"California Dreamin'" is a classic song by The Mamas & the Papas, an American folk rock band formed in the 1960s. The song was written by John Phillips and Michelle Phillips and was released in 1965 as a single. It became one of their most popular and enduring hits.
The lyrics of "California Dreamin'" reflect a longing for the warmth and sunshine of California during a cold winter day. The song captures the essence of the mid-1960s counterculture and is often associated with the California sound and the folk rock movement.
The Mamas & the Papas' harmonious vocals and the timeless melody contributed to the song's success, and it has since been covered by numerous artists. "California Dreamin'" remains a classic representation of the 1960s musical era and is often included in various compilations of the greatest songs from that period. Развлечения

That was Jimi Hendrix in the audience. Joplin too.
Wow
Thank you guys for getting to this classic.............it is probably THE song of the 60's and Flower Power.. it's an anthem ! Peace and Love .
As a "flower power" youngster of the time, that is not the song of the 60s.
They sang in 4 part, counterpoint harmony which is rarely seen anymore!
These are scenes of them at The Monterey Pop Festival - the first ever rock festival. They were co- organizers. And Jimi was there too as well as many other icons. ❤
Glad you all liked it! Just surprised that you've never heard it. I appreciate that you do a little research too, to learn about the group and the context.
And at the Monterey Pop Festival when Janis Joplin sang ball and chain Big Mama Cass was in the audience and you could see her going wow wow wow😊😊
Don't forget McKenzie Phillips. She was on "One Day At a Time" TV show.
She was the child of John and his first wife, she once accused her dad of rape ….but then it came out they had a consensual incestuous relationship.
No Autotune ! John Phillips (guy in the hat)was a master at organizing harmony - but had magnificient voices to work with
Mama Cass, the big lady, sang "Make Your Own Kind of Music" and tragically died young.
1966...an incredible year for music, this song rose to the top and was the #1 of the year.
Looks like Jimmy Hendrix in the audience? This version though is the studio over the Live from Monterey performance it seems as there is the real live one also.
peace, love and happiness baby!!! awesome tune great groove
Such a LEGEND group ..... huge fan of "Mama" Cass Elliot ..... RIP, you are missed. This song ...... BECAME a staple for several groups, including today's musicians who remixed and took this to a new modern level. The Mamas and the Papas are TRUE to me, wish more of the music in the current day had this feel ...... I'm a boy from the BEACH.
This song brings back so many great memories from my youth. Thanks for sharing this with us.. great reaction guys
one of the most popular american songs of all time - fratured in dozens of movies and commercials. Hard to believe anyone living in USA has never heard this but there you go.
The grumpy guy at the bottom liked it gold😅
They also produced McKenzie Philips who used to play alongside Valeri Bertinelli as the older daughter on the 1970's-80's sitcom "One Day At A Time".
No she was from John's first marriage
Yes, the guy in the fur hat wanted to adapt folk to the beats of the 60s!!
I really enjoy your music reactions. I don’t recall you three reacting to any Allman Brothers Band songs. I highly recommend you react to their song Whipping Post (must be the studio version). I think you will really enjoy it. There’s a really cool video on RUclips where the words of the song are burnt into wood. That’s the video of this song I would react to.
Or Allman Bros “Need Your Love So Bad” - so bluesy.
all time classic! ♥ Great fall/winter song
Perfect harmony makes me remember best of days
Great reaction. Growing up in the SF Bay Area in the 60’s and 70’s, this song brings back SO many memories. It was on the radio a lot and it reminds me of the crisp fall days in the bay. Thanks guys!
Corey, Fenom and Olli, you guys said you wanted to go down the *Electric Light Orchestra (ELO)* rabbit hole, but it's been 7 weeks since you reacted to, *"Livin' Thing",* and you've not returned to the band. So here's another song from that same awesome concert at Wembley in London from 2017. It's at nighttime, so it'll give you a different look - Jeff Lynne is known for his great light/laser shows! The song, which in 1976 hit #7 in the US, #8 in the UK, and #1 in Canada, is called, *"Telephone Line".* You fellas will love it! Here it is: ruclips.net/video/XKElk9zTB04/видео.html
One of my favorite songs!
@@joelliebler5690 Indeed. One of their very best!
Grew up with their music they were huge and always in the top 40 records. They had 6 Hits in the top ten like this great tune from 1965.
