Peterson was NOT protesting the protection of Trans people - he was protesting compelled speech. The Canadian Gov was telling people what they HAD TO SAY.

Thank you for your polite reply - that is getting to be rare today. The point I was trying to raise is that JP is being misquoted and it's happening more and more. When Ana opened her argument I felt that she completely left that part out. If she is going to critique someone then I feel that she should be as accurate as possible.
Because you were polite to me I am NOT going to Google the correct answer (in fact I kind of hate that approach) but I have read through the bill C16. Is that the one you are referencing? I am NOT from Canada so I just glanced through it. However, I have come to be a real fan of JP because I worked as a psychologist for 14 yrs. I am a fan of his common sense approach and emphasis on people controlling their feelings rather than letting feelings guide us.
I seem to remember JP bringing up the point of being put in jail for NOT using the proper pronouns. A lawyer countered "No you will receive a fine" to which JP replied "What happens if I do not ever pay the fine?" and that point was NEVER addressed again.
I will be real honest - since I am NOT from Canada I have not dug into these bills but I have become a real fan of JP. Seriously Thomas - the media is flat out lying about him and attempting to assasinate his character. Unless there is a HUGe amount of speech that I have not heard from him (and I have looked) - then this seems to be a work to discredit him as a psychologist.

There are NO laws in Canada that compel speech, they only restrict speech, and these laws are contained in the criminal code and human rights act, not bill C16.

    • @SarastistheSerpent

This is a blatant lie. C-16 only added gay and trans people to the protected class charter so that anyone who murdered a trans person could be charged with a hate crime, which wasn’t possible before. There was nothing in the bill about any kind of speech, let alone compelled speech.

he said “the ignorant left” meaning the ignorant portion of the left, not meaning that the entire left is ignorant. So he wasn’t saying that the entire left wants equality of outcome, just the ignorant portion of the left.
Edit: Also Jordan Peterson says all the time that the left is important because it seeks to make sure masses of people don’t get stuck at the bottom of hierarchies and destabilize society. So him wanting monogamy so that masses of involuntary celibates don’t get stuck at the bottom of the hierarchy and destabilize society makes perfect sense.

    • @mobiusdrip1615
      @mobiusdrip1615 4 года назад +2

Broadstreet Flyers95 He never said that minorities aren’t discriminated against and he strongly supports equality of opportunity, meaning blacks, whites, asians, men, women, etc. should all be given the same opportunity for success. He is just against enforcing equality of outcome because, while there is a lot of discrimination that happens, there are also many other reasons why people end up in different jobs with different salaries, which vary person to person. Therefore, it would be extremely dangerous to try to force equality of outcome for any reason but especially on the basis of an oppressor vs oppressed narrative because (ironically) that’s how we end up with extremely oppressive societies like the Soviet Union or Mao’s China which killed 100s of millions of people in the 20th century.
I do get pissed off though when corporations don’t let employees wear their hair certain ways (unless it’s a safety hazard if their is heavy machinery and stuff it could get caught in) or have tattoos and stuff like that, but i’m not entirely sure if the corporations are to blame. They’re just think it’ll hurt their profits. For example if a grocery store has a dude with cool hair and a bunch of tattoos checking people out, there might be (as stupid as it is) a lot of older people who get rubbed the wrong way by this and next time they might decide to go to a different store which doesn’t hire people that look like that. I don’t think this will last though because the culture changes from generation to generation and I think people from younger generations are generally more excepting of tattoos and unique hairdos. So when the older generation gets replaced i’d bet that corporations stop discriminating based on hairdos and tattoos.
Clothes on the other hand don’t seem too relevant because most jobs make you wear a uniform anyway.

Equality (of opportunity) gets shat all over by leftists as ineffective. 5) Enforced monogamy does not mean holding a gun to a woman's head forcing her to mate with a man.

