Canadian here: This guy had a tenured position in a prestigious university in Quebec, He quit (actually suggested he leave). He got involved with leftwing politics, a supporter. They figured out in a few months he was a goof and was expelled. Then he went to the west and involved himself with rightwing politics and was also expelled within a few months as a nutbar. He went to the US and got a tenured position in a university and quit less then 2 years later. Now he runs around trying to get attention anywhere. A lot of what he says, nobody can figure what he is talking about. Ignore him, he is a whiny poor poor pity me goof. Don't give this guy the time of day.

He has presented a clear argument about male oppression on his conversation with Helen Lewis. You seem have an awful lot of time for someone you claim to dislike. Psychology is threaded throughout most aspects of our lives - whether it be the lockdowns, the psychological effects of the current gender hysteria or social media. He's more qualified to speak on most subjects than the majority of those barking their hatred of him on here.

I do not follow Jordan, but I'd choose to listen to someone giving solid basic advice to men, rather then someone telling men that whites need to check their privilege, and that females are oppressed victims that we must cater to in order to make their lives easier. Indeed that 2nd part is what LEFTISTS preach.
JP is an unimpressive man who impresses the even less impressive.
Cenk summarised it perfectly: "he's a poor man idea of an intellectual". He says a lot of fancy words and often speak with authority. But when you dig, it's often non sensical, lacking in facts and very unkind. His attack on Elliott Page were particularly despicable.
I thought the phrase "stupid man's intellectual" was more apt.
I've never heard someone who loves to hear their self talk more than this guy. The only problem is, most of what he says is rambling nonsense. Just because you can put 18 seven syllable words in one sentence doesn't mean there is any substance behind what you say.
Notice that every time he gets a hard question, he answers with a question. That´s the deflection method used by politicians and ignorant people.

He said men can argue and then 'go outside and settle their differences [with a fist-fight]' but since he can't do that to a woman (i.e. he can't just punch tf out of a woman) he doesn't know how to handle a woman. I'd perhaps clarify that he doesn't know how to argue/disagree/converse about ANY sort of contention with a woman rather than just 'he can't talk to' them... but really, that's a LOT of what conversing is. So essentially, it boils down to the same thing.
(He also thinks women wear lipstick because it makes them looks more sexually appealing to men, which honestly just tells me he's simply never spoken to a real woman in his life (I know he's married - I don't care). Never in my LIFE have I met a woman who put on lipstick "for a man". Jordan just has a teeny tiny worldview but thinks it's a huge, meaningful world. I'd almost feel sorry for him if he wasn't such an utter git.)

Peterson's only area of expertise is in treating alcoholics on the Alcoholics Anonymous religious 12 step program. As a devout Catholic, he took offense to Canada's hate speech laws, the ones protecting LGBTQ community particularly. He claimed you could be charged with a criminal offense for using the wrong pronoun. He was laughed out of the country.

Watching Jordan Peterson has been painful for a very long time, long before he began to fall apart!
There is only one reason I can think of for trying to make some sense of it. You see, he’s not a fellow-traveller, taking advantage of the extreme right-wing, he’s a true believer. That set of right-wing beliefs, that he helped to advance is now in danger of facing a stunning defeat. When that happens all the fellow-travellers will run and hide and look for the next opportunity for graft. The true believers, the millions of them out there, will eventually face mental health issues that may be akin to what Peterson appears to already be in the midst of.
So, to get some sense of this, we need to consider his set of beliefs:
- He has a morality and world view that is full of the most extreme conservative beliefs, much like those shared by the right-wing evangelicals (approaching the Handmaid’s Tale).
- He is politically in the ballpark of the right-wing libertarians.
- He wants to believe that there is some religion, some higher power that will release him from all the contractions in his beliefs, but he's struggling to find that faith without introducing new contradictions.
*But*, he is *not* like your typical example of a right-wing talking head. He is different in two crucial ways:
- First, he's actually quite intelligent, he's well read, he believes in the truth, and he want's to believe both that he is right, and that he's doing the right thing.
- Second, he is not trying to divide people for political benefit, he doesn't believe the left is evil and the right is good. He believes that the left has evil beliefs and the right has good beliefs. And so he feels, like a missionary out to save souls, that he needs to aggressively convert people to the good beliefs.
So, why is he falling apart. Who knows? But recall that he believes that, if the influence of “the left-wing bias that constrains debate” is eliminated all the best people and ideas will rise to the top. Well, perhaps he is realizing that this idea is just not working out in practice. Those who have risen to the top are precisely the kind of people he would like to believe only existed on the left. He is facing the realization the many of the people who have risen to to the top in the right, like Trump, and Gaetz, and Green, despite their espoused beliefs, may actually be evil, and stupid, and losers.
You said all that to say he is having an existential crisis. He is also a misogynist, a intellect using it for evil and has been used as a lot of people have to push the rights dogma and become the fall guy when they have used you up. Discarded.

I've done my best to ignore him for many years, and through that time, he's become more and more prominent. Problem is that the crazy won't go away by itself. I would say he's a sensitive person, with empathy. I don't think there's anything bad in shedding off a few tears now and then. I'm someone who almost never cries andere I know I should more often. It relieves stress and it shows you're an open person. He's really critical on himself with an ability to admit mistakes. Compare him to the hosts of this show. My god what a difference. This is incredibly toxic.

He's clearly tried to get fame and notoriety and thus perhaps to profit from it, but getting a doctorate and then going on to teach and research for over 20 years before getting into that is not the typical route of a con man.

Isn’t he a recovering addict? This is a scene straight from a rehab circle where Jordan agrees to share. Tons of dudes in early recovery breakdown at the drop of a hat, it actually annoys the hell out of the other folks. The weeping willow men are some of the most annoying people you’ll encounter in rehab, believe you me. I don’t understand why Peterson keeps getting booked on high-profile podcasts just because he remembers how to tie a half-Windsor knot. The dude has always been a pseudo-intellectual charlatan, and now he doesn’t even bother making sense anymore, and yet he’s still in the public sphere. Go home Jordan, you’re done. Find a local AA or NA chapter and go weep for them.
It's true some ppl cry all the time in withdrawal but it's not for emotional reasons, it's really just physical, the same way that you yawn or get a runny nose, you get a hair trigger crying reflex over the weirdest stuff, most of it not sad at all.

I write and a character of mine says this phrase a lot. Why?
Because as an abused child, the only 'reality' she had was the abuse she suffered and the pain of it. Anything beyond that was something so far outside of her understanding it didn't seem believable, or 'real'.
So it's a little like what Cenk said.
But she picks 'pain' because that was her early experience and the most 'real' she feels in her life, is when she is in some kind of pain.
But then she also knows she's messed up due to her childhood abuse and trauma. (and this is just a character I write about that knows this, not a real person)