I love this song...has a magic to it.
Legendary tune and vocals with the also legendary loosely named studio musicians, The Wrecking Crew!
The Monterey Pop Festival in San Fransisco and the Summer Of Love 1967.
It was the last year to feel free ,dance, smoke pot (if u didn't get busted) and enjoy some of the "Best Music". of the time.
Just don't get a bad acid trip
Ah my fav Mama’s & Papas song! Thanks….❤
There was a lot of drama taking place in this group. John (tall guy in furry hat) was married to Michelle Phillips (blonde). Cass Elliot was in love with Denny Dougherty (soloist in this song) but it was unrequited. Denny and Michelle had an affair. John had a daughter, McKenzie Phillips, from his previous marriage. John dumped his first wife to marry Michelle. There are disturbing tales of an incestuous relationship between John and his daughter McKenzie as well as massive drug use. Despite all this they burned brightly and made a lot of great music in a short time.
I never saw this video version, so I was so psyched to see Jimi Hendrix in the audience! I've only seen the video of their performance of this song on "The Ed Sullivan Show."
That left/right vocal accompaniment used to be one of the ways record companies showed off stereo separation. On headphones it gives you the impression of sitting center stage.
Good one!
Wonderful song - classic 60s sound. Great music video too before music videos became big.
One of my childhood favorites!
John Phillips had three daughters from different marriages/relationships: the eldest one, Mackenzie Phillips, is an actress. Chynna Phillips, John & Michelle's daughter, was a singer of Wilson Phillips, a trio (the other two girls are Bruce Wilson's daughters, from The Beach Boys). The youngest one, Bijoux Phillips, is an actress and until last september was married with the actor Danny Masterson from The '70 show.
Mama Cassie released a version of "Dream a little dream of me". What a wonderful voice ❤
Brian Wilson
Now that you've heard the original version of this classic song, PLEASE check out the Lee Moses (RIP)cover of it. He was a R&B artist back in the early 70s from Atlanta. He slows it down and puts his heart and soul into the vocals. Even if you don't react to it, give it a listen. Same for your viewers. Y'all will really enjoy it.
John Phillips was one of the most polarizing artists ever imo and that's saying something.
He was a terrible father as well. McKenzie Phillips, his daughter had so many insures. Her bio is crazy. The stories.
@@susanmurray7654 He was but the abuse story I'm kind of wondering about. His ex wife and Mackenzie's mom don't believe he did it.
She tells Bijou the whole story, which Bijou said made her distrustful of him so she's going to be watching him closely and got to work asking people who was around if he ever acted funny but eventually SHE say's he was a lot of things but she doesn't buy the story. But Chynna does believe it so I dunno.
Best earworm ever...
Monterey Pop festival 1967, Jimi Hendrix was there
Check out Queen Latifah's soulful cover of this classic hit! 🔥
Love this song
John and Michelle Phillips other daughter Mackenzie Phillips played the older sister on ‘One Day At a Time’. According to her memoir some very dark stuff happened between her and her father.
Mackenzie Phillips is John's daughter from a previous marriage.
Great tune. Thanks for reacting to it.
I love you guys!❤
Sorry but especially Corey Roy at his age, how could you not have even heard of the Mamas and the Papas much not know any of their songs? REALLY??....Those who love all forms of music from every genre and any time period should know one of the most influential successful popular groups of the 60s or any time, the mamas and the papas..
Cass Elliott was a wonderful singer who had to tone down her powerful voice to “fit in with the group and please John Williams. Check out some of her solo songs.
Some of the people in the crowd look as high as a kite! 😂😂😂😂😂
There was a lot of romanticizing about California in the '60s. A "#1" example. : )
Another great video and reaction guys though I find it amazing that you aren't familiar with this group or this song. You should definitely check out more of their music plus some of Cass Elliot's solo stuff. Great songs include Creeque Alley which is an autobiographical song written by the Phillips, or Monday Monday, I saw her again, Go where you wanna go, Words of love or one of my favorites Dream a little dream of me.
great tune, love bobby womack's soulful rendition also
I've only met two of the three Wilson-Phillips girls - Carney and Wendy. China wasn't there that day. But it was still great to meet them. Got to hang out with Carney quite a few times. Funny lady... and does a great Cartman from South Park!
This song makes me happy, and I smile each time I hear it!
Beach Boys did a really good cover of this one in the 80's.
