that it is just a smart port pin?
I also noticed that pwm pin 6 can be used as smart port pin, instead of pwm. Why would we use two smart port pins?
Btw...thanks for the great video!😀
Expected price difference?
I have absolutely no idea, but I expectit will be a bit more expensive as the R9Slim+ and R9Mini Ota Receivers.
@@TorbanDallas that would not be a smart business strategy IMO.
@@heartpilotOB Maybe, I really don't know the price. Maybe it's less expensive than the already existing receivers at the release - I really don't know
@@heartpilotOB Agreed, especially since TBS lowered the price of their Crossfire Nano receivers to $24.95.
