You don’t have to use a leave in with uncle funky’s.. Your hair has to be soaked with water then I apply uncle funky’s and I create hold from innersense for more hold
Hey so this is a gel that I have researched like crazy before I purchased it. One of the biggest tips is to apply this gel in the shower on soaking wet hair and this is usually the rule of thumb with many botanical gels. Another thing was that if you feel that you need more gel you should add more water. At first I thought these tips was just what everyone was saying until I actually tried it on soaking wet hair in the shower. I've tried it for twist outs as well. One time I got great definition, another time my hair was so soft and another time I had zero definition lol. Its definitely a learning curve with this gel for sure. Still gotta play around more with it but I doubt I'd repurchase cause I don't like when I have to work hard to make a product work and I don't like varied results. Also I prefer twist and twist outs
Anika, hey girl! Thanks for watching. Next time I try, I will do the shower thing (this is usually my preferred method for wash n gos anyways, I just hate filming in my shower). However though, I think my definition was good. What I didn't like was the absence of hold. I need hold for my wash n gos. Would doing this process in the shower help with hold per your experience or just definition?
DON'T PAIR IT WITH NOTHIN'! Use it by itself. I heard of this gel years ago but never tried it until this year (2022) I was just never a gel person, I didn't use gels at all. I never did wash and go's because I always thought my hair would just end up super dried out. UFD is SO moisturizing I wasn't expecting that all. I swear by it I even use it as a refresher/detangler! I just add more water to use it that way. Speaking of water I suggest styling with it on DAMP HAIR not soaking wet hair. It's aloe vera based, which is pretty much water already. I see so many RUclipsrs use so much water while applying product it ends up just running down their fingers defeating the purpose of applying it in the first place. Good luck next time TFS ❤️
If you want more hold try it without the leave-in, the leave-in takes away from the holding properties. It’s what I use every wash day. And I also use a second gel on top to help with smoothing and longevity.
I used the leave in spray, their moisturizing creme and gel combo. Before adding any of the products, my hair was moisturized and detangled. After applying the leave in conditioning spray, it felt stiff and dry. I added one of the moisturizing cream followed by the gel. My hair became very tangled and hard to manage with no slip at all. I continued on with my rod set and I had ok results but I had to work very hard to make it look decent. I bought the little sample kit of products and I am skeptical to use any of the other products or mix and match them. My hair is predominantly 4B but 4a in the front. I noticed that the products work much better on the 4A sections. I’m glad that I bought the sample kit. This is not a product I would recommend 4B hair types.
Even though I don't have type 4 hair (duh, I know), this gel works well for so many people with all patterns, but I can't get it to work for me either 😒 I've tried dripping wet hair, regular wet, damp, you name it. I also got zero hold. Literally none. I have fine hair, and when I use this, my hair gets very wispy, and practically floats off my head lol. I tried layering it with other gels but either made no difference than just using the better gel, or sometimes it actually ruined the other gel and I would get the weird wispy hair again. I finally found a use for it though. It works great as a "dry" refresh for me! I don't like spraying any water on my to refresh, but i will take a small amount of product and mux one spray of water in my hand, emulsify it, and then just sorta twirl curls between my fingers. This works fantastic like this for me. Since that's all I use it for, I've been on the same bottle forever and still have like 85% of the bottle lol
Hey girl hey- I use UFD gel when I need my twist outs ( I’m the twist out queen) I don’t have a particular hair product that I use it with. Even though it didn’t stay the way you liked it, your hair looked beautiful. I think your right- mousse does look like it sits on hair then it absorbs in
Dareese, hey girl hey!!! I can’t say I miss doing twistouts. Lol. But I can certainly see a very soft and defined twistout with this gel for sure. My hair was indeed soft and I don’t think it looked horrible p, it just wasn’t what I was expecting. If I just wanted to shaped my fro, it would’ve been great, but since I always expect hold in my wash n gos, it disappointed me terribly.
What leave-in did you use? The leave-in could be what's interfering with the gel being able to stick and add hold and definition. I'd try the combo again with out the leave in and more water and see if you like the results more and get more hold and definition.
@@Leaveit2Nessa Yeah oily leave-ins will really affect the performance of the both stylers. And yeah I edited out that part in my comment because I heard you mentioned it. It makes a huge difference sitting under the drier. Thanks for sharing with us I love Fo Adunni learned a lot from her and also love her technique.

This is the only gel I use o my hair. There is def a learning curve. I have best results after a good shampoo. I also apply this in the shower after i've detangled with my deep conditioner. After I rinse my deep conditioner out I don't use the comb again. I only rake the product through with my fingers to help keep the curls clumped. I don't use too much, and add water if I need slip. If you add too much its very gummy and sticky. I also set it under a hooded hair drying, air drying is a no go if you are looking to avoid frizz and maintained definition. I have 4b/c hair, medium density, low porosity.
I have 4c hair and for some reason it was not working for me. It flaked in my hair and I didn't have time to wash out before going out so I'm wearing my hair in a ponytail. Glad I only paid $4 for it

I have type 4a hair, but its high porosity. My hair has loved this gel for the last 9 yrs now, i've been natural for 13 yrs. i have about 20 containers of it because i WnG 2-3 times a week. Have you tried it with one of its own leave-ins? For my hair, i have yet to find a gel to top it. I was hoping you had a better experience with it this go around, but that goes to show how different everyones hair needs are. Still a great review🇭🇹
Also, for me, i find it works better on wet to damp, not soaking wet hair, but i can tell you are low porosity by how your products applied, so may not be helpful info.

You ladies keep throwing brands at me, I don't even know of. I will look up this brand and see what they're about. When my hair is longer, I have similar issue with the back being longer unless I intentionally cut it to match the rest of my hair. That's because the back of my hair is looser than everywhere else though, not sure if it's the same for you.
I really like it, because it has a nice slip, but my hair has been wet for almost an entire day. But I haven’t used hair gel in years, so I may just be out of the game.
I tried this gel when I was still transitioning and it was ok but I need to try it again. I think it would have done better for you if you applied it in the shower on soaking wet hair. Also maybe try it alone, without the mousse. Maybe the mousse altered the end result? I loved the way your hair turned out, I know it's not the type of results you like but it did look really good ☺

I don’t disagree, but I actually did try it alone last week and hated it. The results were worse. I’m going to try another combo or two until I’m done with the container and maybe I’ll do a compilation video about the different ways I tried it.
