Technically both versions of Super Mario Bros 2 are ROM hacks. The Japanese version (later called "Lost Levels) was just a hacked version of the first game, but made harder. The one we got in the rest of the world was a ROM hack of Doki Doki Panic. Even though they are official, they are still basically ROM hacks.
A really great Super Mario Bros 3 ROM hack you didn't mention is Mario Adventure. New levels, enemies, powerups, music, a boss for every level, weather variations for every levels, powerup inventory and coins are now used to buy stuff (as there are infinite lives).
*Sees 100 Rooms of Enemies* Oh my... I feel kinda honored. Ah don't worry, 33 is a good record. Mine is, well, 100 with the hidden room beaten (obviously since I'm the creator of this rom hack. lol). ...There's also JUMP if you want to see level design that is super innovated. So great to see honest praise for Super Mario 3mix, that game is AMAZING! I actually am proud to even own a physical NES cartridge of it! Also, I believe in enjoyment and a fun challenge over unrelenting difficulty to feel accomplished in gaming. Kaizo is fun for people that have something to prove, but for the rest of us(like myself), ridiculous trolling and trapping players isn't even close to what creativity, imagination, immersion, and fun really means and is all about. "Get gud" to me means "Get a life"/"Get gud at experiencing new experiences instead of focusing on the creation of frustration catered to small groups of people". But that's just me. This is an awsome video and love the channel's amazing content! Can't wait for the next one!!!

i just had a revelation: the rohrleitung gate hack is a parody of the anime Steins;Gate, and i remember watching this video along with the other rom hack videos years ago when i had zero clue what Steins;Gate was, but the music, and the text on the title screen: “peach’s pocket watch has stopped” is very clearly references. idk just felt like i should share this, because Steins;Gate is fucking phenomenal, and i’ve watched these rom hack videos so many times when i was younger, and i just didn’t expect to see that here, even though i’ve already watched this many times before

I played this one mario game except there were no question mark blocks and mario was only wearing red shoes and had spiky blue fur. Also the main antagonist wasn’t even bowser. It was some mustache dude flying some weird futuristic half ball. Also mario seemed faster than usual.
