This is so amazing thing. Beautiful sound, practically no smoke even under load, and all that comming from an old engine I even wouldn't expect to be turbocharged. The engine room is naturally with patine on devices, and this all looks so authentic. :-)
The old low rpm diesels were such sweet work horses. Lay into the harness until their knees are almost touching the ground and than pull their way out of it.
I spent many hours in after steering on our ship with the sound of the steering gear. Talk about heavy eye lids. I used to go down there and sleep on the floor before my watch.
I was on a ammunition ship in the Navy. This ship had a two huge hydrolic pumps that control the steering. The steady him made it difficult to stay awake.
True. They were made before spare parts contracts, on-site service providers, aftermarket accounts, asset management, planned obsolescence and all that economy "streamlined", profit driven bullshit came along.
That is such a great sound, I almost bought a steel hulled 1920's trawler with a June-Munktell but the guy wanted way too much, I ended up with a 63' all aluminum Crabber - long-liner with twin MAN V8's with only 2900 hours on them. I got the boat at a bank auction for 298k and one engine alone cost about that installed. I have put about 500k into her and have been living aboard for 3 years now, I mainly bounce from guest docks/moorings to keep from paying 25$ a foot for a permanent slip in San Pedro (La Harbor) I spend most of the time during the tourist season doing the romantic sunset and full moon cruises in the Bahamas or Jamaica for the sandal's crowd. I just picked up a couple of electric foil boards, But a day on my boat, wave runners, and foil boards 3 super exotic meals cooked by my wife and a private cove until 9pm is1000 a day
UFO at 3:23 but I'm here to say thanks! Awesome diesel motor on a great old variable prop setup. Low rev industrial engines have such a cool repetitive beat.
Beautiful old engine! I'll pass on the fishing when there is ice floating on the water though. I am quite content in the desert, with the heat, and cactus!
+aries Donaldsson Hello! That plastic tubes on the top is for holding luboil for the rockers. Then they don´t need to go with an oil can to put lubrication oil at the rockers..
FROM THE OUTSIDE SOUNDS JUST LIKE AN ALCO 539 6 CYLINDER NON TURBO! WHEN THE BOAT WAS MOVING BACK AND FORTH IT WAS SOUNDING LIKE IT WAS MANUVERING FREIGHT CARS ON A TRACK! THE TURBOCHARGER ON THIS ENGINE DOEN NOT MAKE A WHISTLING AND CHIRPING NOTE AS A ALCO 539 WITH TURBO MAKES! ENJOYED, THANKS FOR THE VID!!
the engine has a of center crankshaft so its balanced at speed air start to make it start easy a buitifull engine which was made to run night and day without stopping not environment friendly but none of them was?
Is it still operational? The engine sounds great! Out of curiosity, how many hours has the engine been running, and has it ever been repaired due to some serious damage?
Hello :) This boat has a controllable pitch propeller. The engine run in the same direction. The rudder is used together with the propeller to manoeuvre the boat :)
+James Bradley Its not unusual at all, just not common nowadays due to the advent of reliable marine gearboxes. Prior to the 1960's just about all of the Scandanivian fishing boats used direct coupled engines with variable pitch propellers.
gizmo98632 Yes it is turbo charged, you can just see the turbo inlet screen in one of the engine room scenes. An engine like this could have 6 litres or more displacement each cylinder, so low rpm's are not a problem, still lots of hot exhaust to blow that turbo around.
Probably diesel. Engines last practically forever, the higher compression, requires heavier parts. Heavier parts, act like a heavy flywheel, getting lower rpm's than gas. Plus diesel is pretty stable in long term storage, in a jamb can even run biodiesel blends with used oils ect
At 1000rpm, are you kidding?.😜. You wouldn't want to be standing next to it, that's for sure.. You'd be safer swimming for land, because the boat would be sinking with a conrod thrown through hull... Lol.
This is so amazing thing. Beautiful sound, practically no smoke even under load, and all that comming from an old engine I even wouldn't expect to be turbocharged. The engine room is naturally with patine on devices, and this all looks so authentic. :-)
What a beautiful sounding engine. You can hear each cylinder firing and the air compressor too. Thanks for the video.
+Dallas Dorrington My Guess? They are tied to rockers for a visual if the rocker or push rod breaks.
What a beautiful note that engine produces. Comforting. Reassuring.
Made with pride. We seldom see this kind of workmanship anymore.
Sounds like a symphony orchestra firing on all cylinders!!!! Wonderful
what a beautiful piece. meant for only one thing. WORK!
Wonderful how all those old engines had their own unique song!
Gotta love that Big old iron. And still going strong today. Sweet!!
The old low rpm diesels were such sweet work horses. Lay into the harness until their knees are almost touching the ground and than pull their way out of it.
Forøvrig HERLIG å høre en god gammel tungbygd diesel igjen! :O)
sounds like an old vølund we had in a boat i was working in ;) lovely sound ;)
What a lovely sounding power unit.
I would love to be in a comfy chair in that engine room snoozing to that rythm.
And feeling warm, while everyone on deck is freezing.
I spent many hours in after steering on our ship with the sound of the steering gear. Talk about heavy eye lids. I used to go down there and sleep on the floor before my watch.
@@davidredfearn664 - Sounds nice, what type of ship were you on (which engine 🤪)

