In addition to what others have said about her charming voice, I have to point out that Michelle Yeoh's accent is fantastic. I know personally several educated Japanese women with strong British influences (mostly English) and she sounds just like them. And they're sweet and elegant ladies too, just like Mameha. Mameha's such a fair-minded character 🥰 She deserves to be loved tenderly :(
This film is full of great performances, tbh. Hatsumomo, Sayuri, Chiyo, Okasa and even Pumpkin - all leave a striking impression!
This movie is pure perfection - the story, the costumes, the actors... Everything is incredible. I will never get sick of this movie

Michelle forever will always be one of my favorite actresses.
First time I saw Michelle in a movie. I've loved her since. She has the good taste of setting a bar for holding oneself straight, speaking quietly and being steadfast.
Michelle was so magnificent in this movie, as she was in "Crouching Tiger, hidden dragon". And Zhang Ziyi did so well in these movies too!
I love how even from the beginning, Mameha is using these examples for teaching
I, so many have back problems and I actually used Mameha's lesson on rising to actually get up when I can't lean on something and putting pressure on my knee hurts.
Imagine how bizzare this would be to a Japanese person watching this in a theater. You need Japanese subtitles to understand two chinese women speaking english while acting Japanese.
😂 most important is that the actresses were beautiful no one could match the beauty and popularity of Michelle ziyi and gong li they are natural beauties no plastic surgery and all Asia admired them at that time .

What is the way to reconcile our peace and relationship with God?

Jesus = God who lived up in Heaven, but he came down on earth and became a man like us, he lived for 33.5 years without committing any sin. Then there were certain people who were jealous and therefore framed him on phony charges, and crucified him. Then he was buried and resurrected on the third day; Now he lives in HEAVEN.
Q4. Do you know why Jesus went through all this bloody mess for us?
A4. As mentioned, our sin is the reason why we can’t go to heaven, and the only thing that can wash away our sin is the Blood of Jesus.
(4) Romans 5:9 KJV [9] Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
According to the bible, the only way for us to reconcile with God is through Christ Jesus’s blood, and not through any works that we do or merits we accumulate, such as water baptism, attending church, or any good thing that we do. The following verses clearly support this.
(5) Ephesians 2:8-9 KJV [8] For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: [9] Not of works, lest any man should boast.
(6) 2 Corinthians 7:10 KJV [10] For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.
In order to get saved, repentance of one’s sin is needed to get saved, we need to be sorry, and repent, with conviction, that we are a wretched sinner.
(7) Romans 10:9 KJV [9] That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
If you truly do believe in everything you have heard in the gospel, ,I strongly suggest you to make a proclamation to GOD! You can say it to God in less than 15 seconds !Repeat after this simple prayer, to make sure you truly get saved. Remember repeating this prayer doesn't save you, it's you telling God you BELIEVE THE GOSPEL. Ok, here is the prayer :
‘Dear GOD,
I know I am a sinner, as I repent, I put my faith, that Jesus is GOD, and that he died, buried and resurrected, so that his blood, can wash away my Sins. I put my faith in that alone to save me, not my good works. In Jesus’s holy name, I pray. Amen!

Download /Buy a KJV bible (I highly suggest getting a hard copy bible , as one day, it will be illegal to buy, own or even have an online version of the bible) and search for youtube channels like Truthunedited, REAL Bible Believers , The Bible Project, AoC Network, Robert Clancy, Spencer Smith to help you grow , study dispensationalism to understand the bible ( How do we reconcile the verses in the New Testament that tell us that we need works to show our faith, and another that tells us that nothing that can take our salvation away? That's why we need to study biblical dispensationalism to rightly divide the word of God.( study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth, 2 Timithy 2:15) (I recommend the dispensationalism video from Genesis to Revelations by Dr. Gene Kim, ruclips.net/video/GI4CteEFxOk/видео.html) , join a bible believing church. for those complaining about the hairstyles being unauthentic, there is truth to it. There is a BTS short about it. The makeup/hair department mostly stuck to the Maiko/Geisha traditional hairstyles. But also took liberties with it, like Sayuri having a very soft, well maintained hairstyle. Mameha having a mature maintained one, and allowing her hair to be down and styled in public. And Hatsummo being more brazen. Her geisha hairstyle has a lot of loose tendrils in it, which was done on purpose to reflect the way she bucks the traditions. Also, her coming out into the streets with long wet hair having just washed it, completely not real because it was unallowable, and geisha kept that very close. But, like the hair stylist on the set said : "Hatsummo, being Hatsummo, she does what she wants." Also she said "We're not here to make a documentary." Which is true.
Ugh the Baron was so disgusting
Sayuri was 9 and the Chairman was 45 when they met. The Baron is hardly the only gross person.

This will forever be my favorite movie.
I've always been disappointed in the fact that actual Japanese women weren't cast in the primary roles, but that said, Michelle Yeoh is the one I could never object to. She's just a stunning beauty and actress.
There are Japanese actresses who could have done it just as well. Maya Miki played a similarly stern but elegant teacher in Attention Please at around the same time this movie came out.
From what I read, they tried to have a casting call for Japanese actresses, but none showed up.

It's unfortunate that this movie was based on a book written by a non-Japanese which explains the confusion of Geisha with Oiran.
He should have just written about one of the colleagues of the geisha he interviewed. She came from even worse hardship than Chiyo’s. She died young, though. :(

I still think that someone was behind Mameha, instigating Chiyos elevation to Geisha. Not her Baron but the man Chico was in love with.
You didn’t read the book. Because if you did, you’d know better.
The Chairman paid for Mameha to find her and train her. He was worried about her that day, after he found her crying and he bought her the shaved ice.
Yes, Mameha was using Siyuri, but her goal was not entirely selfish. Yes, she was trying to strike down Hatsumomo but not out of vindictiveness. She was trying to prevent the rise of a tyrant who would make life miserable for everyone. To prevent that from happening another had to be chosen in her place. Pumpkin couldn't do it; Hatsumomo would rule through her. Mameha couldn't do it herself, she wasn't part of that house. Siyuri was the only reasonable choice among limited choices. The story points this out, though, this small world of women that turned on each other. In the end Siyuri recognizes that she could have turned out like Hatsumomo, who must have been an innocent girl once and may only have turned mean as a product of the environment that raised her.

This movie is excruciating to watch! Why oh why hasn't anybody done an authentic Japanese version of it, with actors that actually can convincingly portray Japanese people, let alone geikos...! In Japanese, not fucking broken English.

Because when the movie was cast, the producers waited in vain for Japanese actors to audition for the main characters & no one did. When this movie originally came out, Time magazine did a big write up on it & I remember that was 1 thing that was discussed. They wanted Japanese actors. Of course they did. According to the article, no one showed up and they went with the Chinese actors.

Maybe because the book was written by a white American for a western audience. As was the film.
