Here's a highlight: 1:53:00 >Accessing his Pokémon team screen will crash the game (so no healing and no swapping out Pokémon) >He has no badges (so his Pokémon's move choice is completely random, rather than based on trainer's input) >He must RNG the move Rollout in order to ensure at least some damage (until it misses) >His current and ergo last Pokémon he can use has 24/300 hp left. >He has to defeat the Champion, Lance.
I have to admit that this is my favorite run of his for Pokemon Gold. I admire how determined he was to beat it and how well he took it when he didn't really beat it. He got so far with it and kudos to him for that because this shit is intense to say the absolute least.
That Lance battle with a shitload of misses. Best start of a battle ever. Had to be the best run I've watched in AGDQ 2013 simply because of how trivial the run was.
That guy way in the back wearing the hoodie looks like he's waiting for his chance to pounce. Seriously does he ever leave his seat at any point during the video?
Countdown starts at 4:56. It's a sequence of three numbers that are directly successive. It's also a three second long countdown. Half Life 3 Confirmed.
I haven't watched this video in years but it was this, especially the Yellow run at the end, which inspired me to both start running games and collect old video games, especially Pokemon
I can't help but think of all the things I would've done with this knowledge as a kid. I had a single Mew that I was always triple-checking carts for before wiping a save. I guess I can finally do a gen1&2 100% run without worry now, aside from those sketchy old cart batteries.
Saw this on my feed, so I immediately watched from start to finish. I loved this run so much! Even if you couldn't beat it on the big stage, you still did an amazing job going through all of this and making it very entertaining for us! Also, I feel for you with Croconaw not obeying you. I did a solo run once with the traded Onix right at the beginning. Man, that was hell because he wouldn't obey me... But nowhere near the hell you went through with this! xD
Why do you think they're so bad nowadays? While there were a lot of boring runs in this year's SGDQ, and a lot of boring runners that share none of their knowledge about the game, there were a bunch of good ones, esp. the first four or so and the SMM race.
They've become so boring and sanitised, you're not allowed to swear or anything because "Think of the children!" and that's just one example. This was from before gdq became a corporation
RedstonerProductions eyyy a reply since I made this post a while back, I've not really changed my opinion, but realized why people liked the old GDQ's more. The Jak and Daxter's run from this SGDQ comes to mind. Perfect proof of your point is seen in Werster's banning from GDQs. I think he had some sort of beef with the staff, but he's definitely not the sort of "kid-friendly" type of guy you'd see nowadays running
So this is hard to word without spoilers, did werster finish that game save he started off screen at ~2:36:20, and what video of the stream did it happen during, if it did?
These donations are such a great way to involve the community in helping out in addition to just donating for curing cancer (and by "these donations", I mean for various runs within the parameters of AGDQ/SGDQ/AwfulGDQ).
Those guys are nerds in the truest definition of the term. Those people who've played one Zelda game half way through and has a Zelda sleeve tattoo and proclaims himself as a "nerd" with pride are not.
They do. However they cannot do runs due to the shiny having an extremely long battle cry which literally ends up costing 3 seconds a battle. anywhere from 5-15 minutes in total based on rng
In a marathon setting, they could easily catch it, catch a regular one and stash away the shiny. The odds of getting one are too small, especially in a marathon.
I find glitches like this absolutely fascinating. Besides, it doesn't really ruin the game, as it's just as much fun to play normally. But as a speedrun, I expect it to be insane and game-breaking. Good run!
Yes. After a pokemon faints it brings you to the team screen to select the next one. Because he had more than 6 pokemon, going to this screen would crash the game (which is also why he couldnt heal)
Haha, I was one of the donation comments read out during the level up to 100... Had totally forgotten I'd donated during this game! It really took me by surprise just now!