Ana, as someone who used to LOVE TYT but has been alienated by the extreme Left (of which I think TYT has become) and has found conservatives and classical liberals to be the only ones defending free speech, respectful discourse, and not screaming "No Borders!", I would LOVE to see you have Jordan Peterson on to discuss your differences and commonalities! DO NOT LET CENK DO THE INTERVIEW! You are much less dogmatic than Cenk and I think you'd actually be capable of having a productive discourse. I think you misunderstand Peterson (he isn't speaking "to men", he's speaking to EVERYONE, it's just that men are very marginalized in the public discourse currently and so anyone who addresses their needs is immediately seen as a right wing MRA), but I REALLY appreciate that you TRIED to understand him and represent him in good faith, something which Cenk does not do to people who he disagrees with (cough-Sam Harris-cough) and which has led TYT to become dogmatic ideologues who forsake nuance in favour of expedient tribalism.
There's hope for you to come out of your bubble yet, Ana. As a young woman myself I always admired you, and I was so incredibly dissapointed when I saw TYT go down the road of Trump Derangement Syndrome (no, I am not a Trump supporter, I just think one should be VERY careful before one compares detainment of illegal migrants to Holocaust concentration camps!), and "democratic" socialism. You guys give no context to your opponent's viewpoints, and while that is perhaps an inevitable result of a daily news show, I think you have become lazy ideologues who mis-characterize and mis-represent whenever it is convenient and are never willing to moderate your views or find middle ground. You never address the legitimate criticisms of modern feminism, leftism, and socialism, instead relying on strawmans of your opponents as all radical right wingers who hate people with brown skin. There is nothing honest about that - you are being intellectually lazy. And while I know it's so much harder to admit your side isn't always right and that the other side might have answers you don't have, and nuance is less popular in the short term than extremism, it is a far better strategy to pull yourself back from the Us vs Them, Left vs Right edge and realize that there is a center, and that that is a good place to be.
There is a reason why the "members" of the Intellectual Dark Web have thousands upon thousands of people who will listen to them discuss ANY topic for a few hours at a time - it is because people are craving nuance over polarization, humility over certainty, honesty over pride. Please, PLEASE attempt to embark on that journey of nuanced thought - the only way to start is to engage with those who you oppose (no, I'm not talking legitimate headcases like RIchard Spencer, but people like Peterson, the Weinstein brothers, even Sargon of Akkad!), on GOOD FAITH TERMS, to truly LISTEN to them and to embark on each discussion with the pursuit of truth and understanding for both parties as the end goal, rather than willfully mis-characterizing to reinforce divisions.
I would love to see you try to do this Ana - we all need to, if we're going to live on this damn rock together.
    All the best,
    Claire, 24, from Vancouver BC.

Peterson has some crazy ideas on some subjects (eg religion), but you have misrepresented his views on free speech. It's one thing to disagree, it's a different matter to misrepresented. JP is not against naming trans by their chosen pronoun, he is against doing this by legislation, he is against government compelled speech.
You are also so wrong on equality of outcome.
First, JP did not say the left promulgates this, he said this is advocated by 'ignoreng left', i.e a part of the left.
Second, a significant, even if not a majority, of the left does promulgate equality of outcome. You are right that majority of the left advocate for equality of opportunity, but every time someone puts forward the 77 cents on the dollar women make without considering any differences in choices is making a statement that they would like the ratio to be 1.0 rather than 0.77. This is the very definition of equality of outcome. Obama also said this once without addressing any differences in choices between genders. So a significant subset of the left do speak about equality of outcome. Fact. Nobody said mjority.
JP says a lot of crazy stuff, no doubt, but misrepresentating his views does not help in dismantling them. Please do a little better job at understanding his views and statements.

You have got to be blinded by your own bias to think Peterson didn't lose that debate.
      From Wiki:
"Journalists reported that Peterson made many factual errors about Marx and Marxism, such as misunderstanding the fundamental principle of the labor theory of value, incorrectly associating Marx broadly with identity politics, and denying the existence of a Marxist philosophy of nature[10]. Critics claimed that he was uninformed about The Communist Manifesto and generally ill-prepared for the debate[11], and that he was "completely vacuous", making claims such as that power is never achieved through the exploitation of people"

He never said wealth inequality was good. He simply said he didn't have a solution for it. He literally said it wasn't good because it destabilises a society. So his views on monogamy aline perfectly with his views on wealth. He is thinking about the destabilisation of society.
    What a monster!

Here in Canada our prime minister made sure half of his cabinet was female. Why? Because it was 2015. That was an example of equality of outcome, regardless of whether the ministers were the best candidates for the positions. In spite of himself, he did a better job than even he hoped by appointing Jodi Wilson-Raybould as Attorney General. She was better qualified for her position than Justin Trudeau was for his.

Damn the comments need to chill tf out. You have to understand that she did not write a 20 page paper; she made a ten minute video, much of which wasn't her speaking. There is only so much she can squeeze in. She did a good job of identifying specific issues with which she disagrees with Peterson, and gave a quick reasoning.
Peterson is a doctored professor with incredible debating skills. It stands to reason that most people are not going to be as good as he is at debating. That does not mean that Ana is not a good debater or illogical in any way. She did a good job at making her points and she's definitely smarter and more logical than a significant number of people in the comment section (10,000+ of you).
Some of y'all gotta chill on the "she'd get destroyed in a debate with him" and the "she's so dumb" and "everything she said was a strawman". She does overgeneralize a bit, as does Peterson, but people with large audiences and many disagree-ers cannot debate with every point from every person. I thought she made some valid points, and I thought she made some points that were invalid because they stretched his position a little too far. Doesn't mean she gotta get roasted to a crisp in the comments by Joe the Peterson Fanboy (apologies to all you chill Joes out there).
