The time of flight of the 76mm Vulcano is 120 seconds to 40km. Let's say the guys on the ground got the BMP's exact coordinates to the ship in 30 seconds flat (very optimistic) and the ship took 30 seconds to respond (also highly unrealistic given mensuration and deconfliction considerations). That's two minutes for rounds from a ship 20km away to arrive. In two minutes two BMP-1s could put down no less than 40 rounds of 73mm. They would also be able to relocate, or, at considerable penalty to accuracy, fire on the move. This really wasn't a very realistic depiction of a scenario, but you can't blame Oto Melera - most weapon manufacturers are equally optimistic about their kit's performance.
there you are assuming that the bmp knows its being engaged by naval gunfire!. it looked the surviving unit was hull-down as well...his consideration may be more for staying concealed from direct fire infantry anti-armour than scooting out from underneath rounds already falling. I'd grant you that a fixed mortar or rocket artillery site as a second target may have been more realistic though.
+Chris Werb Yes true..but is better of a Closa Air Support..Usually, we wait 30-45 min (optimitic) to have aircraft in our area..Arty fire base is the best solution to contrast ambush. 3-5 min in good..
+Chris Werb The BMP 73 mm doesn't have that kind of range. Besides its going to take a lot of 73 mm amo to disable a warship and in the meantime the vehicle is out in the open with thin armor exposed to copper/alloy rounds.
The 76mm, 4.5 and 5inch guns [and now also the 57mm Bofors I believe-on the LCS and Corvettes] can also fire guided rounds, which only needs a soldier on the ground to provide mid-course corrections...so....
Unfortunately, US DoD wastes a lot of money on things that could cost 10 times less to develope... But every country have this kind of problem, trust me... In Italy we have lots of corruption too, the only difference is that US defense budget uses Billions instead of Millions eheheh
Perhaps you are right about pervasive corruption. But it seems like the US loves to lavish huge sums on gold-plated turds like the V-22, the F-22 and the F-35 while ignoring things that could save the lives of combat troops and which cost a tiny fraction of the big projects. I like to follow the development of artillery and when I see weapons like the 76mm that could be really useful to us, I figure, why not just buy a bunch of them from the Italians? But that would be too simple. No chance for the politicians to skim something in the process. Sigh.
Damezumari1 I can't agree more... some expenses can't be sustained, not even by the largest power of the world... There could be many other ways to spend those insane costs, such as providing some healthcare assistance to citizens, and other useful things
Damezumari1 Actually, US Navy bough MANY of theese 76mm in the past, they were a previous version of the new 76mm Super Rapido, with a slightly lower rate of fire, but still an awesome piece of artillery, then they decided to go for the 57mm Bofors, wich isn't that bad... but still i would chose 76mm Super Rapido anytime, especially with this kind of ammo being developed
You are right, and though the 57mm bofors is a good weapon, it only has a range of about 9 miles. These days "stand off" range is everything(except for precision), and Oto Melara has been doing tremendous research in all aspects of artillery. I heard a podcast by an Italian general about the advantages of artillery vs. missiles, and he really knew his stuff. The Americans are at least doing something right here. Have you checked out the work on the electromagnetic railgun?
Nah, the 127mm version has even longer range over 70km Essentially it's a sabot projectile with guidance and sensor... Getting shells to fire that far, was not difficult especially with modern tech, the difficulty is typically in actually hitting with them that far since the small projectile (after discarding the sabot) won't do much damage if it doesn't come close enough to the target. So the obvious solution is to guide the shell as close to the target as possible.
Making the guidance system survive the firing; was the hardest part, what took so many years. Also, don't say "nah"; it makes the person saying it look supercilious [it means coldly dismissive], careless, thoughtless and a bit dumb. Every time I see someone go "nah" it rubs me the wrong way, I'm instantly polarized against them and their opinion [even if I'd otherwise agree with it] and I can't help but judge the person at least a little bit, as it's annoying as hell. Just don't do it. If it rubs me the wrong way, I can guarantee it rubs a LOT of people the wrong way.