@@haraldpettersen3649 None unfortunately. I just love the steady beat of low revving marine diesels.....👍🏼👍🏼
A Very Interesting Engine & A Job well Done Keeping the Engine room Clean. Thank You ! For making this video .Stay Safe out there.
Great jobSealover17!I so love this good old boat stuff!Great boat and engine! Thanks for these postings!
Thanks :)
Amazing engine and a nice old trawler, the most amazing is the engine when it idles, that's real Amazing. Svenskar kan utan tvekan bygga bra motorer.
Engines like this will run for a hundred years. GlennFHoward

Thank you for posting. Very cool
That was great video I was surprised that it had a turbocharger on it, I like the throttle control mechanism
Now that right there is some beautiful music.
Oh, man! What sound it was!
Very nice video. Please educate me on the idle and full rpm. Thank you

Ufo at 3:20 sorry
Very unusual engine, I like Gardner’s and kelvins
I bet the engine room has that great old greasy smell.
I suppose that vertical shaft is the control from the wheelhouse.
Beautiful old engine! I'll pass on the fishing when there is ice floating on the water though. I am quite content in the desert, with the heat, and cactus!
Or a big gale of wind from the North or East.
THAT IS A SYMPHONY old engines are the best
Yes! It´s a nice sounding beauty :D :)
My grandfather had a sweedish fishingboat with 6 stempel june munktell.
I see 34 people dislike this video. They need help, poor people!
They need to put little hands on those rocker arm things sticking up out of the valve covers to make it look like they are waving back and forth.
Or wobbly eyes.
Nice hull shape... no wake !
It does indeed have a nice sound.
The engine has a beautiful mesmirizing rhythm. What's the purpose for the little dancing lolks like glass tubes on top?

Very nice engine! I love the sound of the large diesels.
Fantastisk lyd! Men vær forsigtig med asbesten 🙂
She’s beautiful.
Love the drive by wire throttle system
A clear case of mechanical disadvantage....
What was the purpose of the back and forth between 1:05 and 3:00. Was that just for our enjoyment?
Is it still operational?
The engine sounds great!
Out of curiosity, how many hours has the engine been running, and has it ever been repaired due to some serious damage?
Thank you! Great Vid! ~S
Thanks :)
Pure music!
Any idea what displacement in that old 6-cylinder?
My first car sounded like that, exactly !!
Your first steam roller? :P
T Faber mine too! you must be old?
Beautiful sound! Most unusual for a diesel engine. Too bad not all diesels sound like this!
Seems like it left less of a wake than a rowboat. Weird.
Teardrop shape has perfect aerodynamics ‼️
Hydrodynamics;)
Nice!!!!
Love it
Hi Sealover17, nice video! How is the boat manoeuvring? Is the engine being run in different directions and the rudder angle changed each time?
Hello :) This boat has a controllable pitch propeller. The engine run in the same direction. The rudder is used together with the propeller to manoeuvre the boat :)
Ah! I see! That sounds unusual!
Thank you for telling me.
By the way, the engine looks like a big deep-fat fryer in a fish and chip shop! lol

when was this boat built? any more photos of her?
Hej jag undrar om det år månge av dom JM båtmotor kvar i dag??
Nej du har rätt, det är inte varje dag men hör en JM nu för tiden :)
She zips right on by and that engine don't sound like its trying hard at all.
Hönö klåva hamnen 👍
Worlds most dangerous job. Just to put fish on the table. Farmers have it so easy.
Nice sound. Muffled? Or straight from cylinder?
Muffed

Probably diesel. Engines last practically forever, the higher compression, requires heavier parts. Heavier parts, act like a heavy flywheel, getting lower rpm's than gas. Plus diesel is pretty stable in long term storage, in a jamb can even run biodiesel blends with used oils ect

I believe the max rpm is just above 400. These engines were made to turn very slowly.
At 1000rpm, are you kidding?.😜. You wouldn't want to be standing next to it, that's for sure.. You'd be safer swimming for land, because the boat would be sinking with a conrod thrown through hull... Lol.
