  • One of my all time favorite movies, the elegance and modesty and the pure dedication is amazing. So, I made a tribute for the movie, I know its a bit long but there is so much important footage it was hard to narrow it down. Hope I did it justice :) Let me know what you think! Dont forget to like and subscribe for more fandom tribute videos to come.

Despite any controversies surrounding the book and the film, I still really enjoy both of them. I have read the book and seen the film, I think they are both well made and enjoyable. The performance of each actor/actress in the film was very good, and the story made this film a good mixture of drama, romance, history.

I'm in love with this movie although there are some scenes I dislike enormously. The violence (wrestling with Sayuri and setting okiya on fire) by Hatsumomo wasn't in the book - that is definitely an addition by the American screenwriter and wasn't needed to get the point across that there is animosity and jealousy amongst Geisha. Sayuri was annoyingly obsessed with The Chairman in the book while the movie got it across without being a Sada Abe about it. There are so many beautiful scenes but my two favourite are when Hatsumomo (Gong Li) is caught by mother and she is left standing in the rain. Her eyes and facial expression is so captivating. Of course the last scene with The Chairman (Ken Watanabe) & Sayuri when he gets tears in his eyes of learning her love and sacrifice for him. Man he did that exceptionally! The emotions of these actors along with Izsak Pearlman's violin...I die every time...

Really? I couldn't really feel her love for the chairman in the book. I did it more in the movie. But that set the okiya on fire was really dumb..

its symbolicall, to hatsumomo fire and chiyo water.
its probably one of the author's draft. since he has several drafts before the original book. and they want to have a climax sometimes it doesn't translate well into movies

china hasn't been like this since 1000 years ago when they fell to the mongols and so did korea.
so the last true ancient east asian culture only live in Japan. most historian can find many things still practice and alive in japan, while its only a record or history in china and korea

I like brokeback mountain but it couldn't compare to memoirs of a geisha music or cinematography.
Which memoirs of geisha win Oscars for cinematography but lost music to brokeback mountain
U should try "call me by your name", i think its better than brokeback mountain

      the irony 🤦🏻‍♂️ tbh.
this movie is pure art just like geisha, geisha are judged by society just like this movie, the irony. people who judged this movie "not documentary" are what geisha hate about their society
      oh the irony.
just enjoy this MOVIE who wanna tell an accurate story and emotion. accurate visual go look at bunch of documentary for more.
more irony. a real retired old geisha (not the self centered mineko) actually gifted zhang ziyi a kimono for her perfomance in this movie. in the note it says they really appreciate zhang bringing the role to life, they even shed tears.
also on that note mineko is like (mariah carey, not every singer didn't struggle like mariah carey, some goes through all kind of sh"t before they were successful, not mariah though she is rich from the beginning)
