He always tries to sound smarter than he is. And he's such a broken, hollow person. It's sad to watch Jordan Peterson. He was a fairly adequate professor, but a really poor therapist, and if he had just kept teaching and working on his professional skills in clinical interactions, maybe he would have been okay. Instead, he decided to milk the anti-trans wave and to make money from people who hate trans people. That was an ethical decision, and since then his life has gone off the rails. At one point, he had to be put into a medical coma because his daughter had put him on a beef and salt diet that he augmented with addictive drugs, and he lost his mind. Sad, broken man.
You say he was a poor therapist but his citation rate was very respectable. It's important to be able to discern the difference between expertise in one domain and a broad ability to speak with authority on anything. Clearly he's a pseudo-intellectual grifter, but he can be BOTH a perfectly good clinical psychologist as well as those other things.
Hollow is an excellent descriptor of Peterson. As a researcher turned clinician myself, I'm glad you highlighted his (un)ethical decision, which flies in the face of professional ethics codes, at least here in the U.S. I'd like to believe that his ongoing mental breakdown is due at least in part to the remnant of a decent human being somewhere inside him grappling with the monstrosity of what he has become.
Kanye West, Herschel Walker, Rudi Giuliani, Paula White, Shane Vaughn, Kenneth Copeland, Kent Hovind, Jim Bakker, Jordan Peterson, Kat Kerr - they're all grifters who're also as mad as meataxes.
How in the world can people on the right have any respect for any of these people?
The grifters express hate for the same people they hate.

He is a credible philosopher and psychologist.....He was brought on TO BE intellectual and provoke thought dummy. A simple yes or no is all you need to believe anything in this word that forsure clear. You don't need any evidence at all and you certainly don't even need to believe yourself for that matter. Im tired of seeing people hate on JP for no reason. If you watch again he is really trying to be open to as many people as possible by being the opposite of philosophical and intellectual. The "What do you mean by..." questions are just pure outlines for the ideas revolving around the complexity of words and context. It basically illustrates how when you REALLY want to get to the bottom of a question, you can't lie to yourself, so asking these essential questions and breaking down the fundamental sentence by each word can help to figure out the real truth in what you believe. Make any sense at all? JP is awesome at taking his very intellectual ideas and merging them into this "child like" fashion so that you can actually think critically and brainstorm. He was a professor at some top schools so that kind of thinking is basically rooted right into him. But really, watch it again, it makes sense. (That is given you have a high enough IQ)

My favorite fact about Jordan Petersen is i actually read a psychology paper by him when researching for my seminar in cognition during my undergrad. I then read a paper using his as a foundation that talked about how the personality qualities Jordan Petersen was researching are related to being susceptible to something scientifically called, Pseudo Profound Bullshit(PPBS) no this isn't a joke. And the paper talked about how as long as the syntax of a sentence is technically correct and interesting vocab variety is used, people of low intelligence rank the statements as really profound.....

The most impressive thing Peterson has ever done, is the fact that he has to be debunked by so many different disciplines, because he talks about so much stuff he doesn't understand. From Biologist, to the Bar association of Canada, economics, fellow psychologists, philosophers, even supermodels are making fun of him. I'd di e of embrassement if I said even half the amount of things he has that were just so wrong and easily debunkable. Just the line about staying awake for 27 days due to Apple Cider would be too much on it's own. Yet for Peterson he just goes on, it's fascinating how one man can have such an undeserved ego and prefers to be ignorant on every topic he talks about, he is the defintion of Dunning Kruger.

I continue to be baffled that Jordan Peterson, a CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST, is not self-aware enough to realize that his own psyche isn't well and he himself is in desperate need of therapy.

@@fustercluck2460 -- I do agree that we have a profoundly sick society, however, JP has delusions of grandeur and mild paranoia that he does not seem to recognize in himself. As a clinical psychologist he should, for example, ask himself why trans people make him SO upset and triggered, and what is it he's really afraid of and why...
Also, perhaps ask himself why he cries for incels and bases his whole view of women on the "plight" of men who struggle to get laid. Perhaps he's projecting his own teenage experiences of being the nerd in high school that didn't get a lot of girls. I don't know. But after seeing the tenth video of him crying about random shit, I don't understand why he doesn't get therapeutic help and do some psychoanalysis, since that's his area of expertise.

