I've always loved Pridgen because you can just tell he loves to play the drums. And he's so tight and an all around amazing player. He'll always be my favorite
that's what I love from thomas, his brutal display of power. there is no subtle way of delivering the message it is just as strong as it is, so deal with it.
My eyes and ears just blowed a load wow he's got some of the fastest hands i have ever seen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Those drums was glad when he stopped haha!!! He is phenomenal no doubt!!!!!!!!
@snorpthus i agree. Pridgen has this intense, clearly evident style of gospel chops while still incorporating a rock feel. His work with The Mars Volta proves it. This dude's brilliantly talented.
@FrizzyDiouleBiGbonus What are you talking about? Thomas is just as creative, listen to what he's playing, listen to the work he's done. Listen to ANYTHING he does, he's all about creativity and free expression. His patterns are unorthodox, you can recognize his playing a mile away. Thomas Pridgen is not only good for music, he's one of a handful in his generation pushing the boundaries of music.
i kinda agree about the dynamics in this vid. You do need all sorts of dynamics to keep it interesting. but at the same time, thats what hes going for. dont doubt his full range of dynamics off one clip.
It was a joke man. He is fantastic, he has worked his whole life to be who he is today. Don't be so quick to judge and don't wish unconsciousness on someone either dude.
@arthurkitchen I do know that Ray Luzier has sick poly rhythms and is really constructive in playing, but the definition of "playing" by the word itself that's just got to be Thomas Pridgen and I also know that this wasn't his best solo, hehe... Try listening to Christian Scott's album entitled "Rewind That" check the tracks titled: Say it, Suicide, Kiel (by the way it's jazz) and also Zenith Patrol, tracks titled: State of grace, New joppi, Big easy. Of course drums are by Pridgen.
EVEN THIS IS UP TO DATE DRUM TECHNIQUE ON DISPLAY I CANNOT HELP BUT THINK OF THE FELLOWS FROM THE SIXTIES WHEN I SEE O TOMMY BOY PLAYING I MEAN IN THE TRADITION ENERGY OF JIMMY HENDRIX JOHN BONHAM, THE AGE OF AQUARIUS PSYCHEDELIC THE WOODSTOCK EPIDEMIC YOU KNOW WHEN THOSE BANDS WOULD PLAY UNTIL THEY PASS OUT
I feel like there is a lineage with three specific drummers, chronologically starting with John Bonham, Danny Carey, then Thomas Pridgen. All three brought a certain POWER-HEAVY element of rock drumming to a similarly new level in each's respective time period. Danny Carey really brought the finesse and songwriting ability into this vein, and Pridgen is bringing in the "gospel chops". I guess it just sort of hit me how much of a ROCKER Pridgen is. Thoughts?
Well I realize that Dennis Chambers will tend to yell here and there. My mentor said it was because of frustration, which is understandable because I yell when I fuck up a beat. But the more I watch this video the more I thought I saw him clip himself, and with his strength that could really fuck a brother up.
The screams when he messes up make this ten times more epic.
Thomas Pridgen is truly a GOD amongst man when it comes to drumming! You have to be blind to not notice the passion in his playing!
I totally agree with that. He also got a cousin that plays drums too, except he play for Suicidal Tendencies and Bel Biv DeVoe.
Nathaniel Pace Eric Moore is Thomas Pridgen's cousin ?
Tom B Yup
So are you holy shit you're good
I've always loved Pridgen because you can just tell he loves to play the drums. And he's so tight and an all around amazing player. He'll always be my favorite
You know when he yells "AHHH," that there's a sick comeback lick about to go down!
When Animal goes on stage he wears Thomas Pridgen's face on his t-shirt.
So much fire, I have never seen a single musician play with this much passion.
that's what I love from thomas, his brutal display of power. there is no subtle way of delivering the message it is just as strong as it is, so deal with it.
Ronald Bruner is so awesome, so smooth and fast, but no young drummer plays such complex fills and grooves as this dude. Mind boggling at times.
I know Thomas since he was 10 years old. What a gifted young man. He is awesome on the drums. Go Tommy!! Walfredo Reyes SR
That, my friend, is Shedding... and it's magical.
WOW....he's so laid-back and just let's the song take over. You hardly notice he's playing!
still love your energy!!
THE JIMI HENDRIX OF DRUMMING
larry temp Exactly.
I thought the same, but now I think he is just Thomas Pridgen, a pure and authentic genius.
i love pridgen, but i cant agree :p
This guy has authority, holy goodness. I totally like the raw energy. Impossible to try this if you don't have endorsement deals, though.
Hahahah he has always reminded me of "ANIMAL PLAY DRUMS" I guess he thinks so as well. Love this guys drumming!

The sound of that biggest floor tom is making my bowels tremble.
My eyes and ears just blowed a load wow he's got some of the fastest hands i have ever seen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Those drums was glad when he stopped haha!!! He is phenomenal no doubt!!!!!!!!
Those floor toms are INSANE. X)
@snorpthus i agree. Pridgen has this intense, clearly evident style of gospel chops while still incorporating a rock feel. His work with The Mars Volta proves it. This dude's brilliantly talented.

I love the screams! hahah "AAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!"

I love how he DOESN'T have to do stick tricks to still be fucking brilliant.
Wow, that snare sounds totally awesome! What snare is that?
he's ticking time BOMB
It was a joke man. He is fantastic, he has worked his whole life to be who he is today. Don't be so quick to judge and don't wish unconsciousness on someone either dude.
@hamaknaflint I am not asking what I am about to ask you to be mean by any means, but what does the word "Noob" mean?
Jesus! Look at the size of those cymbals! Are those 16" hihats?
GOD!
AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
He's unique.
he can be my drummer any day of the week...
Anybody know the name of the track that he is playing?

He yells when he messes up or doesn't quite land on the one, but it's hard to hear him mess up because he plays so chaotic, yet so controlled too.
Whats the song in the background?
1:41 it was just the singe stroke roll played really fast but they were 30th notes not 16th notes
he has the best ghost notes.
EVEN THIS IS UP TO DATE DRUM TECHNIQUE ON DISPLAY I CANNOT HELP BUT THINK OF THE FELLOWS FROM THE SIXTIES WHEN I SEE O TOMMY BOY PLAYING I MEAN IN THE TRADITION ENERGY OF JIMMY HENDRIX JOHN BONHAM, THE AGE OF AQUARIUS PSYCHEDELIC THE WOODSTOCK EPIDEMIC YOU KNOW WHEN THOSE BANDS WOULD PLAY UNTIL THEY PASS OUT
The dude is gifted, but it would be nice to see him play dynamically. He always plays loud, never soft.

@FrizzyDiouleBiGbonus Technique without creativity means nothing. This guy is uber-creative. There's absolutely no way you can put him down.
wow! has he ever said why he uses such big hihats?
how did the stick not break?!!!?
that hi hat kills me
This makes me not wanna put up anymore of my fiddlers elbow drum video's on RUclips again!!!
If I could do single strokes half that fast....I don't know what but that would be awesome
@fastatlearninstuff he can groove hard my man, this is just a solo performance im sure that he can be calm and groove.

2:45 ...great
they're not mistakes when he does it
the 18" crash looks like a splash compared to his "usual setup"

Name of track?
'State of Grace'--Zenith Patrol.
WTF!!!@2:45
Fast Tripplets !!!
First time I've seen him with a shirt on.
Well I realize that Dennis Chambers will tend to yell here and there. My mentor said it was because of frustration, which is understandable because I yell when I fuck up a beat. But the more I watch this video the more I thought I saw him clip himself, and with his strength that could really fuck a brother up.
