The Providence of Quebec is so beautiful. I went there and Montreal when I was little. When I think of it, it's the birthplace and home of Celine Dion!!!!!

The very first time I actually went to the Met was in 2007. It was for a concert actually..... The Broadway star Kristin Chenoweth did a one night only solo concert there (so versatile..... her humor, her presence, and the styles she sings from Musical Theater, Opera, and Country in one show). Those feelings of going to the Met was soooooo magical. You feel all the feels. Looking around. The sights. The moment those chandeliers rise when the show starts is so epic.

Sheesh…. My heart was pounding the entire time.

I am now 74 and fondly remember my first opera, Tosca, at the New York City Opera in 1966. My 2nd was the ill-fated Antony and Cleopatra at the then new Met. I was not ready for it and it had little to offer, but that did not deter me from becoming a passionate opera devotée. Opera has enriched my life over the years and has expanded and enhanced my appreciation for classical music. Thank you for this video! I hope it will encourage young people to give it a try.

It is quite an amazing and breath-taking place. You said there was only one cafe in Shelter Cove. At that time, I believe Surf Point Cafe hadn't opened yet. It is now - closer to the light house. That was very scary. I had a similar experience my first Uber ride a few years ago, first when the driver pulled up, they got out of the car to help me because I am on crutches. He asked me if I wanted to sit in the front seat, of course I said no (I'm not crazy) and then as he was driving, I felt he missed a turn somewhere and when I said something, he was like, "I've never had a problem before you." I was like , "sorry, i just want to get where I was going." I always keep my crutches with me even when the driver asks if I wanted them in the trunk, which I say no.

My first live Opera was Cavalleria Rusticana/Pagliacci fifteen years ago at the Met. And I still revel in the memory!

I enjoyed this a lot! I have two minor objections though: 1. You didn't address a fourth big objection that non-opera-lovers have to opera: that it's screamy😂 2. When you recommend that people choose an opera based on their "identification" with the plot, I would say that identification with the musical style and the melodies themselves should probably take precedence. Just my two cents. But I enjoyed a lot. Thanks for the video!

My girlfriend and I saw two Opera there the barber of Seville and madam butterfly (we wanted to see that one because we did the humming chorus in our college choir.)

La Traviata and Carmen are definitely the best to start with if you want to introduce yourself to opera music. Mozart’s operas are too long and Puccini’s ones are too good for a first experience !!!