Why is this being played on the gb player instead of the super gameboy or with the staduim 2 transfer pak? I heard that the colors are different and better
Even though the end of the Gold run was totally distressing, this was one of the coolest things I've seen. Also, it was really neat watching that famous TASing trick done in real-time on Pokemon Yellow, and seeing all sort of different things done with it. Lots of stuff I've never even heard of too, that map distortion glitch was way cool. The RNG was a bit of a dick during Gold though, yeeeesh. Murphy's law came into a play a bunch.
well, as you saw it 80% the aerodactyl and the gyrados has slightly more hp than it so it wouldn't have OHKO it. Rollout was the only choice and then pray for rock throw/rollout to work a 6th time.
Blaziken is Ubers tier, it's by far the best. Greninja and both forms of Mega Charizard come pretty close. Mega Swampert and Mega Venusaur come after that.
With that Glitch which got the pokémon to LVL100 would it not be quicker to capture a new pokémon after the glitch, then when in battle, change to it and kill the enemy, this would stop the huge long animation of them 1-by-1 leveling up 100 times and instead just instantly say they are level 100 right? that would save a good 6 minuets or something.
Here's a highlight: 1:53:00

if you read the description he did beat the game. Not sure if he meant on that save or if he restarted the game
I love that the thumbnail shows him resetting. That pretty much sums up the run.
"Yeah, Rage is extremely good in this game."
oh you little Werster boy, we know it is in every game you play :^)
FUCKING RED COM!
I have to admit that this is my favorite run of his for Pokemon Gold. I admire how determined he was to beat it and how well he took it when he didn't really beat it. He got so far with it and kudos to him for that because this shit is intense to say the absolute least.
"And that's my Croconaw trying to evolve into Geodude" -Checkmate atheists!
lmao
That Lance battle with a shitload of misses. Best start of a battle ever.
Had to be the best run I've watched in AGDQ 2013 simply because of how trivial the run was.
Love coming back to this every couple years, this is the video that introduced me to speedrunning and I love it
1:10:36 save corruption works, werster finally gets corrupt clones
thanks
"the game is actually quite happy right now" *immediately makes the poisoned sound*
Yoo wasn't expecting you in the comments
I miss your ladder vids, any plan in resuming them? :)
Man this seems so damn nostalgic now, what a good GDQ this was.
Werster looks like everything another person says pisses him off. LOL
He legit got pissed off at 32:13
you replied to him after 3 years? xd
Woah use less salt on your chips bloody hell
hey big guy that conversation was 10 months ago, your comment was 2 weeks ago, me writing this stuff was like 10 seconds ago bro bro bro
FreeCpRareAccounts1 for you
damn, the random encounters in this run were off the charts LOL
I could tell Werster was ready to kill himself over them.
That guy way in the back wearing the hoodie looks like he's waiting for his chance to pounce. Seriously does he ever leave his seat at any point during the video?
"fuck this fucking game!"
-Werster
Fuck this fucking game!-Werster 2013
Countdown starts at 4:56. It's a sequence of three numbers that are directly successive. It's also a three second long countdown. Half Life 3 Confirmed.
FUCK THIS FUCKING GAME!
-Werster 2013.
I liked AGDQ more around this time than now... though it's still pretty good.
41% lol
This was the best gdq, every run was so entertaining
Can you stop
@@Rizzy_K ?
This is actually really cool. Props to this guy.
The dude in the right spot on the sofa is blazed af lol
This guy is a god with speerunning Pokemon series.
No kidding. He's insanely good!
I haven't watched this video in years but it was this, especially the Yellow run at the end, which inspired me to both start running games and collect old video games, especially Pokemon
Came for the glitches, stayed for the Sanae plushie
dude... im crying right not... I MISS MY CHILDHOOD AND MY GOD DAMN POKEMON!!!!!!!
2:28:50 the awkward moment when you accidentally speedrun Yellow
This was an excellent run Werster, thank you for your continued speedrunning dedication
he also looks like a real pokemon trainer xD
59:34 is where the glitch attempts start. If anyone wants to skip past it, he's successful at 1:10:40.
When he finally beat Garyados, they all screamed and I was falling asleep. I almost got a heart attack.
the vibe that will never again be a vibe
run starts at 5:00
is that NES?