Quintessential 60's / California vibe
The soloist was Papa Denny Doherty, the only Canadian in the group. They are all gone now except for Michelle Phillips.
Guys, check out them singing I Call Your Name at the Monterey Pop Festival.
Loved it! Try California Girls by the Beach Boys, Waiting on a Friend, Rolling Stones and Simple Twist of Fate by Bob Dylan
They were regulars on the "Hollywood Palace".
I had such a crush on the girl playing the tambourine ❤!
Such a Gr8 Song
I'm in tears
As a music producer, this song influenced a lot of my chords and harmonies outside of Gospel & R&B..i love it. Thanks guys
You should listen to it accapello. Just their voices are so beautiful!
Members of The Mamas & The Papas and members of The Beach Boys had daughters that made the group Wilson Phillips who had the hit Hold On
Watch Wild Thing by Jimi Hendrix live at Monterey Pop Music festival in 1967. It is where the legend of Jimi Hendrix was born.
Classic! My fav M&P song!❤ Mama Cass had a gorgeous voice...try out Monday Monday and Dream A Little Dream of Me...must do's!❤
Cass Elliot, the brunette, had an amazing voice!
Wilson Phillips = Carnie & Wendy Wilson (sisters) and Chynna Phillips
Here in Buffalo NY i wish i woulda stayed in California when i was in the navy 30 years ago. Im sick of cold and snow.
I get a much better Steffy from what's a California mamas? And the Papa song stand by a viagra. I gotta pick fountain right now from western to this
The bass player carries this song.
That Monterrey Music Festival is iconic. The Who flipped a coin to decide who would go on last. Pete Townshend said there was no way they were going on after Hendrix. The Who was technically the headliner that night but chose to go on before Hendrix. That is the infamous scene of Hendrix lighting his guitar in fire on stage. Mama Cass said to Pete that Hendrix was stealing their show.
Pete said no, he is doing our show.
Short and sweet.
im so high right now, saul good man
60's music
Hippy vibes is accurate for sure.
I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY DIDN'T SPOT JIMMIE HENDRICKS AND JANIS JOPLIN!!! THEY WERE THERE ...CALIFORNIA DREAMING
Great song throughout the ages. Great group. Have you guys heard Jimi Hendrix yet?? I’m new to your channel and haven’t see a reaction to Jimi yet. If not, you must EXPERIENCE him! You guys are dope! ✌🏼
Awesome reaction/ can you please react to Alvin Lee/ the bluest blues.
It is a true story - the church was St Patrick NYC
If you reacted to Janis Joplin live at Monterey Pop Festival Mama Cass was in the audience and they kept focusing on her watching the concert and that was Jimi Hendrix in this audience this was actually The Mamas and Papas at the Monterey pop Festival
Mama Cass had an incredible voice. I think she had some solo work as well as with the M&P. Check her out.
The view of Jimi Hendrix was at the Monterey Pop Festival and The Mamas & the Papas were there, as well as The Who and Janis Joplin among others, and you really should listen to Janis Joplin from the Monterey Pop Festival
For more 60s/70s music- Leaving on a Jet Plane Peter Paul & Mary, Wichita Lineman by Glen Campbell and Mr Bojangles Sammy Davis Jr
In the same vain of reminiscing about the difference between California & New York City is the Mama’s & the Pappas song 12:30
This came out the same year as the Beach Boys' "California Girls". Apparently Brian Wilson was inspired by LSD. Who knows if it was different with them?
Check out their covers of Dedicated to the one I love, and also their original Creek Alley
Did you guys notice JIMI HENDRIX IN AUDIENCE
Not sure if you know. Eddie Hazel covered this on his 1st album.
☮️💙💙💙🔥🔥😎remembering!
Jimi Hendrix there! marker 3:24 !!
Did you see Jimmy Hendrix sitting in the crowd?
❤❤
John Phillips wrote a lot of songs that you have probably heard
Very much a hippie vibe.
Flower power
To respond to your bros comment, he didn't know Wilson Phillips, react to their music, please!
sounds good ? No ... sounds Fantastic !
Bang on reaction, gentlemen. Would love to hear your thoughts on a song called Roundabout by Yes off the Fragile album. Its funkadilic prog tune. 🙏🎶
The other lady was Mama Cass
Not familiar with THAT song? Amazing. 🤔