He has repeatedly said he has no problem with trans people, and neither do I, the problem is when they try and FORCE speech. You can live your life however you want so long as you aren't hurting anyone, it's my libertarian philosophy after all.. but when you begin to force your ideology on others is when it becomes a problem...
For instance, let's say that I was very religious.. what if I made it law that you HAD to pray before every meal?
Unfortunately, I've known a good number of incredibly damaged people practicing psychotherapy. For some, it's the reason they got into the field, but for others it's just the way clients will stroke your ego all day if you convey that need to them. Fortunately for the world, I believe I read that Peterson stopped practicing (as a psychologist) several years back. I don't know the Canadian ethics codes, but based on the codes here in the U.S., he probably would've lost his license at some point if he didn't.
I hope I'm not the only one who has no idea what the hell he's talking about.

*Also Conservatives:* "No sex before marriage, though. And also ban contraception."

Your bound to live in poverty now because we want you to have zero support from society you don't get child tax credit, you don't get money for eduction for the children you don't get support for housing costs you don't even get parental leave and your minumum wages stays at 7 dollar for the next century because we only ever support tax cuts for millionars and billionaires .....

There is already a solution for those men and a place for them to go. The men and boys who feel isolated and depressed need to go to therapy. I'm serious. These self-help grifters and pseudo-intellectuals are not going to help them in a healthy way. I would say if you can't go to therapy then go see a life coach, but I don't really like life coaches either, and they lack certification. Therapy is not just for women; it's for everyone. Everyone can benefit from learning about themselves in an objective way via a professional. Your problems may not be your fault, but they are your responsibility to work through.
Thank you for saying this! As a therapist, I want to bang my head on the wall when I hear people say there's nowhere for men to go. I help men every day--and I don't try to sell them my political ideology. I don't think all the self-help stuff is bad, but a genuine human connection is often important. Moreover, there has been a huge effort in the mental health community over the past couple of decades to do better outreach to men, but the right poisons people against the mental health field and indoctrinates people with a self-destructive ideology of completely self-sufficient hypermasculinity. It's maddening.

I think Jordan Peterson has finally tied himself into semantic knots with this - "what do you mean by 'happen'?" Well, I think most people would consider that if an event was factual, it happened, and if it was invented, it didn't happen (even if something similar did). So an historic account represents something that happened, whereas and allegory does not.

My Friend was a massive Jordan Peterson fan, pushing me to read his books and watch his interviews, he really saw him as a role model. He was becoming really insufferable with his political views, parroting Peterson and falling further and further to the right, it was becoming really difficult to remain friends with him. Thankfully, THANKFULLY he (somehow) got a girlfriend, who brought him back to reality and calmed him. Haven't been recommended anything Peterson realated since and he is back to being a level headed once again.
He just needed to get laid. Okay, cool story lol.

Sadly, your friend is probably in the lucky minority. I can't think of a woman I know who would get involved with a guy spouting this male supremacist nonsense. Short of actually dating them, which would be a pretty unpleasant and potentially self-damaging undertaking, and impractical for those of us who are attached, I don't know what women can do to break through that wall of resentment. I guess it boils down to trying to be friendly to these men in the workplace and in social settings, but as a society we're becoming increasingly disconnected from those in-person interactions, and these are *exactly* the guys who misinterpret friendliness and refuse to take no for an answer. I don't understand how anyone can follow someone blindly who just got out of a "severe" benzo addiction". Yes, anyone can be an addict, and certainly people can come out of it in a better place than before (or not), but for someone who is an influencer, esp on academic, political, and philosophical matters, you have to question his work while he was under such influence, and possibly after, like this word salad. (I won't even mention his crazy, unhealthy diet of meat, salt and water). Peterson's shtick relies on his ability to think clearly, one would think, and soberly, as anyone you rely on for such weighty matters, as he is, after all, a psychologist. I guess I assume that people are somewhat discerning. But what does "discerning" mean lol? My idea of absolute hell is going to him for therapy.

Carnivorous diets are super healthy according to a mix of anecdotes, controlled studies and human anthropology (we've spent most of our existence getting the bulk of our calories from meat and only drinking water. This claimed need for variety is certainly a recent phenomenon for human beings and certainly a rare phenomenon for animals considered generally: cows, sharks, bees and lions eat pretty much the same thing all their lives and they don't seem to weaken and decay like modern humans on their varied diets. Animals thrive pretty much throughout their lives, like ancestral humans on their unvaried diets)
