Hey, I'm the main background and enemy artist of Sonic Boll.
Gonna be honest, the name "boll" doesn't actually mean anything, it's a butchered spelling of "ball" that was only supposed to serve as a project title, but the game became too big to change it so we wound up stuck with it.
So the games name is literally just "Sonic Boll" because the devs didn't feel like changing it.
That's brilliant.
Boll actually means ball in Swedish so you are technically right with the name

Hey, I'm the guy making Sonic Advance Revamped; thank you so much for playing my game and for talking about it here!!!! I really, really appreciate it and I'm honored that you enjoyed it :') The video is wonderful and so kind even down to the more oddball titles shown off, and you introduced me to some fangames I didn't even know about that I definitely want to check out now! The history touched upon was also really cool to see, too (Ultimate Flash Sonic was actually one of the main inspirations for my game!)
My game has been on both hiatus and very slow progress moving to a better engine on a better software, but things like this drive me to keep working on it, and to set aside more time dedicated to working directly on the game again. Thank you so much, again!!!
In the meantime, I absolutely 100% recommend checking out Sonic VS Darkness. Incredible, fun, and influential game made by a real good friend!!

Many Fan Games just get abandoned...or just stay on a long time on slow or paused development without a word from the devs. I wish you a lot of luck and that you can make your game the way you want no matter what obstacles appear! The Sonic fans are some of the most dedicated fans there are. Even with all the questionable games SEGA has released, it still doesn't bring them all down, and they can make some awesome Sonic games! Like Sonic Dimension, Robo Blast 2 and Utopia!
Sonic's like an abusive boyfriend. No matter how much he irritates you, tells you he'll change when he always goes back to how he was, and constantly tells you it'll be okay even though it probably won't be, you'll always come crawling back hoping he's changed.
But in all seriousness, it warms my heart to see over and over again that despite the scrutiny this community gets from people, people continue to do and support what they love. Makes me happy to be a Sonic Fan.
Utopia isn't even that good.

Its dumber than that, assuming its the one I'm thinking of. He didn't want people to cheat in his game, so it contains spyware that constantly monitors your computer. If it sees CheatEngine has been launched *at all* even if it was never used in relation to the game itself, it makes it so any attempt to launch the game instead takes you to a bizarre sonix.exe tier creepypasta screen where you get killed by ghosts. And the only way to put the game back into a playable state is to directly contact the creator and beg him to check the box on his computer (because the spyware means he has direct control of the executable on YOUR system) that lets you play again. And you basically had to prostrate yourself before him and apologize as if you'd kidnapped his son. And then if that flag ever gets tripped again he wouldn't ever accept another apology.

I really loved this video. Usually when people talk about Sonic fan games they always talk about the bad and strange ones (which yeah you did but you waited until then), but here you actually talked about some actual amazing ones that I actually want to play. It’s great to see people’s hard work actually being recognised.

@@lethauntic What I assume his point is, and I agree with it, is that, due to the fanbase's reputation for being total weirdos and the reputation of Sonic's games in general, a lot of youtubers just seek out fangames that are weird and/or bad, because that's what they believe will pull in the views. Unfortunately, that does a massive disservice to the massive amount of fan efforts that are actually good. It's not really fair for these creators to put in so much time, work, and passion into these games only for them to be left in the shadows of the likes of "Sonic.exe fangame #3476." So AntDude focusing on the good ones is not only a breath of fresh air, it's giving these games and creators the spotlight they deserve, one they don't get as often as they should.

Thank you for being one of the few people that remembers Tails’ Adventure. I loved the game as a kid and bought the Sonic Gems Collection on GameCube just for that game.

