One of my favorite Bluey episodes is "Dance Mode." I love the way they convey how Bingo would say "yes" when she really meant "no," to certain things that people wanted her to do. Bluey is also totally different from the shows that I grew up watching, but it's so well done that it makes me nostalgic every time I see it.
I felt for Bingo in that episode, as someone who was nonverbal for awhile and conflict adverse due to my tricky homelife, I had difficulties setting up boundaries and saying "no" out of fear of getting repercussions.
In a later episode, we see that Coco has a BUNCH of older siblings. As the youngest in my own family (though a much smaller family than Coco's lol) I can easily believe that Coco has gotten used to rules changing so her siblings don't have to deal with her being upset or refusing to play anymore. One of our 'house rules' for hide and seek games was no one could be It for more than two rounds, because everyone ran faster than me and would get to base before I could tag them. I'd quit playing if I had to be It for too long. I do think house rules have their place, but everyone has to agree to them and the game still has to be fun for everyone.
Agreed. My family still has house rules for a bunch of our activities. For example, when we all go out to play disc golf we play in pairs or teams. Everyone throws and then you play from the best shot. This is both to make sure we move quickly through the course (we're a family of ten so we can hog a basket for ages) but also because I'm a terrible disc golf player and it means that I don't end up maxing out every single hole. I at least get a chance of having a throw to get my disc into the basket.
I love these Bluey videos. I think part of the reason Bluey is so effective at actually teaching lessons (for kids and adults alike) is because they are specifically *not* trying to impart a moral lesson and instead are just showing the characters successfully navigating different emotional and social challenges. It’s so much easier to relate to characters behaving like actual people and to want to emulate them in certain ways than it is to listen to a 10 minute sermon about why you should play games by the rules.
My favorite Bluey episodes are Baby Race and Grandad, I also really love Rain and Army. Camping is amazing. Duck Cake is amazing. Dance Mode is amazing. Man, there are so many great ones. The music is also just gorgeous always.
I don't know if this is my favorite bluey episode, but it sure made me cry a whole lot. At the end of 'Fairies' when Bandit is apologizing to Bingo, I lost it. Hearing "I'm sorry I hurt your feelings, it must feel really bad when your dad does that" made a lot of pent up emotions about my own father come out, since he always told me how much he regretted having me. I always thought that it must really suck that my dad is stuck in a situation he hates so much, and never really considered how much it hurt when he was cruel to me. I'll never get to hear an apology from my father, but it was nice to hear it that episode, and imagine what it would have been like.
That’s exactly how I feel about “Sleepytime” when Chilli says she’s always be there for Bingo. My mom never helped me to manage my own emotions. Instead, I had to repress them. It makes me tear up every time I watch that episode.
I would like to apologize on behalf of your father. No parent should tell their kid that they regret having them, regardless of circumstance. You didn't ask to be born. You didn't choose your circumstances. It wasn't your fault. I know the opinion of a stranger on the internet probably doesn't hold a candle to the countless years of emotional pain you endured, but I hope you find some peace. You didn't deserve that garbage.
My favorite episodes are: Yoga Ball - about consent and personal boundaries Seesaw- about incluiding people no matter the struggles they present (like Pompom being too small) Hotel Bluey - about how to let others make decisions instead of bossing them.
Yoga ball also shows how some kids react differently to play ( Some are senstivie , some not. ) , As Bluey doesn't complain about being played too rough, Bingo actually does, and is following Bluey anyway, because she thinks it's okay to feel that, where it's not.
My favorite episode is the baby race. Yep. Baby race. That's the one made me really hooked with this series. Also Bin Night. I could never imagine my child being the victim of the verbal bullying. But Bandit and Chilli really shows me some ways to talk to your child about it. And Bingo handle it well at the end.
I really loved the episodes where Bingo learns how to speak up for herself. Bingo's personality is a little quieter than Bluey's, and she's younger so she's still figuring out how to say what she wants and needs sometimes. 1) Yoga Ball where she practices using her "big girl bark" to ask Bandit to not play so rough. 2) Dance Mode where Bingo has a hard time saying "no" when her family asks her for things or favors. 3) Hairdressers where Bingo is struggling to say what's on her mind and Bluey learns to not talk over her.
one of my favorite episodes is the beach episode. i love how they explain why the mom likes to be by herself and why she isn’t at all distant from her kids or a bad parent; there are joys to being alone and exploring things by yourself. i also really like how bluey comes to understand this almost completely on her own. i’ve heard people say that the chilli isn’t as a good of a parent as bandit because she doesn’t spend as much time with bluey and bingo as bandit does, and i don’t think that’s true at all. i love the way the show responded to that. i really connected with that episode.
I love Bluey as an adult who has years of working with kids as a camp counselor, babysitter, and oldest sibling. They really get how kids learn and experience the world through play, and I’ve noticed how they give parents/adults “scripts” for how to approach difficult topics with kids like death, divorce/breakups, and personal boundaries. “Dance Mode” and “Yoga Ball” are two of my favorite episodes because they focus on Bingo’s shyness and how parents can recognize, apologize, and learn when they’ve crossed a boundary. Because parents aren’t perfect, and that’s okay! I was a really introverted kid growing up and I still have trouble enforcing my boundaries, so seeing this stuff being modeled really speaks to me.
Bluey is the best kids show on television. There are so many relatable lessons covered. One that comes up for us quite often is the Dunny episode. It’s such a good example for showing that just because we don’t do something in our house doesn’t mean it’s evil or wrong, just that different families have different rules. Please do the Yoga Ball episode at some point! The detail of how Bingo's mood changes as Bandit plays a little too rough for her but tries to push on (because she's both afraid to say something and also still wants to play with Bluey and her dad) is so genuine and the episode conveys a healthy conversation parents should have with their kids on setting boundaries and being verbal when something or someone is going too far
The Pool - it's so beautiful. As a mum that struggles with the bulk of the mental load and child rearing I just love the way this episode starts to open people's eyes to it all.
I just really love Bluey. People are in the middle of 'why are you watching it? its a kids show' but like- its really not. It gives me what i wish i had when i was younger. I see different traits in myself as different characters, or i just enjoy seeing the silly little dogs dancing around
My kids really need to watch this episode! But they are not allowed screen time right now, because they keep sneaking screens. I suppose it would not be a good idea to bend the rules for this episode.
My favorite lines from Bluey come from the Magic Claw and Ice Cream episodes. “I don’t want a valuable lime (mispronunciation of life) lesson. I just want an ice cream.”
As an artist who grew up style copying before learning the fundamentals this lesson definitely applies. Many young artist want to skip to just drawing stylized art and anything that looks “weird” is just the style. But you learn so much more by observing and learning from both other artists styles and from life. You learn structure, what you focus on in form, and that process and outcome can be far more rewarding. I was a stubborn lil thing and it took art school to kick my butt properly to teach me how to learn and grow so I can constantly adapt and grow as an artist. And the fundamentals were the first step. Something I appreciate about Bluey is that it rarely shows what they're imagining; it just shows the literal play. And don't get me wrong, I LOVE how animation can take us inside our imaginations, but I think it's nice to have a show that just shows it how it is. I think it can really help kids and parents that aren't visual thinkers to actually see how these games can look
Please do Bin Night. I think it's a great example of communication between parents and kids plus communication between parents (even if it isn't directly shown). ❤

