Today I went to get a hair shaping cut and the stylist used this gel. This was my first experience with it and I'm in love. The key is to apply it on soaking wet hair without a leave in conditioner underneath. And instead of air drying my hair, she had me sit under a hair dryer for 30 minutes to help set my curls. I pray I get the same results when I do my hair myself.

Hi Dominique. I really liked your comment and hope you got the same results as the salon. 😄 I just wanted to ask you when you went under the dryer what setting was used please, cool or warm? I keep hearing conflicting things, namely you need cool air to seal the cuticle, or warm/hot to set the curl, but in my opinion that would open the cuticle and let out all the moisture you’ve worked so hard to put in. I’m intrigued to read your response, as your stylist obviously knew what they were doing if you got great results. Thank you.

I like when you show how it looks later on in that week, most products look good the first day the truth is in the days after, to see if they flake or not, if it if felt dry or not, etc.

I love Uncle Funkys Daughter Curly Magic. I tried it first and I’ve just tried the Camille Rose Curl Maker l. I use UFD alone, no leave in and no added oils.

I just bought this and glad I found your video. My hair isn’t as curly as yours (wish it was), but I have same issues with back section being thickest and frizzy ,so I can’t wait to see how it comes out.

Got the travel kit (less expensive) to try. I LOVE the Curly Magic way better than CRN's Curl Maker. No contest. And the Supercurl is awesome. I too have a back section that more tiny ringlets, very thick (don't know how or why, this section has always been different).

Love the curl magic better than Camille rose curl maker...my hair is more kinky curly and the curl maker makers my hair a bit undefined..but are two great gels
Lisa Essien I’ve tried Camille Rose, it defines my hair but it was different. More fluffy and curl pattern seemed smaller. It worked, but was different. Not my go to.
The smell is so strong with curl maker. I can't.

I'm also a ❤️❤️of the Camille Rose curl maker ... but I use uncle funky daughter gel when I can't find the Camille rose. My hair likes both gels and I can normally get a good 5 day wash and go from them. I'm a ride or die for the OGX orchid spray ... have bottles on stand by.... and even one at work.

UFD Curly Magic is a keeper!
How did it last? I haven’t tried this one, yet a stylist put it in my hair but mixed it with I want to say a Carol’s daughter product and it left a white residue so I never wanted to try. Maybe I’ll get it and follow the instructions.

Girl I wasn't surprised that you thought it was bomb. When I first tried it that was my exact impression as well. Mind you I had been using CRN Curl Maker for years. Only thing I can't use UFD CS or CRN CM during the summer when the humidity is high, too much moisture for VA. But I'm loving both this winter. I'm glad you loved it!!!😉😚

Lydia Tefera been using it this summer with a little curl bounce hair spray( per your recommendation) and it's performing quite well but granted it's not that humid this summer.

Didn't you feel the product on ur hands? I used it for the first time, I have a different type of hair nothing curls the top section. But I used it and even it drys I still get that jell in my hands. Is it just me?

I tried Uncle Funky’s Curly Magic three days ago, and it was okay. I have 3b curls, and I started with some frizz the following morning. Whenever I use the Camille Rose 🌹 Almond Jai Twisting Butter, along with her Curl Maker gel, my curls come out on point. I get a good 4 days out of it WITHOUT refreshing my curls. Not bad, right?
Yeah my Curl Maker also lasts a day or two longer than the Uncle Funkys Curl magic but it still does a great job at defining my curls!

Why not just let the product dry on its own instead of adding the oils? How can you tell if the product is really working if you add to it?

How long does it actually take you to do your hair
About 25-30 min! And then I have to wait for it to air dry
It works great for my 4b hair also. I tend to mess it up because it takes my hair so long to dry... like now when um ready to go to sleep and my roots are damp but I'm probably going to lay down lol. My fault not curly magics fault

I'm in my 50's and have yet to figure out my hair :( It's exhausting. How do you make it last? I have to wet my hair every morning because it's so tangled so I use a lot of this product everyday day by redoing. It's not financially efficient.
Do you work in small sections at a time, I know that helps me!
We curly haired women definitely have to work in sections and put your hair up or wrap it at night. If it's long enough, most curls can just be put in a super high pony tail...but if you really want to secure your wash and go I would get a silk bonnet. You may have to spritz it in the morning (I recommend one of those misting bottles on Amazon). It's also important to remember curls are like snow flakes. Everyone's curls are a different experience. We have to go through a lot of trial and error to find a fit. One woman's wash and go might last a week where someone else might only be good for a day. Best of luck on your curl journey!!
Marshmallow root in it makes my hair sticky. Does anyone else have that problem?
Yeah it can make it feel a little sticky if you go in with too much or if your hair isn’t soaking wet when applying it to your hair
It tangles my hair😂 I avoid that ingredient and green tea extract like the plague. My hair does not like those 🙅🏾

I used to use this all the time and can't find it anymore, sigh. It works almost as well as flax seed grapes (haha) for me.
I'm wondering if I should try the Camille Rose since it's easier to find.
Camille Rose is a little pricey but I LOVE ITTTTT
When I stared looking for gels, I saw Uncle Funky, Mielle, and Camille Rose had similar ingredients, so I randomly bought the first two. Mielle has the *strongest smell of any gel I have ever used in my entire life* and literally caused me to have headaches(!!!) So I stuck with Uncle Funky. But I bet CR doesn't have that problem and I should just grab it at least to try.
I'll do it this weekend, if I see it when I go grocery shopping!

My hair isn't dry yet (I did it at like noon yesterday, so I think it'll be dry in a few more hours,) but I tried not leaving in conditioner for the first time, and I used the Camille Rose gel.
Girl this is the second best my wash and go has ever looked. I'm pretty sure I can make it look like the best when it dries and I can stretch it, too.
I'm kind of amazed. I never thought that my hair could be soft if there wasn't conditioner left it it. I never thought it could be this defined without conditioner either.
If I don't end up with white flakes all over my body, I'm never going back. Heck, even if I do, this is still amazing. I'm going to save so much conditioner. Thank you.
What did you cleanse and deep condition with?
I cleansed with the Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Shampoo and then I deep conditioned with my a TGIN Honey Miracle Hair Mask 😊
