That was very scary. I had a similar experience my first Uber ride a few years ago, first when the driver pulled up, they got out of the car to help me because I am on crutches. He asked me if I wanted to sit in the front seat, of course I said no (I'm not crazy) and then as he was driving, I felt he missed a turn somewhere and when I said something, he was like, "I've never had a problem before you." I was like , "sorry, i just want to get where I was going." I always keep my crutches with me even when the driver asks if I wanted them in the trunk, which I say no.