One of my fave episodes of Bluey is "Bin Night"! It deals with bullying, conflict resolution, and supporting kids' dreams for the future, even some science and paying attention to things others might not (like phases of the moon and how societal norms - like putting out trash bins - can align with them) 'cause it can come in handy! :D I love it and think about it all the time!
I love how this episode also captured the joy of childhood play. Everything and anything can be a game. Even mundane things (shadows, the bus moving) are incorporated into their game play. The music is whimsical. Just reminds me of summer days, forts, exploration, "quests", etc.
My niece and nephews LOVE Bluey, and like to play some of the games in the show. It shows a lot of great imaginative play that kids can do in real life and it's actually helped my niece with learning to use her "big girl bark" like Bingo. Bluey shows healthy ways of navigating things at a child's level that hasn't been done much in shows, let alone kids' cartoons.
Yeah his mic is picking up the audio from the video he's watching and creating a short delay. It's one of the reasons reactors will wear headphones or pause the video before they speak.

I recommend Mini Bluey and Sleepytime. This show is great. My youngest could be considered “too old” for this show, but we still love to watch it together.
There are so many episodes of Bluey that I love. Some fave episodes are Camping and Duck Cake! Honestly, I'd be happy if you just did one of these Therapized videos for any and all episodes of Bluey. But if you are limited, I would most DEFINATELY NEED you to do one for Camping and Duck Cake!!
I think about this episode every time I see new D&D players talking about throwing away the rules in favor of "rule of cool" the moment something that sounds cool in the short term occurs to them.
There's an example of the rule of cool in this episode, it's when the cloud comes along out of nowhere to save the day. It works because it's a narrative driven convenience rather than completely ignoring established rules.

