Many thanks, I've been looking for "what is the best knee brace for arthritis?" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you heard people talk about - Paneyton Dumbfounded Preponderance - (just google it )? It is a good one of a kind guide for getting rid of your annoying chronic knee pain without the headache. I've heard some decent things about it and my cousin after a lifetime of fighting got great results with it.

What does "give yourself some time to repair" mean. A few months....a year? Has any doctor giving out this recommendation, ever torn his meniscus and continued to stand, sit, walk, twist his body, climb stairs, operate, golf, etc and just live with the intense pain? Or have they opted to have the torn meniscus cut out or sewn so they could continue to do what they needed to do? I tore my meniscus twenty-two years ago; my doctor had an appointment within a few minutes of my visit and within three weeks to cut out the torn section. Yes, I developed arthritis in that knee but except for the small amount of discomfort over the years, I would rather have arthritis than a torn meniscus.
Two months ago, I tore the meniscus in the same knee...again ! But this time, I am being advised to just try to wait it out, do physical therapy to strengthen the knee and take pain pills or Tylenol to ease the pain. This is bologney. I see my doctor again this month; if he does not agree that arthroscopy is the way to go, I am going.....to find my old orthopedic surgeon and have cut out again. I am 75 and I still have lots of things I need to do in this life and sitting in a rocking chair is not my idea of waiting it out to repair.

God bless you Dr. Luks. You saved me from torn miniscus knee surgery, and even my family thought I was crazy for running out of the surgeons office when he said I MUST have surgery, and my knee has been fine ever since. Want to know how long ago that was? It was 7 years ago. I just turned 79.

Hello sir. Would like to ask you, how long did it take for your meniscus tear to heal? I am 20 and I probably have a tear(I think it's a small one since the symptoms are very mild, small pain, little catching and that's it, swelling is gone). It's been like 8 weeks so far and I am really impatient because I want to get back to my sport. Thanks a lot for your answer if you ever see this.

I learned so much, I have a torn Meniscus since March 16, 2019. I recently found out I have mod/severe Osteoarthritis with no cartilage on certain parts of the bone in my inner left knee. I also have a leaking baker's cyst. I would guess mine is Irreparable perhaps. This is my second meniscus tear since Aug. 2004. 💕

I'm a little confused here, at 1:15 you say the meniscus has no healing or regenerative capabilities then at the end bullets you say to give it time to heal...

I injured my meniscus by getting out of the car wrong. When you plant your foot on the ground, you will injure your meniscus by twisting your body and therefore rotating your knee without rotating your foot. Being conscious that I was doing this I am now careful to NOT do this, and the pain has gone away.

I have arthritis already in my left knee. I'm 45. I was told I had arthritis 4-5 years ago
I.think I tore something June 5th. My GP refused to order an mri.
I was in PT from march to may 2020 for knee pain. June 5th...something happened during Zumba. And in was told to redo 12.weeks of PT
Okay! But aug 21 I fall down on my left knee. I report it to workmans comp / DOL. I continued to walk on the darn thing until sep 4th (no one from workmans comp got back to me until sep 4th). Sep 4th...I could NOT walk! My knee hurt.
I have not been able to walk in it since Sep 4
    I live alone
    No family anywhere
    I'm fearing I'll be put in a rehab! I'm only 45. I can't have surgery
Oh o found out Sep 4th I have bone spurs on my knee cap
It hurts to bare weight on my knee

I had a meniscectomy when I was 19 yrs old. The results were abysmal. In the video you went througth the decision processes as to wheter to have a meniscectomy or not. Its a pity for me that the surgeon who operated on me did not have your intellect as I would not have had the surgery. My surgeon was a dummy. One thing (or maybe two) from your decsion process which I would add are physio and knee position. If you are having knee pain make sure your knee, hip and muscles of the leg are all working ok and that your knee is not twisted in or out.

Hello Doc Luks, thanks so much for your informative videos and website!
I am typical patient as you described. I have been having a knee pain for 3 months, but recently on 1/12/16 after playing tennis for a few hours, got sharp inside knee pain. I could not walk for 1 week, so, after pain subsided a little I went to see Orthopedic doctor. Doctor ordered XRay and MRI. MRI revealed a Tear of the posterior horn of the medial meniscus. Since, I am leading physically active lifestyle (running, playing tennis, hiking) doctor strongly suggested a partial medial menisctomy Looks like to go back to do activities I love (e.g. tennis) I need this surgery, but my knee pain is slowly subsiding. I am 53 years young women. Would you recommend to wait with the knee arthoroscopy or do it asap?

  • @shananarocks
    @shananarocks 2 года назад

Well the specialist doctor at my public hospital refuse to even give me an X-ray or MRI even when he knew I had a previous meniscus repair on my left knee in 2008. I do not think a private hospital would be too proud when dealing with a patient under subsidized care. He said so what if I find broken pieces of cartilages and merely attribute to old age (57 yrs) and onset of arthritis. Well are least he can confirm with an MRI and clear those broken pieces to prevent my knee from locking or do some trimmings if possible. But I think the issue is because I am a subsidized patient and he probably have other agenda too. Sometimes I do hope senior doctor can even remember the Hippocrates oath to serve patients and not for their personal gains. Sigh.

Great, informative video. Thank you! Currently trying to decide whether or not to have surgery. The tear happened while training for a marathon. How long does one typically have to wait for the pain from a tear to settle down? Dull pain in my knee every day that is definitely annoying and painful especially after sitting or driving for 30 min or more. It's been a month since re-injuring it. Initial injury 4 months ago. Thanks again!