Love how they cheer the swearing rage!
"I'm going to donate 20 dollars for my swear jar, because FUCK THIS GAME!" lol this guy is amazing
"this isn't water, it's the town map!"
Genius.
I can't help but think of all the things I would've done with this knowledge as a kid. I had a single Mew that I was always triple-checking carts for before wiping a save. I guess I can finally do a gen1&2 100% run without worry now, aside from those sketchy old cart batteries.
Good thing the batteries can be replaced ;)
Saw this on my feed, so I immediately watched from start to finish. I loved this run so much! Even if you couldn't beat it on the big stage, you still did an amazing job going through all of this and making it very entertaining for us!

Remember kids! This is what happens when you get lazy with your pointers. ;~P
Can you do the yellow glitch on anything, like a GBA or SP? Or does it take an emulator or something?
For some reason, that line: "Yooo, I got a Potion," gets me every time.
The outburst at 2:09:35 makes this. I love it.
8:30 Of course his favorite type is grass lmao
Thanks for uploading these... I didnt know about AGDQ until like 3 days ago and i guess i missed this years :'-(
1:28:00 The Gamecube Emu cannot grasp the concept of "more than 20 Pokemon"
I love all the explanations for these glitches. 1 year working out the glitches for one game seems excessive but that's just me; I really enjoyed it.
when GDQs didn't suck ass
Why do you think they're so bad nowadays? While there were a lot of boring runs in this year's SGDQ, and a lot of boring runners that share none of their knowledge about the game, there were a bunch of good ones, esp. the first four or so and the SMM race.

Firelord Arvis Bonesaw also got banned from submitting games fot like the next 2 years :(
RedstonerProductions Whaaaaa
Was it for the Jak run? That was awesome, and everyone knows it.
Best part of the run is when Werster's naming the character "ysg", you can see Mike facepalming on the couch behind him.
I love what trihex is holding
That Lance fight near the end though xD
Run starts 5:00
So this is hard to word without spoilers, did werster finish that game save he started off screen at ~2:36:20, and what video of the stream did it happen during, if it did?
"I'm not black"- Werster 1:28
Probably my favorite run from werster. :)
And the yellow part was hilarious. Great job werster, if only i had money to donate to your awesomeness :C
a shark? VERY FITTING NAME.
the funny part is that totodile isnt even a shark
KidWitCurlyHair I know right! It's like an totodile, it's literal translation is "totally a crocodile!"
I remember being a little kid and playing my Pokemon Silver on my Gameboy.... I legit found a Lv. 1 sentret in the grass XD
remember when ash caught a pumbloom?
NO
I had to laugh out loud when this guy made a donation to swear jar :D
some of those guys look like the classic 80's basement nerds
Kjeld Schoonheim why you mad
I mad because I bought chocolate pudding but I mean't to get butterscotch pudding. FUCK ME DEAD!!!!!
Great commentary, I enjoyed it very much!
"im gonna donate $20 to my swear jar....FUCK this game"
haha, good stuff.
No True Scotsman
I can't believe how much bad luck Werster is getting at the start of this run... Makes it so much more exciting to watch.
it would be fun if they ran some pokemon game and got a shiny
+TheTiredSlakoth Link?
but is cartdrige din't save RIO
They do. However they cannot do runs due to the shiny having an extremely long battle cry which literally ends up costing 3 seconds a battle. anywhere from 5-15 minutes in total based on rng
rip then
In a marathon setting, they could easily catch it, catch a regular one and stash away the shiny. The odds of getting one are too small, especially in a marathon.
This may be the most entertaining speed run of all time
ysg = Yellow Shirt Guy
This was destiny.
So did Werster tryed the "Pokemon Gold Save Corruption Speedrun" again? And did he made it?
we can't stop here this is zubat country
THE death he who makes a beast out of himself....
Gets rid of the pain of being a man
I find glitches like this absolutely fascinating. Besides, it doesn't really ruin the game, as it's just as much fun to play normally. But as a speedrun, I expect it to be insane and game-breaking. Good run!