@@deanmoriarty6015 he also briefly mentioned how it's being updated, but in more depth than what he said there are some major changes happening to the game, so it would not be fair to talk about the current build if it changes substantially. And again, even all you mentioned is not that much, it's just an engine right now.
I hope we get more remakes of the Game Gear Games, imagine if someone made Sonic Blast an actual good game.
Man, I honestly think it’s a disservice how the rest of the Internet treats the Sonic fanbase. I generally don’t like calling fan bases toxic because I feel like just about every fan base has toxic people and calling a fan base toxic ignores all the cool people and this especially applies to Sonic. Sure this fan base as it’s toxicity but this fan base has some of the most passionate and talented people I’ve ever seen and it spawns so many amazing pieces of fan content. I’m also just really happy that Sega encourages fan games. I’m a Nintendo fan boy so it’s nice for a change to see fan projects not immediately be murdered the second they are revealed to the world. Great on Sega for actively encouraging its fan base the way it does
To be fair, SEGA probably knows we have a better grasp on Sonic than they do. We're basically the lifeblood of the franchise now.

I keep saying this but you should check out the Super Shadow Mod, it exists and makes the gameplay leagues better, I actually wanted this for so long after the tip on a forum didn't actually give me Super Shadow after beating the game and I believed it would be amazing then when I saw this, I was right because Super Shadow able to fly after using the Homing Attack able to go up, left, right, down, etc. then fire Chaos Arrows and the Chaos Spears, all of it felt breathtaking and I'll say again, Super Shadow being unlocked after beating the Final Story would have made Shadow The Hedgehog better as there's a reward for obtaining the Chaos Emeralds and go through all the effort that one may have not wanted to go through.
The Sonic Fanbase: The only fanbase where I'm both proud and ashamed of being part of.

Sonic dreams collection is actually pretty great with its meta game. Having to look at files to access the network adapter and stuff. And generally hidden stuff in the filming game.

Random fact that this video made me remember: The guy created Tattletail (if anyone still remembers that game) was a lead developer on Sonic Dreams Collection.
Time twisted is so good that Sega could literally cut the creators a check, make a few tiny changes and then sell it as a downloadable game for phones and PC. I think they could add less gory cut scenes, maybe a proper green & nature 1st zone, and tiny tweaks like making sure the big rings permanently start to respawn after beating the story mode with any ending. The game is about 99.8% done as for something they could actually market.
I spent an insane amount of time playing Robo Blast 2 when I was in middle school. I hadn’t seen anything like it at the time. I might need to give it another go in the future after watching this
SoggyHotDoggy if you haven't played it in a few years I really recommend doing it again. Its so much better now after 2.2
No yeah, 2.2 made massive strides. I've been on and off with the game for something like 15 years (the thing's existed almost as long as *I* have), and 2.2 is leaps and bounds ahead of what SRB2 used to be.

I was a pre-teen Sonic fan and spent so much time on fan games like these. I was a part of a now defunct fan comic and their subsequent forum community and this threw me RIGHT back to those times almost 14 years later.

Oh so THAT'S where Spark's design came from.
Considering it seems to be a Powerup, since it even gives Sonic Spark's Electric Shot Ability, I actually think it's the other way around and he retroactively added that AFTER Spark was a thing.
I do remember that both BtS and AtS eventually got remade into the Versions that Ant played for this Video (as evidenced by him mentioning the Music, originally both games just reused Tracks from other Games), and I'm pretty sure the Development of Spark was already well underway at that point.

@@agitpolat1061 Spark was a kickstarter game. While he may have had the idea kicking around in his head, AtS and Chrono Adventure were both released well before he even started the kickstarter, which would make it very unlikely he had any significant headway in developing Spark by that point. The dev is obviously a fan of both Sonic and Kirby, which Spark is a mesh of. It's possible that one power up in AtS was him experimenting with the idea of giving Sonic-like gameplay Kirby-like powers, but I highly doubt he had Spark solidified as a concept at that point, especially since that power-up just gives Sonic the beam hat and projectile from Kirby Super Star.

Always a treat whenever AntDude uploads a Sonic related video, it gave me absolute joy when Ultimate Flash Sonic popped up as the first one since the that was one of my first introductions to Sonic as a whole, good memories shared by all.

I wish Ant would have talked more about Dreams Collection. That game took the absolute worst and dumbest parts of the Sonic fandom, and made it into an amazingly weird collection of experiences.

Sonic fan games have come along way since "the games factory" days.
Another great fan game I discovered just recently and has had a lot of work put into is Sonic Smackdown. It is actually a Sonic fighting game with a similar style to Marvel vs Capcom 3. No tag system, but the characters all seem fun and unique to play.