Can you do Baby Race? Maybe even have your wife with this one. Watching that while going through postpartum got me when Cocoa’s mom spoke to the camera. Also, having my friend’s kid born 3 weeks before mine and trying not to compare triumphs. But we also were each other’s support with concerns with either the kids or each other.
This was such a cute video! I love it! Adorable and sweet! Didn't realize that could be another angle for this episode's lesson, but it makes a lot of sense! Fairies! It is mine and my daughter's favorite episode. It also makes me wonder if there is literal magic in the Bluey universe and its not just the parents playing along lol
For a long time, I didn't trust my ability to problem solve or think critically. I was convinced that in the event of an apocalypse, my only way to survive would be by knowing someone who *was* useful. Something that I didn't realize at the time, is that due to my family environment, I had long since been heavily gaslit to the point of not trusting my 1st, 2nd, 27th instinct. I relied on my mother to think for me. When I left, times were insanely hard. I got out just as lockdown was hitting in March 2020.... And I found myself having this insanely adept ability to not only problem-solve, but think long-term strategically. Today, I have not a small amount of confidence, because my confidence was born of proving to myself what I'm worth. Ad now, I LOVE problem-solving, I seek out challenges (healthily), and I'm really happy with my life.
4:40 seeing them use their bodies to “create land” that way is a clever solution to help their friend get across! Maybe a puzzle game could be made like this?

"The Claw" (S1e19) is one of my favorite Bluey episodes, wherein Bandit tries to instill a work ethic, or at least respect for money with the girls. Second is "Duck Cake" (S2e44) where there is conflict in Dad trying to get Bluey to take responsibility for cleaning up after herself, and take responsibility for other things in the family, without being bribed to do so.
My parents unfortunately took the easy way out with me, and I’m sure I was stubborn back then which caused them to not want to push me but now I can’t even go to the grocery store without having loads of anxiety. I’m getting better but they shamed me for not being able to do it as an adult…but they never gave me that security.
I actually lost a friend when I was 5 because of stuff like this. We were playing, and it was a similar sort of game and we got trapped. I was thinking of heaps of creative solutions to get out, but my friend was chaning the rules (not to make it easier, but to make it impossible). Everything I said was shot down by a new madeup rule. Eventually I got frustrated and called her out on it... And she snapped at me, swore and called me the B-word. I was that kid that never swore, so I just walked away back to her house and tearfully asked her mum to call mine to come pick me up. And despite going to school together for another 13 years, we never mended that rift. So the fact this is in a show as a lesson is brilliant! I'm 30 and don't have kids yet, but your reviews are making me consider watching it anyway. I have a friend who watches it because she can, and I know you've said you found yourself just watching them for fun.
are you sure you were lazy as a kid? I thought I was lazy too but when I think about a lot of the physical stuff I did... I was largely discouraged from it. kids with with ADHD get treated like that a lot, we find something that lets us complete an easy or difficult task our way and someone (generally an authority figure) throws a fit and says we have to do it their way. when their way didn't work for us. they say we have to try harder, we start to think we're lazy and hopeless because their way doesn't work for us. when we were little we had the toothbrushes in the downstairs bathroom, it was a long counter and easy to work with our tiny frames... they changed their minds and made us use the upstairs one, a standing sink with no ledge and a medicine cabinet.... as an adult I had to move back in with mom with my family. the toothbrushes were down stairs and it was easier to brush and teach kiddo to brush. then mom started yelling that we had to take the toothbrushes up stairs. made it harder to brush I can't figure out why... then she made me keep my personal care items in my room. hygiene went down. it's the extra step that throws a monkey wrench in our beautifully constructed machine. I have my own home again and I am still trying to make things easier for me to do.