Would the game have crashed if he had tried to throw out something after Croconaw/Geodude/Whatever fainted towards the end there?
Hard to say, the game still isn't perfectly broken.
Yes. After a pokemon faints it brings you to the team screen to select the next one. Because he had more than 6 pokemon, going to this screen would crash the game (which is also why he couldnt heal)
Epic ending hahaha, fuk this fukin game!
Haha, I was one of the donation comments read out during the level up to 100... Had totally forgotten I'd donated during this game! It really took me by surprise just now!
I want that sanae plushie that guy is holding
and if you go there are the games for speed runs provided or you bring your own ?
lol, the genwunner's favorite type is steel? *facepalm
Why is this being played on the gb player instead of the super gameboy or with the staduim 2 transfer pak? I heard that the colors are different and better
I don't think the glitch works with the different versions not sure but how can you go wrong with original versions
The first screenshots that were shown of gold and silver used the colors from the super gameboy
1:57:41 , 2:00:00
*惜しい!!!ww*
*Nearing cause to Faint!!! But you LOST.....*
Soooooo much respect for all those guys sitting still for all that time!
Sorry for pointing that out, but this guys mimic makes him seem super arrogant.
lol the music for oak walking in loop just fits to well!
I'd like the Sanae Kochiya plush.
Very interesting run, I like it when they explain what they're doing.
dafuq is that kid on the couch holding, a doll?
What is the doll he's holding? Is it a pokemon or an anime character?
***** I believe it's Hatsune Miku
Holding a Meloetta doll. It's a Pokémon.
jenny patino it is most defiantly not. Take a screenshot and zoom in. It is most defiantly not a Pokemon. And probably hatsune miku.
It's hatsune miku, I think someone pointed it out in the video too
This, along with YSg laughing and Cosmo telling Mirrored, was the greatest AGDQ moment
YSG HYPE
Even though the end of the Gold run was totally distressing, this was one of the coolest things I've seen.

Lots of stuff I've never even heard of too, that map distortion glitch was way cool.
The RNG was a bit of a dick during Gold though, yeeeesh. Murphy's law came into a play a bunch.
What if he just used Hyper thang then after used roll out he would have easily beat lance!
well, as you saw it 80% the aerodactyl and the gyrados has slightly more hp than it so it wouldn't have OHKO it. Rollout was the only choice and then pray for rock throw/rollout to work a 6th time.
but the hyper thang killed the gyrado in 1 shot
TheDKblaze
hyper thong
TheDKblaze crits op bro. Crits op.
Riven, The Exile Rollout only hits up to 5 times.
Man that Lance battle absolutely hurts to watch
why can gdq donation readers never read properly??
Read donations faster, fit more donations in. Quantity over quality. Would you rather your donation be read slightly wrong, or not be read at all?
You looked like you were really tired when doing this run. How much sleep did you get beforehand?
Water types all the way. Since gen 1.
Except for Gen 6. Chespin and it's evos are best.
Prometheusmfd Opinion my friend as I find Greninja to be my favorite.
Blaziken is Ubers tier, it's by far the best. Greninja and both forms of Mega Charizard come pretty close. Mega Swampert and Mega Venusaur come after that.
@@acrid8952 🔥🔥🔥 fire is where it's at 😁
without doubt it was the most fun run IMO, me and some people actully got together just to watch this run specifically.
Why does he seem so butt mad all the time
I'd always be mad if one of my greatest hobbies was controlled by RNG over the span of years.
its soo entertaining :D watched through the whole vid ! gj dude keep up
this donation reader is terrible.
Zakuma101 so bad
This was as much entertaining as it was informative, loved it. Though my god you spent forever getting that Gold glitch.
I think the badge boost from Bugsy is part of what makes Fury Cutter stronger than 10
where did you get the awesome posters at 0:36???
Dr. Pepper: Check
Another Dr. Pepper: Check
Huge bag of Cheetos: Check
I'm ready!