Very "realistic" 1)2 BMP's with HE ammunition would OBLITERATE such a squishy convoy.... 2) Free falling exploding shrapnel rounds can destroy BMPs, really? well, this is a cartoony commercial after all. :/
European Command and Control at its worst. Ground Unit must call back to National HQ to get fire support. Theater Commanders should have that authority.
I proiettili della famiglia vulcano sono ad oggi il top a livello mondiale

Sparkknocker 62 I think he was saying that the BMP-1s would have practically decimated the soldiers in the time needed for the shell to arrive.

Nice Wargame: European Escalation/ Air Land Battle music
I think there is also the radio chatter from the game when it calls in for the support
Yeah very distinctive
Lmao
That animation reminds me of CnC General, ah good ol' days
I was hoping for actual footage of a testfiring or use or something ...
Made Italy 💪🇮🇹
They got the models of the humvees from Crysis.
100 % italian technology, italian new frigates are armed with Vulcano 76 mm
@我が田中 don't cry comunist
I love the missions they always go on in these commercials... It's always to help and assist... These are 76 mm grenades, they don't help or assist..
They help you at killing your enemies and assist you so that they can't shot you, never again
I miss tom clancy.. you can find all technicalities of such weapons in all his writtings...really miss you man...
Very, Very impressive. A 76mm with a range like a 155. And accuracy like an Excalibur. Why don't we Americans have this?
Unfortunately, US DoD wastes a lot of money on things that could cost 10 times less to develope... But every country have this kind of problem, trust me...

Is that how oto melara works? Wow it's so impressive💖
I like how they left one alive to tell the tale

I thought it was a cinematic movie made by some one but is a simulation of how it works, that caught me to think this how it actually works

it's not just regular shrapnel
it's designed to pierce armor

Cool!
nice gun..i hope my country's navy ships will be armed with that guns.
Remaining still in the killzone of an ambush. Does this make sense?
Typical Wargame Red Dragon ambush
Yo xD
Nice reference :D
God stands on the side of artillery:
Napoleon Bonaparte
Napoleone
you see, if this was a 16 inch gun, they wouldn't have needed the second Salvo, it would've been over with the first
no military convoy would go in potential ambush area with that close distance to each other , 😐
If they had made this on Garry's Mod it would've been even more entertaining. :-)
I would like to see one of these commercials named "Surprise attack on peaceful neighboring country" Lol
Hubiese deseado algo mas fiable que una animación por ordenador.
Unos ensayos reales contra maniquíes y vehículos de cartón.
Hubiese sido perfecto.
Wow
Well, I want 50 of that
too late you already lost the damn war now go back to heaven bcz you killed hitler
What are your plans when all that technology fails
It doesn't. Oto melara knows how to make its weapons
now imagine a 5inch, 155mm or 8inch version xD
The 5inch is in development
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
what if the ambush in too far of war ship ???
40km is more than enough
The Heroes of Benghazi couldn't even get a 76mm fire mission out of Obama and Hillary.
Why are they stopping!?! First rule in an abush, Get out of the kill zone!
Why is there NEVER air support?🤔😝
Because a plane takes too long to take off and arrive to give support
Also the Air Support is more Expensive.
If you are going to brag about your ammo! I would suggest an actual live fire demonstration as opposed to crappy CGI.
うっへ〜〜びっくり!
MAKE IT RAIN HELL!!
threat "newtraleezed"
oh god i remember that, it was from the strales commercial
why all drawn !? in the cartoon can not fantasize ... Video is real application no !? or is it fantasy ?? it's computer game!?

well, this is a cartoony commercial after all. :/
Tumoxa89 This "free falling shrapnel" is actually designed to kill MBTs from the roof and is used in multiple types of rounds, even on missiles.
Que lixo cara...!!! Pior que filme brasileiro...!!!