Sometimes you should play by the rules, but sometimes you should break them so as not to be living in a stranglehold of unnecessary obligation. Of course, it depends on the situation. I should know because I've played by the rules most of my life and missed out on lots of opportunities.
If you are looking for a good episode to therapist, Season 1 episode 40 Early Baby. It paints a great picture of how our experiences form our reactions and our “rules” and how empathy and communication can help us understand and support others.
I need to add 2 videos baby race and octopus both made me cry today. Baby race talks about the mommy club and how we endlessly compare ourselves. And octopus is about effective communication between kids and parents. Love them both

I love Sleepytime, but I am sure everyone loves that one. My other favorites are "Flatpack" and "Fairytale". I also like "Fruitbat" but its not as profound as the others.
I agree with kids needing to learn problem solving skills and how to find creative solutions. I tend to disagree with this examples. With a sport, it makes sense to stay within the rules, otherwise, you're not actually playing the game. With this example, it's play time. Playtime should be fun and it's not fun if playtime gets paused indefinitely until the univers falls in line in just the right way. It's also creative problem solving to come up with new storylines, plot twists, and elements in free play.
I totally get your point and kind of agree too, but they all agreed that they would play that game. They could decide to stop playing and just go have cup cakes instead of bending the rules just to be able to reach the cup cakes 🤷🏼♀️
I think I figured out why this story rubbed me the wrong way so much. My whole life, play like this had always been like group live action storytelling, get creative as you want, the sky is the limit! I would have felt so stifled and controlled, I would have stopped and played by myself if I were the other child. Not because I couldn't find a creative solution but because I would have felt I was being stopped from finding a creative solution and making an exciting story.
My favourite episode is Yoga Ball, it was the first episode to make me cry. I also really like Shadowlands because of how bratty Cocoa acts. She's not at all a spoilt brat, she just behaves in a very care free manner.

And don't get me wrong, I LOVE how animation can take us inside our imaginations, but I think it's nice to have a show that just shows it how it is. I think it can really help kids and parents that aren't visual thinkers to actually see how these games can look
Please do Bin Night. I think it's a great example of communication between parents and kids plus communication between parents (even if it isn't directly shown). ❤

One of my fave episodes of Bluey is "Bin Night"! It deals with bullying, conflict resolution, and supporting kids' dreams for the future, even some science and paying attention to things others might not (like phases of the moon and how societal norms - like putting out trash bins - can align with them) 'cause it can come in handy! :D I love it and think about it all the time!

It is amazing how a show about a blue dog makes rules fun.
I love how this episode also captured the joy of childhood play. Everything and anything can be a game. Even mundane things (shadows, the bus moving) are incorporated into their game play. The music is whimsical.
Just reminds me of summer days, forts, exploration, "quests", etc.

My favourite Bluey episodes are Granny Mobile, Sleepytime, Baby Race, Double Babysitter, Dance Mode, Camping, Library and Faceytime.
My niece and nephews LOVE Bluey, and like to play some of the games in the show. It shows a lot of great imaginative play that kids can do in real life and it's actually helped my niece with learning to use her "big girl bark" like Bingo. Bluey shows healthy ways of navigating things at a child's level that hasn't been done much in shows, let alone kids' cartoons.

Yeah his mic is picking up the audio from the video he's watching and creating a short delay. It's one of the reasons reactors will wear headphones or pause the video before they speak.

There are so many episodes of Bluey that I love. Some fave episodes are Camping and Duck Cake! Honestly, I'd be happy if you just did one of these Therapized videos for any and all episodes of Bluey. But if you are limited, I would most DEFINATELY NEED you to do one for Camping and Duck Cake!!

I think about this episode every time I see new D&D players talking about throwing away the rules in favor of "rule of cool" the moment something that sounds cool in the short term occurs to them.
"Rule of cool" is only okay if applied to a nat20.
There's an example of the rule of cool in this episode, it's when the cloud comes along out of nowhere to save the day. It works because it's a narrative driven convenience rather than completely ignoring established rules.

Watching that while going through postpartum got me when Cocoa’s mom spoke to the camera. Also, having my friend’s kid born 3 weeks before mine and trying not to compare triumphs. But we also were each other’s support with concerns with either the kids or each other.
This was such a cute video! I love it! Adorable and sweet! Didn't realize that could be another angle for this episode's lesson, but it makes a lot of sense! I've seen you over at Cinema Therapy but never realized that you had your own channel. Very glad to have found you here.
For a long time, I didn't trust my ability to problem solve or think critically. I was convinced that in the event of an apocalypse, my only way to survive would be by knowing someone who *was* useful. Something that I didn't realize at the time, is that due to my family environment, I had long since been heavily gaslit to the point of not trusting my 1st, 2nd, 27th instinct. I relied on my mother to think for me.
When I left, times were insanely hard. I got out just as lockdown was hitting in March 2020.... And I found myself having this insanely adept ability to not only problem-solve, but think long-term strategically. Today, I have not a small amount of confidence, because my confidence was born of proving to myself what I'm worth.
Ad now, I LOVE problem-solving, I seek out challenges (healthily), and I'm really happy with my life.
I think one of my favorite episodes is Copycat please do that one sometime? Its lovely in regards to grief and acceptance

