You can try cracking 52 knots on your plywood wonder (assuming the engines were recently refitted and retuned) with human-aimed and stabilised weapons and take a run at an aluminium-hulled boat with digital fire-control systems and automatic gun stabilisation if you want. I wouldn't.

Also, the non-radar equipped PTs were going up against non-radar equipped Destroyers in the dark. Good luck pitting your non-radar equipped PT against a modern one with radar and a fire-control computer in charge of a 25mm Bushmaster autocannon on a stabilised mount. There's a reason navies don't operate from open bridges anymore.

I was disappointed that the video was about modern boats, I was hoping for WW2 stuff. Did you know that Elco designers visited England in 1939 to see what boats the British were producing. They ended up buying PV70, a 70 foot MTB, from the British Power Boat Company. This boat was designed by power boat racer Hubert Scott-Paine. It was renamed PT-9 and served as the prototype for all the early Elco PT boats. During testing some deficiencies were discovered and modifications and improvements were made before it went into production as the 77 foot Elco. My favourite is the British Fairmile D MGB. Slower, only about 30 knots, but bigger 115 ft, and much more heavily armed. 2 x 6 pounder (57mm, 2.2 inch) autoloading power turrets, 55 rounds per minute, 4 x 20 mm Oerlikons, 2 x .303 Vickers and 4 depth charges. The MTB version had fewer guns but could carry either 4 x 18 inch or 2 x 21 inch torpedoes.

We need more of these! How many can we make instead of a carrier? Carriers are big targets.
That last one, which came in at no. 1, looked alot like the World War II 77-ft Elco PT boats, PT'S 20-68. I'm a PT boat fanatic.

I was disappointed that the video was about modern boats, I was hoping for WW2 stuff. Did you know that Elco designers visited England in 1939 to see what boats the British were producing. They ended up buying PV70, a 70 foot MTB, from the British Power Boat Company. This boat was designed by power boat racer Hubert Scott-Paine. It was renamed PT-9 and served as the prototype for all the early Elco PT boats. During testing some deficiencies were discovered and modifications and improvements were made before it went into production as the 77 foot Elco.
My favourite is the British Fairmile D MGB. Slower, only about 30 knots, but bigger 115 ft, and much more heavily armed. 2 x 6 pounder (57mm, 2.2 inch) autoloading power turrets, 55 rounds per minute, 4 x 20 mm Oerlikons, 2 x .303 Vickers and 4 depth charges. The MTB version had fewer guns but could carry either 4 x 18 inch or 2 x 21 inch torpedoes.
