3:16 I love this possession. First goes over the top on the sideline ball screen, probably a team defensive scheme with the intention to trap sideline. You can see Jrue throwing his arms out into the passing lane as John Collins begins his roll to prevent Trae Young from dumping off a pocket pass to the roll man. Now on offense, often times teams are taught to hit the roll man on his cut with a swing, which is probably why Trae Young passed the ball to the corner. This allows a better angle to hit the roll man (John Collins). However, Jrue sees this and immediately switches and full sprints to recover to the roll man. I will say that I do think he was a bit late recovering, and Bogi should've touch passed it to John Collins immediately (lead the pass so it doesn't get picked off by the trailing Jrue) then they would've had a floater or a lob to Capela. But Brook Lopez was in the right spot on the help side and he could've very likely gotten a hand on the ball because of his length. Maybe that's why Bogi didn't pass it. Good close out from PJ also made the passing angle harder to find. Anyways, Jrue recovers, the ball gets swung out to Huerter at the top of the key and Middleton gets beat on the close out. Jrue is now in the paint because he switched onto Collins. He recognized Middleton getting beat, and the first thing he does is anticipate the drive and he steps in front of Huerter direct driving lane to take a charge. You can see his stance getting low and square and his arms reaching for his crotch. But Huerter fades away to the left to get more space for the floater (you can see this working on Middleton since he ended up jumping way outside of where Huerter was). Jrue recognized this so quickly, and this accredits his athleticism and reaction time, he exploded out of his "charge stance" and not only contested but also blocked Huerter's floater. This was such an impressive possession for Jrue as a defender.

I've realized that a lot of times when going over the top on screens, Jrue would almost make himself vertical to minimize the area of contact with the screener. By being vertical he also reduces the chances of running into the ball handler and he is able to explode out of that position to recover onto the ball handler or get in front of the roll/pop man on a switch. He also times the "being vertical" moment very well so that he doesn't get his back knocked loose by the screen and he has ample time to recover to the ball.
i noticed the same bc i was wondering how he was able to completely avoid screens while going OVER them and even still beating the ball handler to position, often causing turnovers…unbelievable timing, footwork, intuition, creativity, and ridiculous skill.