"The Claw" (S1e19) is one of my favorite Bluey episodes, wherein Bandit tries to instill a work ethic, or at least respect for money with the girls. Second is "Duck Cake" (S2e44) where there is conflict in Dad trying to get Bluey to take responsibility for cleaning up after herself, and take responsibility for other things in the family, without being bribed to do so.
My parents unfortunately took the easy way out with me, and I’m sure I was stubborn back then which caused them to not want to push me but now I can’t even go to the grocery store without having loads of anxiety. I’m getting better but they shamed me for not being able to do it as an adult…but they never gave me that security.

I actually lost a friend when I was 5 because of stuff like this.
We were playing, and it was a similar sort of game and we got trapped. I was thinking of heaps of creative solutions to get out, but my friend was chaning the rules (not to make it easier, but to make it impossible). Everything I said was shot down by a new madeup rule. Eventually I got frustrated and called her out on it... And she snapped at me, swore and called me the B-word.
I was that kid that never swore, so I just walked away back to her house and tearfully asked her mum to call mine to come pick me up. And despite going to school together for another 13 years, we never mended that rift.
So the fact this is in a show as a lesson is brilliant! I'm 30 and don't have kids yet, but your reviews are making me consider watching it anyway. I have a friend who watches it because she can, and I know you've said you found yourself just watching them for fun.
are you sure you were lazy as a kid? I thought I was lazy too but when I think about a lot of the physical stuff I did... I was largely discouraged from it. kids with with ADHD get treated like that a lot, we find something that lets us complete an easy or difficult task our way and someone (generally an authority figure) throws a fit and says we have to do it their way. when their way didn't work for us. they say we have to try harder, we start to think we're lazy and hopeless because their way doesn't work for us.
when we were little we had the toothbrushes in the downstairs bathroom, it was a long counter and easy to work with our tiny frames... they changed their minds and made us use the upstairs one, a standing sink with no ledge and a medicine cabinet.... as an adult I had to move back in with mom with my family. the toothbrushes were down stairs and it was easier to brush and teach kiddo to brush. then mom started yelling that we had to take the toothbrushes up stairs. made it harder to brush I can't figure out why... then she made me keep my personal care items in my room. hygiene went down.
it's the extra step that throws a monkey wrench in our beautifully constructed machine. I have my own home again and I am still trying to make things easier for me to do.

Sometimes you should play by the rules, but sometimes you should break them so as not to be living in a stranglehold of unnecessary obligation. Of course, it depends on the situation. I should know because I've played by the rules most of my life and missed out on lots of opportunities.
Honestly I never understood why they didn’t just “pause” the game when they wanted the cupcakes. But you show an interesting angle to it.

I love Sleepytime, but I am sure everyone loves that one. My other favorites are "Flatpack" and "Fairytale". I also like "Fruitbat" but its not as profound as the others.
I agree with kids needing to learn problem solving skills and how to find creative solutions. I tend to disagree with this examples. With a sport, it makes sense to stay within the rules, otherwise, you're not actually playing the game. With this example, it's play time. Playtime should be fun and it's not fun if playtime gets paused indefinitely until the univers falls in line in just the right way. It's also creative problem solving to come up with new storylines, plot twists, and elements in free play.
I totally get your point and kind of agree too, but they all agreed that they would play that game. They could decide to stop playing and just go have cup cakes instead of bending the rules just to be able to reach the cup cakes 🤷🏼♀️
I think I figured out why this story rubbed me the wrong way so much. My whole life, play like this had always been like group live action storytelling, get creative as you want, the sky is the limit! I would have felt so stifled and controlled, I would have stopped and played by myself if I were the other child. Not because I couldn't find a creative solution but because I would have felt I was being stopped from finding a creative solution and making an exciting story.
Please talk about the episode Bike. It has a very similar theme to this episode, but definitely geared towards parenting
My favourite episode is Yoga Ball, it was the first episode to make me cry. I also really like Shadowlands because of how bratty Cocoa acts. She's not at all a spoilt brat, she just behaves in a very care free manner.
